Our first opening week has been nothing…
Our first opening week has been nothing but a complete shambles, and a huge part of that is down to SumUp.
We invested a significant amount of money in the POS Pro system with two printers because we wanted a reliable setup for our new business. Instead, we’ve experienced constant faults from day one. Our till system stopped working just two weeks after installation, the printers have repeatedly failed, and we’ve spent more time trying to fix the system than actually serving our customers.
This has had a huge impact on our business during the most important week we will ever have. Instead of focusing on giving our customers the best experience, we’ve been dealing with technical issues, lost time, frustration, and disruption caused by a system that simply hasn’t done what it was sold to do.
The fact that SumUp is now replacing the entire system says it all. While we appreciate that they’re sending a replacement, this should never have been necessary so soon after installation.
For a system that costs this much, the reliability has been unacceptable. I would strongly urge anyone considering SumUp for their business to think very carefully before investing. Our experience has been incredibly disappointing, and we certainly didn’t expect our opening week to be remembered for all the problems with our till system.

Banned a Palestinian rights group from their services, poor customer service
I represent a branch of a regional Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign organisation that routinely raises funds at markets and events. We purchased an all-in-one card reader, and used it for 1 day, then found ourselves locked out from our funds, and after battling with the slow and unhelpful customer services, they eventually admitted they were refusing to service our organisation. We later found that other branches of our organisation and similar solidarity branches in the rest of the UK and Ireland were also banned from using SumUp's services. I only saw movement on the return of our funds after invoking our legal rights after waiting more than a week.
