It has been very disappointing from the start of receiving the equipment to now.

There software is so behind other card readers and is no where near as good as dojo. Wish we never signed up and moved across to them.

They do try but the software just isn’t in place.. twice we have had our card readers go down and lost a lot of money due to there software. No phone call to apologies after. We never once has this with dojo. I have been really disappointed and I would advise people to not join.

Do not trust

Spent a while going through various options over a number of phone calls. Agreed and signed a contract which I still have proof of, only to be told it doesn’t exist. Now they are not responding back to me. Took my business to EPOS Now who are amazing.

BE VERY CAREFUL BEFORE SIGNING WITH FLATPAY

My experience with Flatpay has been extremely disappointing.

The salesperson clearly told me that I could cancel at any time and gave me the impression that I was NOT entering into a long-term contract. That was an important reason why I agreed to take the terminal.

When I later asked to cancel, I was shocked to be told that I was tied into a 36-MONTH CONTRACT.

In my view, this is a very misleading and sly way to sell a service. If a 36-month commitment had been clearly explained to me by the salesperson, I simply would not have signed up.

A business owner should not have to discover the most important condition of an agreement only when they try to leave.

My advice to other business owners: DO NOT rely on the salesperson’s verbal promises. Ask them specifically, “Am I tied in for 36 months?” and get the answer IN WRITING before signing anything. Read every page and every term yourself.

Extremely disappointing experience with Flatpay

My experience with Flatpay so far has been extremely disappointing — and I haven't even started using their service yet.

I bought the existing Flatpay hardware from the previous owner of a pizzeria and contacted Flatpay to arrange the takeover. I expected this to be a straightforward process.

It has now been 3 weeks, and I have still not received any proper follow-up from the sales or onboarding team. The sales representative's telephone number is not working, and despite contacting customer support several times, I keep being told that someone will contact me and resolve the issue.

Nothing happens.

I have already invested time, money and resources into preparing the business, and I simply need Flatpay to complete the takeover and provide the service I am trying to sign up for.

What concerns me most is that this is happening before I have even become an active customer. If communication and support are this poor when they are trying to onboard a new customer, it raises a serious question about what kind of support I can expect after I start using their payment system.

This is a huge waste of everyone's time — mine, the sales team's and the company's resources. A customer is ready to start, the hardware is already there, and yet nobody seems to take ownership of the case.

A company handling payments for businesses should be reliable, responsive and professional. Three weeks without meaningful follow-up is simply not acceptable.

At this point, Flatpay needs to demonstrate that they can actually provide the level of service and support I would expect from a payment provider.

Very disappointing first impression.

Terrible follow up on a warm sales enquiry - awful !! This should be easy ….

Contacted Flat Pay through their website.
Received call from Sales representative- after a couple of follow up calls - sent all documentation - bank statements , financial information , signed a contract.
Was told I would receive a call from the onboarding team and would shortly receive a card reader.
All seemed fine , then nothing for 2 weeks.
I follow up once with customer service. Was told I’d receive a call back from my sales representative - nothing.
Followed up again 1 week later - nothing.
Followed up again after 3 days - still nothing.

What a terrible waste of resources for a company to allow warm inbound sales leads to just be wasted - what a waste of everyone’s time , energy and resources.

Doesn’t leave me with a great impression of flat pay for my business.

READ THE CONTRACT CAREFULLY BEFORE SIGNING WITH FLATPAY

Anyone considering Flatpay should read the full UK terms and conditions carefully before signing. Don’t make a decision based solely on the headline transaction rate or a sales conversation. The written agreement is what ultimately matters.

There are several provisions I believe prospective merchants should pay particular attention to.

36-month non-termination period

Flatpay’s UK terms contain a 36-month non-termination period.

Three years can be a significant commitment for a small business. Circumstances can change considerably during that time, so merchants should read the termination provisions carefully and understand exactly when and how the agreement can be ended before signing.

Minimum turnover provisions

The terms contain minimum-turnover provisions.

They state a minimum monthly turnover of £1,100 including VAT for each payment solution and provide for a £39 + VAT charge where the relevant payment solution does not reach that level in a month.

Businesses considering multiple payment solutions should read this provision particularly carefully and calculate how it could apply to their circumstances.

Card-processing requirement

The terms also contain provisions concerning the processing of card transactions through Flatpay’s equipment.

The agreement describes failure to process all card transactions arising from the merchant’s day-to-day business through Flatpay equipment as a material breach.

Anyone intending to use Flatpay alongside another payment provider should therefore read this provision carefully and obtain written clarification about their intended arrangement before signing.

Potential financial consequences of certain breaches

The agreement contains provisions under which certain breaches can potentially result in a charge of £39 + VAT per payment solution for each remaining month of the 36-month non-termination period.

For illustration only, if the relevant contractual provision applied with 30 months remaining, £39 × 30 would equal £1,170 + VAT per payment solution.

Merchants should read the relevant provisions themselves to understand when such charges may apply.

Changes to the agreement

The agreement contains provisions dealing with changes to contractual terms and electronic notification.

Merchants should read these provisions carefully, including the circumstances in which changes may be made, the notice provisions and any rights available to them in response.

Acquirer arrangements

The agreement also contains provisions concerning Flatpay’s designated acquirer and Flatpay’s authority in connection with the merchant entering an agreement with that acquirer.

Businesses should understand these provisions and the parties involved before agreeing to them.

Limitations of liability

I would also recommend reading the liability section carefully.

The agreement contains limitations and exclusions concerning Flatpay’s liability, including provisions relating to the availability of equipment, gateways or software and certain categories of business loss.

Businesses should consider whether those provisions and the allocation of risk are appropriate for their circumstances.

Don’t rely solely on verbal representations

There are publicly available reviews in which individual reviewers have raised concerns about aspects of their experience with the sales process, cancellation rights or contractual commitment. Those are the experiences and allegations of those individual reviewers, and prospective customers can read them and form their own conclusions.

The important point is simple: if something materially affects your decision to sign, make sure you understand what the written agreement actually says.

If you are told:

“You can cancel anytime.”

“There’s no tie-in.”

“There aren’t any other charges.”

“You can continue using another provider.”

—or anything else important to your decision—

ask for it in writing and compare it with the agreement before signing

Flatpay publicly promotes straightforward and transparent pricing. In my opinion, prospective merchants should compare the marketing and any sales representations they receive with the written terms and decide for themselves whether the overall agreement is suitable for their business.

Don’t feel that you have to sign before you’ve properly considered the agreement.

Read it. Ask questions. Obtain important representations in writing. Calculate how the agreement could affect your business under different circumstances.

The headline transaction rate is only one part of the arrangement.

The written contract is what matters. Read it carefully before signing.
