Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 54 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers found the bus service consistently unreliable, with buses frequently running late or failing to arrive as scheduled, causing significant delays. People often encountered poor conditions on board, describing buses as dirty, smelly, and uncomfortable. Furthermore, consumers reported a lack of effective customer service, struggling to get assistance or refunds for disrupted journeys. However, some customers noted positive interactions with drivers, describing them as professional, helpful, and friendly, even during delays. Conversely, a small portion of people felt that staff members could be rude or unhelpful, particularly when dealing with inquiries, with some drivers even taking unscheduled breaks that caused further delays.

We used expressway to go from Dublin…

We used expressway to go from Dublin airport > Carrick on Shannon (return). Both times the bus was over an hour late. No live tracker and the office can’t tell you anything, only “well it’s not showing as cancelled”… useless.

The return bus back to the airport also wasn’t even branded as expressway, it was a regular white coach with no expressway logo or “23” on the outside of the bus. It was by chance that we just decided to ask the driver if they were going to Dublin Airport because the expressway hadn’t turned up. It’s like fawlty towers. Avoid.

Terrible service

Terrible service. Public transport in Ireland only seems to get worse, buses constantly late, ignorant drivers, no toilets on 4 hour journey, chargers don’t work, costs a bomb and stinky. I will avoid these buses at all costs going forward I’d rather rent cars than waste any more money on bus eireann and expressway.

NO WORKING CHARGERS

Bus was on time for once but I have yet to get on an expressway bus and have the charges actually work, have a usb cable and a power plug, no one else on the bus so I actually got to try every single one of the plugs and not a single one would work, coming back from Germany to this, absolute joke.

To anyone visiting from another…

To anyone visiting from another country....never ever, never ever, book a ticket from Expressway in advance. They will no show and completely you when you want a refund. I cannot express this enough. Find another bus company. They left me stranded late Sunday night at Shannon airport and I cannot get a refund. A complete joke and do not give them ANY money.

Appalling and embarrassing

Appalling and embarrassing, we had visitors over from Hungary and wanted to get the Cavan bus to Dublin (109X) near Virginia, the 10:30 bus was cancelled, waited for the next bus which only had 3 seats left and 7 people waiting (driver was very apologetic) eventually got a bus at 12:30.
Pathetic service, pathetic company, God forbid someone needs to go to a hospital appointment.
Pathetic and embarrassing.
Wouldn't recommend using any Bus Eireann service to my worst enemy.

Use aircoacg wherever possible instead of this horror show

I normally fly from Dublin and usually get the aircoach from Cork. The last couple of times I got the expressway service it's horrible, dirty, late, smells and the most uncomfortable seats and absolutely no legroom for anyone over average height never mind 6ft plus. Back to Dublin for me and the aircoach, and avoid this horror show in the future.
Also it's 20 degrees and no aircon. With one window which was obviously smashed previously siliconed back in.
That can't be safe

The 6.30pm Expressway 64 bus from Derry…

The 6.30pm Expressway 64 bus from Derry is not in fact the 6.30pm but the 7pm bus. Apparently this happens consistently every week and yet the bus is still advertised as 6.30pm. This has had knock on effects for connections down the line which could have easily been avoided if the bus was advertised correctly. A very frustrating experience.

Disgrace

I think the expressway bus from Galway to cork is absolutely ridiculous,The bus was delayed half an hour and then the bus driver proceeded to say the bus is only stopping in Shannon airport and Limerick,I was stood waiting for the bus for an hour this is absolutely ridiculous carry on. Something definitely should be done about this. This bus needs more organised and displayed a lot clearer as it was a hassle to even find the bus stop itself. A lot of help from the people around but the workers themselves weren’t the nicest or clear about what was happening either. Really disappointed as it ruined the morning to my get away.

Driver was obviously having an extended nap before departing Galway bus garage. Should have left at 16.05 but we left 45 minutes late. Absolute farce of a company. Buses are cramped and uncomfortable. We nearly missed our flight after arriving at Shannon airport so late. Would have been easier to walk. My advice to anyone contemplating using this service is to not use it

i frequently use expressway to go to dublin airport from co louth. the service i use go dublin to donegal and can experience delays along the route but iv never missed a flight yet. we have fuel protests this week that is causing major delays. i arrived in dublin airport yesterday evening and walked outside to see a bus going to dundalk and i hopped on and got off in dunleer. the roads were empty. we git there in no time. the driver was very helpful and friendly. it's always best to prebook you trip as these buses can be full at peak times.

I was so delighted with the service dated 10/10/2026. The bus driver from Sligo to Dublin, bus time schedule 15.28. I joined the bus from balisodare.
Even though the bus turn up very late because of the protest, but the driver was so proffetional, respectful, careing, kind, polite...name it.
I was impresed.

How you can run a service from the…

How you can run a service from the knock airport to Sligo and back and have it run late is beyond me. If you're going to provide a bus service to airport it helps if it runs on time. It took 30 minutes to get everyone on the bus at Sligo heading towards Galway direction and cost us 30 quid each for a 50 minute journey. Extortionate prices should come with good service. It did not.

Great service lads. Just GREAT.

Great service lads. Just great. Opened the doors for an overbooked service 5 minutes before it was due to leave, abrasive driver who yelled at elderly and disabled passengers for trying to get on the bus quickly out of the rain. THIS IS A FOR PROFIT COMPANY that just shut down 3 routes, but gets to act like they're God's gift to Ireland for deigning to ALLOW us to get off convoluted services in rural Ireland that take an hour longer than advertised. Tell you what, in a nuclear apocalypse, the only things left in Ireland will be cockroaches and the owners of this company. Oh wait, I already said cockroaches.

I have to use the bus on Fridays to get from Derry to Donegal Town, the 6.30 bus. It is always late, very often dirty. Today (27/03/26) it was so late it left 7.30 pm, so an hour late. I don’t understand why the driver sometimes needs to wait 45min before and sometimes doesn’t. This is the worst bus company I have ever used.

Poor service & sexist driver

Poor service.
Overbooked.
Overpriced.
Sexist driver.
Longer than advertised journeys.
Uncomfortable seats.
I could go on, but I think the above clearly states that this company has ZERO customer service, logistics and transportation experience, and does not think about the needs and wellbeing of their customers.
