I was a member for several years and…

I was a member for several years and cancelled about a year ago because I wasn't really using their services. Decided to give it another try, but when I went to renew, the website kept giving me a payment error, even though my credit card company confirmed payment, and then confirmed payment refund. Did this twice, so I called customer service. Got someone from customer service who had a heavy foreign accent and I couldn't understand a word she said. During an exhaustive conversation trying to understand her, I finally gave up. Entirely. I give up on AARP. Not worth the effort.

Paid with debit card over the phone on…

Paid with debit card over the phone on 7/02/26 for the amount of $10.80, they took out $21.60 without consent! Absolutely stealing! Paid at 8:08am # S-870451586 Called back at 8:56am to file a complaint once I saw my bank statement on 7/02 as well. I amwas told that a full refund in the amount of $21.60 would be returned to my card. Incident # S-870450232. 7/13/26 at 5:18pm I called back to find the status of my refund. I was told that no complaint was ever filed and the incident was faked. It did not exist. This lady claimed that her name was Amy and she claims she has to get authorization for a refund which can take up to 10 business days to get approval. New incident # I-570070226. I also requested the complaint dept phone number. She provided me with 800-828-5979, which appears to be scam related...... 7/14/26 8:13am I called again today to be sure that my complaints were properly filed. The individual claiming to be Alan, claims he could not understand me and stated I would have to call back in another 2 hours if I wanted to speak to a supervisor. Overall, AARP is stealing and I am highly dissatisfied of my service! Contemplating on filing a policy report as well and I absolutely will be leaving a negative review!

AARP charged me $79 for a year but on their site it boasts $18 a year. They also sold my address. They are the only company that I used my maiden name on and now I’m getting junk mail from other places. They also screwed up my membership big time and 2 months later I get a notice that my renewal is up. I had just signed a couple of months before.

If customer service is a real thing at AARP, they’re doing a great job of hiding out. Almost two months I’ve been telling them that I can’t use my reward points but When I complain, I’m told that Desi in CA is working on it & she's the only one that can help me. problem is she didn't respond to either of my voicemails or my email while saying she needs more info. they have the nerve to publish articles on how to complain & get results (from other companies) how do we get results from AARP?

Very disappointed with life insurance

Very disappointed with life insurance. I pay yearly AARP for senior discounts. New York Life policy has consistently been higher in price than other companies. But you're stuck because you'll have to start a new company with the 2 yr period before full pay out of something happens to you.
So you paying higher premiums plus a membership price for AARP. Helping seniors...really?

Auto insurance is highly over-rated

Auto insurance is highly over-rated. Slow, incompetent service, higher monthly premuims than most other insurers. Customer communications are vague, canned responses. Emails are annoying and disrespectful. Junk mail is overwhelming.
As far as AARP site, rewards on watching videos often do not work, all are old and stale; points often do not register. Winning one of their sweepstakes is highly difficult.

Bad customer service

This is let you know that the AARP the Hartford insurance does not like to be dropped. After making a simple request to have my insurance bundled and was told this could not be done. The conversation turned personal and condescending. After being a Hartford customer for years, I would never recommend The Hartfor to anyone.

Non renewal of membership inspite of money paid for 5 years membership.

I paid $55 in 2025 to get membership for 5 years. I got renewal /expiry notice recently. On inquiry AARP told that the membership is for only 1 year! In spite of repeated requests and follow ups the customer care representatives gave evasive answers and did not fullfill their commitment. AARP is advocate for public fraud and they themselves are cheating their customers!!! Think twice before paying money for 5 years membership!

The AARP NYLife customer service is the worst I’ve ever experienced. I was hung up on twice trying to speak to a representative from the claims department. I think they do it on purpose. Nothing is simple with these people and I don’t have all day to be calling back they need to keep us on the line and do their job.

87% negative reviews

87% negative reviews. I have to agree. They sell airline tickets through Expedia and Expedia only cares that you are over 18. Tried to use purported restaurant discounts a couple of times but found too many restrictions to even make it worth mentioning. And no! Not 87% of reviews are by old people wanting to complain. Not even the Guardian can find 87% of people willing to complain about Trump.

Their programs to help seniors with insurance savings is junk. Hartford Insurance who they claim to be so good would not even insure our home due to a small claim on an older home we owned.
Small claim we had with prior company and now they won’t cover our new home.
Horrible service
