Forced to buy €379 insurance — staff lied about wife's credit card
Prepaid rental €171. At the counter I presented my credit card via Google Pay (NFC) — refused as "virtual card." My wife was standing next to me with a physical Visa credit card. We explicitly asked if her card could cover the security deposit. Staff said no.
That answer was false. Their own Clause 18 states the deposit can be captured using the card of an additional driver. Her card was valid. We were never told she could sign as additional driver and her card would be accepted. Instead, staff sold us OK Super Premium Cover for €379 — 2.2× the rental price — while we were travelling with an 18-month-old child, with no alternative transport.
I raised this in writing. OK Mobility eventually confirmed in their own response that Clause 18 permits an additional driver's card — but still refused to refund.
Formal complaint filed (case #1191971). Registered with Consumo Baleares (GOIBE533250/2026) and Junta Arbitral de Transporte de Baleares.
Their support ticket system has a dedicated category for "forced to buy insurance due to credit card issues" — this is not an isolated incident.
