feat(check): fail a package whose outputs name libdetbuild - #2652
libdetbuild.so (gominimal/pkgs#884) is the LD_PRELOAD shim that makes a build's entropy a fixed-seed stream and pins uname. Anything that captures the preload into what it ships (a libtool wrapper, config.status, a .pc or cmake file, a script that re-execs with the build's environment) carries it to users, whose processes would then draw guessable keys from OpenSSL, GnuTLS, libsodium or Python's secrets. The pkgs side can only police sources; this is the output side.
A new build-dependent checker, no libdetbuild in outputs, beside MissingRuntimeDeps in crates/check/src/outputs.rs: it walks every file of every declared output of the cached build and fails if any contains the byte string libdetbuild: one line names each file, and one explanation follows saying what the leak does and to change the build.
The glob walk every output checker shares (CheckCache::match_files_for_glob) no longer follows symlinked directories. Before, an output with two links back to its root (loop -> ., bin/up -> ..) sent output types valid and missing runtime_deps into a walk that doubles at each level up to the kernel's 40-link limit. A cached build holds files at their real paths and links as links, so the no-follow walk still reaches every cached file. The detbuild package, which ships the library itself, is the one exemption. Files are read in 64 KiB chunks with an overlap, so a match across a chunk boundary is seen and a large output is not read whole. Skips like its siblings: when named in skip_checkers, when the package is not in the graph, or when its build is not cached.
Testing
Round 6: the check-cache walk ignores a symlink loop and still finds a library beside a lib64 -> lib link (with the old walk the loop alone returns 80 paths instead of 1); output types valid ends over the two-link loop; the failure prints one line per file and one explanation. Prepush on anvil at the merged head (job 01918): green except Kani's rcache proof, which fails to compile identically on pristine main on that host (backtrace 0.3.76, E0659).
crates/check tests: a wrapper that recorded LD_PRELOAD fails and the error names it; a clean output passes, including a near-miss that straddles the chunk boundary; the needle straddling the boundary is found; detbuild itself passes; the two skip paths. just clippy clean; workspace tests through anvil's CI mirror.
Not done: a sweep of the current pkgs outputs with the new check. Worth running once over the cache before the next release to see whether anything already ships it; happy to do that on anvil if useful.
`libdetbuild.so` (gominimal/pkgs#884) is the `LD_PRELOAD` shim that fixes a build's entropy and
`uname`. Anything that captures the preload into what it ships (a libtool wrapper, `config.status`,
a `.pc` or cmake file, a script that re-execs with the build's environment) carries it to users,
whose processes would then draw guessable keys. A new build-dependent checker, `no libdetbuild in
outputs`, walks every file of every declared output of the cached build and fails if any contains
the byte string, naming each file; the `detbuild` package, which ships the library, is the one
exemption. Files are read in chunks with an overlap, so a match across a boundary is seen and a
large output is not read whole. Skips as its siblings do: named in `skip_checkers`, not in the
graph, or not cached.

The package checker scans cached package outputs for libdetbuild. It exempts the detbuild package and runs alongside the existing package checkers. Glob matching now supports scans that do not follow symlinked directories.
Changes: Detbuild output check
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Implement and test output scanning crates/check/src/outputs.rs, crates/check/Cargo.toml, Cargo.toml
Adds OutputsFreeOfDetbuild, which skips disabled, absent, or uncached packages. For other packages, it scans output files, reports matching paths, and returns non-NotFound cache read errors. Chunked scanning detects matches across read boundaries. Tests cover matches, clean outputs, boundary-spanning matches, the package exemption, and skip conditions. Adds memchr as a shared workspace dependency and to the check crate.
Adds match_files_for_glob_no_follow, which does not descend into symlinked directories but still matches symlinked files. The existing match_files_for_glob continues to follow symlinked directories. A test covers a symlink loop and symlinked-file matching.
Register the package checker crates/check/src/lib.rs
Adds OutputsFreeOfDetbuild to the parallel checker batch. Its result uses the existing cancellation check and error conversion.

Explanation
Issue #2489 requires a build-dependent checker beside MissingRuntimeDeps in crates/check/src/outputs.rs. The checker fails any output file that contains libdetbuild, and exempts the detbuild package. The checker OutputsFreeOfDetbuild remains registered and implemented at the reviewed head. The incremental changes since the previous review do not alter this objective. The scan now uses common::match_files_for_glob_no_follow, so a symlink loop in an output does not walk forever. Cancellation now returns Ok(None) from file_contains, which the caller maps to a bail on cancellation or an error. A cancelled read is never reported as a clean file. Skip behavior for disabled checks, packages outside the graph, and uncached builds is unchanged. Tests cover matches, clean output, chunk-boundary matches, the detbuild exemption, and skip paths. Issue #2227 and pkgs#884 remain background only. The output sweep named in the PR description is not a coding requirement.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The incremental changes in crates/common/src/lib.rs add match_files_for_glob_no_follow. This function is used only by the new checker. The existing match_files_for_glob keeps its prior behavior: it follows symlinked directories through match_files_for_glob_with(..., true), which uses path.is_dir() as before. A new test covers the symlink-loop case and symlinked-file matching. In outputs.rs, the change removes the check_cache dependency from DetbuildScan and reads through the no-follow walk. That change supports the no-follow scan and the cancellation fix. No unrelated production behavior or unrelated file change is shown. The doc comment that cites a review thread is a documentation style issue only and does not affect scope.

…he read error
From review (#2652). The spec hash, the package name and the output globs
are read under the graph guard and are all the blocking task gets; the
graph is no longer cloned per package. A cached build that is not there
is still a skip; a cache that cannot be read is an error naming the
package, never a silent pass over an output that exists. The test helper
sits above the doc comment it had split.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The checker's tests had landed between that doc comment and the function
it documents, so the comment described the first test. The paragraph
rejoins graph_with_pkg; the tests keep their own.

The cache-read failure is wrapped with anyhow context, but the blocking closure converts it to a string with format!("{e}"). That string comes from Error's Display impl, which writes Error::Other with {}. That form prints only the outer context, reading the cached build of {name}. The underlying cache-read error is not in the reported message.
Changing the closure to format!("{e:#}") does not fix this. Display for Error calls write!(f, "{}", e), which does not pass the outer alternate flag to the inner anyhow::Error. The change belongs in the Display impl:
For errors without a source, the output does not change. For wrapped errors, format!("{e}") at the blocking boundary and at the checker invocation then keeps the cause.

…, the search memmem's
Review on round 3: too much state in one function, too much nesting, a
hand-rolled substring search. The scan is `DetbuildScan`, built under the
graph's guard with only what it needs and run on the blocking pool;
`verdict` is the skip/pass/fail decision and `outputs_naming_detbuild` the
files, per glob, that contain the needle, as one iterator chain per glob.
The search in each chunk is `memchr::memmem` (already in the tree); the
chunk-and-overlap stays because the standard library has no streaming
substring search. Behaviour and the five tests are unchanged.

Review on round 4. A file two output globs both name was read and reported
twice: the files are a set now, in path order. And a cancelled check could
wait for the current glob and file: the scan asks the token between files
and before every chunk, and a read it interrupts is reported as the
check's cancellation, not as an I/O error of the file.

…topped read is never clean
Review on round 5. The shared glob walker follows a symlinked directory, so
an output with a loop in it (`a -> .`) is walked to the kernel's link limit
with the same files matched at every level; this scan reads whatever a
build produced, so it walks with `match_files_for_glob_no_follow`, which
descends only into real directories and still matches a symlinked file.
The other callers keep the following walk they rely on. And a read the
cancel token stopped came back as an `Interrupted` error, which a real
EINTR shares: `file_contains` now says `None` for a stopped read, and the
scan reports the cancellation or refuses to call the file clean.

The scan reads right, and 0chroma's three points are addressed (DetbuildScan, the flattened collection, memchr::memmem).
CodeRabbit's latest finding at outputs.rs:521 (files under symlinked dirs go unscanned) does not hold: match_outputs_into (sandbox/src/lib.rs:2668) walks the build output without following links, copies only entries whose real path matches an output glob with the same matcher options, and rejects links that leave the build output. Every regular file in the cache is reachable by the no-follow walk. The same applies to the last minimal-review LOW about an absolute symlink outside the build.
Before I approve:
The failure message at crates/check/src/outputs.rs:505, which every failing package prints, needs another pass against the user-facing text rules in AGENTS.md: it names an issue number, uses the internal phrase "LD_PRELOAD shim", gives no next step (what to remove from which file, or the skip_checkers name), and joins several facts on one line.
Error::Other displays with {} (lib.rs:98), so a cache-read failure prints "reading the cached build of X" without the cause. {:#} in the Display impl keeps it. (CodeRabbit's outside-diff comment at dc3cd32.)
Nits: the filter(is_file) at outputs.rs:523 is redundant; else if if follow {…} at common/src/lib.rs:359 is hard to read; the doc comment at common/src/lib.rs:324 cites a PR review.
… error keeps its cause
Review round 7 (Norrie). The failure every flagged package prints now follows the user-facing text
rules: the situation in plain words, then the one next step the user can run as written (remove the
reference, or `--skip-checkers "no libdetbuild in outputs"`); no issue number, no shim talk, one
fact per sentence. `Error::Other` displays with the alternate form, so "reading the cached build of
X" keeps the I/O cause behind it. The redundant `is_file` filter after the walk goes (the walk only
collects files), the `else if if` in the walker reads as one `descend` decision, and the no-follow
doc no longer cites a review.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Round 7 (0f5bbc1) is up for Norrie's two asks and the nits.
The failure message now follows the user-facing text rules: <path> contains the text libdetbuild. The build wrote the name of its build-time library into this output, and the package must not ship it. Remove the reference from the output, or skip this check with --skip-checkers "no libdetbuild in outputs". No issue number, no shim, one fact per sentence, and a next step the user can run as written (the flag is mip check's). The unit test asserts the shape and the flag.
Error::Other displays with {:#}, so "reading the cached build of X" keeps the I/O cause behind it.
Nits: the filter(is_file) after the walk is gone (the walk only collects files); the walker's else if if is one descend decision now; the no-follow doc no longer cites a review.
On CodeRabbit's symlinked-directory finding and the minimal-review LOW: as Norrie read it, match_outputs_into already walks the build output without following links and copies only regular files whose real path matches an output glob, rejecting links that leave the build, so every file the cache holds is reachable by the no-follow walk; neither finding holds against the cache this scan reads.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Scope matches the title. The common glob variant and the {:#} change both serve the new check. Clobber none: the branch commits touch only this feature, and match_files_for_glob keeps its behaviour for its other callers. Correctness the chunk overlap in file_contains is correct. The no-follow walk reaches every regular file in a cached build, because crates/op/src/specs.rs:363 builds the output globs with the same options as common. The main problems are in the failure message: it offers a bypass of a safety check, and it names a flag that min check does not have. One correction to the thread replies: match_outputs_into does copy symlinks (crates/sandbox/src/lib.rs:2706-2726), so the cache is not regular files only. The conclusion of those replies still holds, because the function rejects links that leave the build. Not checked: no build and no tests ran. The pkgs CI is not in this repo, so I cannot say whether a skipped check reaches a release. The sweep of current pkgs outputs in the PR body is still open.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
high · The failure message offers the skip flag as an equal remedy and gives no consequence. A package author reads a failed check and sees a one-flag way to make it pass. The doc comment on OutputsFreeOfDetbuild says that a leaked preload gives users guessable keys, and a later fix cannot undo keys already issued. Say what the leak does, and tell the person to fix the build. Remove the skip advice, or keep it only for a mention that does not load the library, and state that limit. "Remove the reference from the output" is also not an action, because the person cannot edit a cached output. The sibling checks do not advertise a skip, so this is one instance. The test at line 813 pins the text and must change with it.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
The message now says what the leak does and that a later rebuild cannot undo keys already made, then tells the author to change the build. I dropped the flag rather than qualify it: the detbuild shim is already exempt in code, and for any other package a skip ships the leak, so there is no case where the message should point at it. The test asserts the consequence, the fix, and that no skip flag appears (d7a4398).
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
medium · The message names a flag that min check does not have. The checker also runs under min check inside a box, and there CheckOpts::from_args (crates/minimald/src/box_ops.rs:249) refuses the flag with unknown flag. docs/reference/sandbox-operations.md:60 confirms this. The text also shows a bare flag, not a command the person can run as written. The comment at line 505 says that the flag is mip check's, but the person does not see that comment. If the skip advice stays, print the whole command with the package name: mip check --skip-checkers "no libdetbuild in outputs" <name>.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
You're right: CheckOpts::from_args refuses --skip-checkers, so the remedy failed where people mostly run the check. The message now names no flag at all; it states the leak and asks for a change to the build, which holds under both min check and mip check (d7a4398).
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
low · The {:#} format prints a cache I/O failure twice. CacheErr::IO writes the io error into its own Display (crates/lcache/src/lib.rs:205) and also returns it from source() (line 214). The new error from verdict therefore prints reading the cached build of foo: i/o error: Permission denied (os error 13): Permission denied (os error 13). Fix CacheErr so that only one of the two carries the text, or format the error into one message at line 491. This change applies to every Error::Other with a chain, not only this check.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Fixed so the chain carries the cause once, but on the source() side: CacheErr keeps the io error in its Display and no longer returns it as source() (046c993). op, orchestrator and rcache print CacheErr with a plain {}, so a Display without the cause would lose "Permission denied" in all of them, and no chain walker in the tree looks for an io::Error under a CacheErr. lcache has a test on the printed chain, and the check test asserts the full error text. Same pattern remains in common's FileCacheError and op::Error::Cache; not touched here.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
low · Three fix commits in this branch have no test that drives them. No test cancels the token, so nothing proves that a stopped read is never reported as a clean file. That is the exact defect that commit 3811790 fixed. No test covers a cache read error other than NotFound. No test puts a symlink loop or a file named by two globs under the scan, and the only loop test is in common. A change to these branches can return a false pass with all tests green. Add a file_contains test with a stop closure that returns true, and a scan test with a cancelled token.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Added tests for all three (d7a4398). The scan now lists files and reads them in two steps, so one test cancels in between and gets Error::Cancelled, and another stops file_contains mid-file and gets None. A third gives the cache an ENOTDIR read error and asserts the printed cause, and a fourth puts a loop -> . link under two globs that both match the leaking file and expects one error. The cancel and cache tests fail with the old code put back.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
low · The doc comment on verdict says that the exempt package skips, but the code passes it. Line 497 sets Pass before the name check at line 498, and the test no_detbuild_exempts_the_detbuild_package asserts Pass. The doc comment on DetbuildScan at line 470 has the same kind of error. It says "the caches", but the struct has one cache field since the check cache left the scan. Correct both comments.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
I went with the doc: the detbuild package now skips, checked before the cache is read, because Pass claimed a scan that never ran over an output that contains the string by design. The DetbuildScan doc now says "the cache", and the exempt test asserts Skip (d7a4398).
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
nit · Some comments answer the review rounds and do not explain the code. This one tells the reader that the message follows AGENTS.md. Lines 439-441 argue against a graph clone that no longer exists. Lines 552-556 answer the "does std have this" question and the EINTR thread. Remove the comment at 504-505, and cut the other two to what the code does.
Reviewer left the team on 2026-11-03; the three asks (a scan type, a filter/map chain per glob, memmem for the search) were done in 7d288ba (the 2026-10-29 push).
CacheErr::IO wrote the io error into its Display and also returned it from source(), so any
printer that walks the chain ({:#} on an anyhow::Error) printed "Permission denied" twice.
Display keeps the cause, since op, orchestrator and rcache print CacheErr with {} and would lose
it otherwise; source() no longer returns it. A test prints the chain and finds the cause once.

…s drive the fixes
The message offered the skip flag as an equal remedy, and min check refuses that flag. It now
says what a leaked preload does (a fixed-seed random stream, guessable keys that a later fix
cannot undo) and tells the author to change the build. It names no flag: the detbuild package
is exempt in code, and skipping the check anywhere else ships the leak.
The detbuild package now skips before any cache read, as the doc on verdict said; Pass claimed
a scan that never ran. The scan splits into the glob walk and the reads, so a test can cancel
between them and see Error::Cancelled, never a clean file. New tests cover a cache read error
other than NotFound (its cause printed once) and a symlink loop under two overlapping globs.
Comments that answered earlier review rounds now say only what the code does.

Round 5 (d7a4398): Norrie's six threads, answered inline. Prepush on anvil (job 01865) green except cargo-machete (#2872) and cargo-deny's two pulldown-cmark advisories, which come from this branch's base; the merge with main passes cargo-deny. Merging main in clears both on the tip, say if you'd like that.

Scope matches the title. The common and lcache changes trace to review rounds on the scan and on the printed cause. The PR body is stale in one place: it says detbuild passes, but the code now skips it.
Clobber not checked. The sandbox denied git log and git blame, so I read only the diff. The removed lines are CacheErr::source, the {} format of Error::Other and the path.is_dir() branch. Each removal is deliberate and has a comment or a replacement.
Correctness The chunk overlap, the cancel path, the exemption and the skip paths are correct by reading. The no-follow walk loses no file. match_outputs_into matches real paths with the same glob options, so each cached regular file is reachable without a link.
One reply in the threads is wrong, but the result stands. match_outputs_into does not copy only regular files: it recreates internal symlinks at crates/sandbox/src/lib.rs:2725. It rejects links that leave the build, so the scan still opens nothing outside the root.
The main finding is that the loop protection reaches only the new checker. The two sibling checkers still follow links on the same output.
Cost This check reads every byte of every output on each run. The comment on open_output measures a whole read at 112–123 s against 24–27 s on a cold sweep. The verdict is not memoised by spec hash, so expect a slower cold mip check over a large tree.
Not checked Nothing was compiled, so the clippy finding is unproven. gitleaks and trivy did not run because the shell was denied. The diff has no credentials by reading, and memchr adds only one dependency edge in Cargo.lock. I could not read gominimal/pkgs. A package that ships min or mip will fail this check, because those binaries contain the needle and the message text. I could not check whether such a package exists. I also did not check whether op::Error prints a cause twice under the new {:#} format.

high · The loop protection covers only the new checker, so mip check can still hang on the output that this PR tests. check_package joins OutputTypesValid and MissingRuntimeDeps with the new checker. Both call CheckCache::match_files_for_glob (crates/check/src/lib.rs:258), which still follows links, and find_lib_in_deps (outputs.rs:609) does the same. The fixture in no_detbuild_reports_each_file_once_across_a_symlink_loop has loop -> . and bin/up -> .. under **/*. match_outputs_into keeps both links, because their targets are internal. Two link paths back to the root double the walk at each level, up to the kernel limit of 40 links, so the walk is about 2^40 directory reads. cmd_check.rs has no timeout. This defect exists before this PR, so the PR is not a regression. Use the no-follow walk in the check cache too, or track visited directories in the following walk. The doc comment says these callers need lib64 -> lib, so test that claim first. A file that is reachable only through a link can have no cached copy, because match_outputs_into matches real paths.

Fixed for every checker, not only this one (e540c99): CheckCache::match_files_for_glob now walks without following symlinked directories, so output types valid, missing runtime_deps and find_lib_in_deps all stop at a link. The lib64 -> lib claim was mine and untested; as you say, match_outputs_into copies real paths and links as links, so the no-follow walk reaches every cached file. A test pins that **/libfoo.so.1 still finds usr/lib/libfoo.so.1 with usr/lib64 -> lib beside it (with the old walk put back, the lo

op alone returns 80 paths instead of 1), and a second runs your two-link fixture through output types valid. The following walk's doc now states the loop hazard; its only remaining caller is op's subset copy (crates/op/src/subsets.rs), which deserves its own issue.

low · mod glob_tests sits in the middle of the file, with synth_dns_config and other items after it. crates/common/src/lib.rs:740 already has mod tests. Move the test there. Clippy's items_after_test_module is a default warning, and the workspace does not allow it. just clippy runs with --all-targets -D warnings, so the Linux scope can fail on this module. On macOS, the scope is -p minvmd -p boxes and does not lint common. I did not compile, so the lint result is not proven. The mid-file module is the only instance in this file.

nit · Each matching file gets the full five-sentence paragraph, and mip prints every entry in full (crates/mip/src/cmd_check.rs:164). A libtool package with many .la, .pc and wrapper files prints the same paragraph for each file. A symlinked file and its target also count as two paths, so libfoo.so and libfoo.so.1 each get a copy. The file names are then hard to find. Push one line for each file, and push the explanation once. The sibling checkers print one short line for each problem.

Each matching file now prints one line and the explanation follows once after the list (e540c99). The test stages a wrapper and a libtool .la and checks two short lines in path order and a single explanation.
…llow doc names its hazard
A test module mid-file trips clippy's items_after_test_module under -D warnings. The
following walk's doc claimed callers needed it for lib64 -> lib; none in check does, and
the doc now says what the walk does: it follows a loop down to the kernel's link limit.

… one line per leaking file
output types valid and missing runtime_deps walked outputs through CheckCache, which
followed symlinked directories: two links back to the root (loop -> ., bin/up -> ..)
double the walk at each level to the 40-link limit, so mip check never ends. Collecting
outputs copies real paths and links as links, so a no-follow walk reaches every cached
file; a dep's library under usr/lib is still found with usr/lib64 -> lib beside it.
The libdetbuild check printed its whole explanation for every matching file. Each file
now gets one line, and the explanation follows once.

Round 6 (6a87353): main merged in (clears the pulldown-cmark advisories on the old base), every output checker's glob walk stops at symlinked directories (not only the detbuild scan), the test is in mod tests, and the failure prints one line per file with one explanation. Prepush on anvil (job 01918) green except Kani's rcache proof, which fails to compile the same way on pristine main on that host (a backtrace 0.3.76 ambiguity), not something this PR touches.

Scope matches the title. The diff adds the checker, the no-follow walk that it needs, and the error-chain change for the cache read. Clobber none: the diff removes only the CacheErr::source body and the lines that it replaces, and git log on the touched files shows only this branch's commits at the top.
Correctness The change is good. match_outputs_into uses a no-follow walk, matches real paths, and refuses links that leave the output. So every cached file has a real path that a declared glob matches, and the new scan reaches it. The chunk overlap in file_contains is correct. A cancelled scan can not report a clean file, because check_package calls bail_if_cancelled before it reads a result. No caller in op, orchestrator, rcache or mip reads CacheErr::source(). The printed lines pass the printed-text test. The one finding is a nit.
Known and not raised again Two points already have replies in the threads. SubsetBuild at crates/op/src/subsets.rs:34 still uses the following walk, so the two-link loop can still hang a subset build. A fix there must keep the lib64/foo paths that the following walk copies today. op::Error::Cache still prints its cause twice under {:#}, and StandaloneTestCheck reaches this path at crates/check/src/lib.rs:1131.
Not checked I did not build or run the tests. I did not run gitleaks or trivy, because the shell refused those commands here. A targeted search of the diff found no credential. The Cargo.lock change adds one edge to a crate that is already locked. The pkgs repository is not in this checkout, so I can not say which packages the check fails today. The PR body also says that this sweep is not done. Any package that ships a binary with the check crate in it contains the literal libdetbuild and will fail. I found no such package in this repository.

nit · output_files calls common::match_files_for_glob_no_follow directly. CheckCache::match_files_for_glob (crates/check/src/lib.rs:260) now does the same no-follow walk, and OutputTypesValid and MissingRuntimeDeps already use it for the same (root, glob) keys. An earlier round used the cache here. The direct call became unnecessary when the cache walk stopped following links. Add a CheckCache field to DetbuildScan and call the cache. The check then does not walk each cached build again, and one place decides the walk policy. This is the only direct call in crates/check, so the fix is local.

Summary
Closes #2489.
libdetbuild.so(gominimal/pkgs#884) is theLD_PRELOADshim that makes a build's entropy a fixed-seed stream and pinsuname. Anything that captures the preload into what it ships (a libtool wrapper, config.status, a.pcor cmake file, a script that re-execs with the build's environment) carries it to users, whose processes would then draw guessable keys from OpenSSL, GnuTLS, libsodium or Python'ssecrets. The pkgs side can only police sources; this is the output side.A new build-dependent checker,
no libdetbuild in outputs, besideMissingRuntimeDepsincrates/check/src/outputs.rs: it walks every file of every declared output of the cached build and fails if any contains the byte stringlibdetbuild: one line names each file, and one explanation follows saying what the leak does and to change the build. The glob walk every output checker shares (

Before, an output with two links back to its root (loop -> .,bin/up -> ..) sentoutput types validandmissing runtime_depsinto a walk that doubles at each level up to the kernel's 40-link limit. A cached build holds files at their real paths and links as links, so the no-follow walk still reaches every cached file. Thedetbuildpackage, which ships the library itself, is the one exemption. Files are read in 64 KiB chunks with an overlap, so a match across a chunk boundary is seen and a large output is not read whole. Skips like its siblings: when named inskip_checkers, when the package is not in the graph, or when its build is not cached.Testing
