Summary

The shared client core for the remote-sessions epic (gominimal/inbox#513): one Rust core carrying the mesh peer, the attach sequence, the RPC driver, the credential flow and host trust for every head — the min CLI, the browser bundle, later a mobile app. Fifty-nine requirements under the MCC prefix in five groups (core boundary, transport, attach and RPC, credential, CLI adoption, browser contract), ten at T1 with properties over owned values; the rest T0 with the reason stated per invariant-covering requirement.

Trimmed on 2026-09-09 to what the epic's acceptance criteria and the recorded decisions trace to, in the shape of the Box Provider abstraction spec (arch#45): terms defined once, the architecture and the siblings cited rather than restated, one Design reasoning paragraph per decision naming the alternatives, every open question with its reason for surviving. 1108 lines to 929.

Retirements (IDs never reused)

  • MCC-005, decisions at the injected clock: mechanism; the seam stays in Design reasoning and the properties name it.
  • MCC-055, local UDS/vsock behaviour unchanged: duplicated MCC-033 and GHS-009.
  • MCC-058, min auth status: no acceptance criterion or decision behind it; destination the architecture's CLI reference.
  • MCC-N01 to MCC-N03, loopback latency and close bounds: proof-of-concept measurements with headroom, not bounds anyone set; the measurements stay in the direction plan.
  • Earlier: MCC-004 (2026-09-04) and MCC-007 (2026-09-09), mechanism, now the Crate shape paragraph.

Siblings

  • WMC, the browser client (webapp#763): consumes the browser contract group (MCC-060 to MCC-081) by ID.
  • MMI, the daemon's mesh ingress (docs(specs): add the minimald mesh ingress spec for the remote sessions epic #1356): bound by ID for ingress, exit signals, repaint, the relay and the owner rule. MMI may be superseded by the networking spec in preparation, which implements the architecture's networking requirements v2 and its deployment and egress-gateway design v0.2.
  • The networking design (deployment and egress-gateway, v0.2), cited by section: on a pinned host the attach path transits the host's Egress Gateway, which forwards as a relay and admits clients by the same ticket (§4.5); MCC-014 and MCC-070 name it as the home relay, and Security considerations carry the forwarder invariant (T29, T30).
  • GHS, GitHub sessions (docs(specs): add the GitHub sessions spec for the GitHub auth epic #1351): the CLI sign-in ceremony MCC-050 rides on.
  • BPA, the Box Provider abstraction (arch#45, draft): the provider's view of a host; MCC-054 cites BPA-013 and BPA-015 for provider-list hosts.
  • Gatehouse v1.17 (§5.3, §5.7, §6.1.7, §6.6, §6.9, §7.4, §8.2), cited by section.

Open questions

Nine: one key or two for DPoP and SSH; the relay ticket's missing mesh-key claim and the peer document's missing friendly name; host-certificate revocation; the CLI node key's rotation; the SSH username under certificate auth; the default width of protocol_window; the wasm head's packaging; the daemon's WireGuard pump; interoperability with other WireGuard peers. Each states why it survives.

Verification

spec-lint from foundry main (84fa718, which drops the status field): 58 findings, all P004, one per named test not yet written. The installed plugin (0.3.0) predates that change and adds one F004 for the missing status:. Self-scored against the spec-review rubric after the rewrite: no ✕ left on observable, universal, tier, faithful or defined; stories verbatim; every non-goal has a destination; the first slice runs end to end.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Added a comprehensive specification for a shared client core supporting CLI, browser, and future mobile clients.
    • Documented transport, attach/RPC, authentication, signing, host trust, renewal, reconnect, status, errors, and bundle verification.
    • Clarified timeout handling, relay fallback, output ordering, local transport exceptions, browser signing options, redirect and issuer validation, and cancellable credential calls.
    • Defined browser security constraints, resource limits, protocol negotiation, verification commands, and security invariants.
    • Specified Egress Gateway routing for pinned hosts, canonical tunnel principals, and ciphertext-only forwarding through relays and gateways.
    • Specified bundle compatibility rules and when host certificate requirements apply.

…ons epic

The client-side spec for gominimal/inbox#513's browser story: one Rust
core for the CLI, the browser and later mobile; the client half of the
credential design (a signer seam for keys the core does not hold,
certificate authentication, host-certificate verification against
pinned anchors, the public-client login flow, transparent renewal); CLI
adoption; and the cross-repo browser contract the webapp spec cites by
requirement ID. Sibling of 14-spec-minimald-mesh-ingress (daemon and
relay) and gominimal/webapp's browser client spec.

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 46bc5

The shared client-core specification still leaves authentication binding, transport fallback, and host-trust behavior insufficiently constrained. These gaps could cause authorization confusion, avoidable connection failures, or overly broad host acceptance, so the change needs resolution or explicit acceptance before merge.

The webapp spec needs to show an issuer's refusal reason and to tell a
refusal from an outage; MCC-067's calls had no named failure shape.

The arch stack that closed gominimal/arch#16 to #22 landed on main on
2026-09-07. Bind MCC to the sections instead of the issues: the `public`
client kind and certify for it (§6.1.7, §5.7, §6.6), `GET /v1/nodes` with
the liveness working values (§8.2, `ReadNode` §7.4), relay tickets and
peer documents (§6.9, D7, T29), the mesh-attach host principal (§5.3), and
the sessions-are-boxes decision mapping (§7.4). Liveness now comes from
the node listing, not the peer document (MCC-015, MCC-070); the peer
document gains its `seq` and staleness rule; the expected principal for a
tunnel-addressed host is the node's canonical name (MCC-032); presence at
the chain cap is a user gesture, never a fresh sign-in (MCC-040); the
relay ticket is the arch's claim set with the §6.9 binding presented
beside it for the mesh key (MCC-071). Remove the seven resolved open
questions and add two the landed text raises: one key or two for DPoP and
SSH, and the ticket's missing mesh-key claim.

Seven invariant-covering requirements move to T1 with properties over
values the core owns (MCC-006, 036, 038, 040, 041, 042, 078); the Tiers
paragraph says per requirement why the rest stay at T0. MCC-036 now
covers the node listing and peer-document fetch; the sixth invariant is
narrowed to what MCC-073 and MCC-074 deliver. The version-skew window is
a named configured constant, `protocol_window`, its default width still
open. MCC-021, MCC-053 and MCC-071 are marked as interims and their
terms defined; MCC-070 reads `td` and requests a friendly name of the
peer document. MCC-007 is retired as mechanism; MCC-001, 003, 012, 050,
052, 053 and 073 keep the observable and drop the how. The third story,
not in the epic, is replaced by the initiative's own sentence; the
"Sync Files Out" story is recorded as bound by no spec. Non-goals name
owners or say none; suspension, tick, page session and the issuer set
are defined; the first slice names what a person runs.

Retire the requirements no acceptance criterion or recorded decision
asked for: MCC-005 (decisions at the injected clock; mechanism, now the
seam the properties name), MCC-055 (duplicate of MCC-033 and GHS-009),
MCC-058 (`min auth status`; no criterion or decision behind it), and
MCC-N01 to MCC-N03 (proof-of-concept measurements, not bounds anyone
set), each with a Non-goal destination and it
8000
s ID never reused. Define
the terms once in a Requirements preamble; cite Gatehouse and the
siblings instead of restating them; state the transport group's binding
to the networking spec in preparation, which MMI may fold into; cut the
Design reasoning to one paragraph per decision with alternatives named;
give every open question its reason for surviving. 1108 lines to 929,
65 requirements to 59; lint reports P004 only.

while preserving the existing SSH and JWS encoding responsibilities.
- Around line 154-159: The MCC-014 requirement should define cancellation and a

Verdict COMMENT — COMMENT: policy.actions.request_changes is off; policy.actions.approve is off.

Scope: A single new spec document (930 lines, one changed file). The numeral bookkeeping holds up: 59 requirements under the MCC prefix, ten universal-carrying at T1 with properties, nine open questions, and the retired-ID accounting matches a full cross-reference sweep (only the five named retirements are the-identified-but-undefined; no dangling self-cites). It reads as genuinely trimmed to the epic's accepted criteria and recorded decisions; sibling and architecture cites are used by Section rather than restated.

Clobber: None. The diff adds one new file; nothing reverts or overwrites recent work; the HEAD commit that drops the retired scrollback reference is already applied and reflected in MCC-061.

Correctness: Two reconcilable defects. (1) Medium — the local-socket host-certificate rule is contradictory: MCC-032 and the first Security Invariant require a verifiable host certificate for a host "off a local socket", while MCC-033 and MCC-051 exempt all local UDS/vsock transports, so the invariant forbids the no-cert local attach the spec elsewhere mandates; the two named verify tests cannot both pass on the same transport. One of the two wordings is stale and needs the "other than a local UDS/vsock" carve-out. (2) Low — the "direction" link points at plans/browser-min-client-direction.plan.md, a file absent from this repo and only present on the unmerged feat/min-core-wasm-poc branch, so a merged spec 404s at its own primary direction source unless the plan lands in the tree first.

Could not check: the sibling-spec cross-references (WMC, MMI, GHS, BPA IDs — their texts are not in this repo), the Gatehouse/architecture §-cites, the claims that spec-lint is clean (the foundry plugin isn't installed here), and the just wasm-core* recipes these requirements name don't exist yet — only asserted in the doc. None of that casts doubt on either finding, which are internal to this document and verifiable by reading it.

What ran

6 probe(s), all self-reported — every entry below is the model's own account of what it ran. None of it is host-attested, so none of it can gate a blocking verdict.

Verification log

1. grep defined MCC-NNN yields and every in-text MCC-NNN cite` — self-reported

Cross-checked every MCC-### reference in the file against the 59 defined requirements. No dangling self-reference: the only cited-but-undefined IDs are the five retired identifiers (MCC-004, -005, -007, -055, -058), which the Retired identifiers paragraph names. Count matches the PR body's "Fifty-nine requirements" claim.

2. tier/property agreement: ten property: lines, all at T1 — self-reported

Extracted tier and property fields across all requirements. Exactly the ten requirements the Tiers paragraph calls out (MCC-006, -030, -032, -034, -036, -038, -040, -041, -042, -078) carry property: and each is at tier T0 no property appears on a T0 requirement.

3. bookkeeping, batch read-only — self-reported

Open questions = nine (one ID each), matching "Nine" claim; two parse as LOW. Managed retirement table matches retired ID set. Constants paragraph (60 s/20 s/10 s/30 s) matches the requirement text.

4. git show.git --stat and git ls-tree for plans path — exit 0 · self-reported

git ls-tree -r --name-only <PR branch> printed no plans/browser-min-client-direction.plan.md; ls plans/ fails (exit 2). git log --all -- plans/... shows the file only on origin/feat/min-core-wasm-poc not on the PR branch guarantee of the doc's link target.

5. rg over file for secret-shaped content — exit 0 · self-reported

No password, client_secret, api_key, embedded private keys, or long bearer strings in the spec (REQUIRES nothing secret; the doc never restates credentials).

6. read MCC-032/MCC-033/MCC-051/Invariant in full — self-reported

Confirmed the local-socket host-certificate contradiction by re-opening lines 243-269, 369-374 and 852-858 in the source file, not just the diff.

MCC-032 and the host-trust invariant said "off a local socket", which
reads as the local socket itself and contradicted MCC-033 and MCC-051;
MCC-038's no-anchors rule is scoped the same way.

The direct-dial fallback names its deadline (MCC-011's 20 s) and runs
inside the attach bound; merged output is defined as channel arrival
order; the signer contract states the P-256 raw shape beside Ed25519;
the host HTTP call follows no redirect and the iss check is set
membership by Gatehouse §6.1.6's design; the bundle check refuses a
core release older than min's own; a credential call is bounded at
10 s and cancelled.

minimal-review — advisory review

Verdict COMMENT — COMMENT: policy.actions.request_changes is off; policy.actions.approve is off.

Scope — Single-file docs PR adding docs/specs/13-spec-min-client-core/13-spec-min-client-core.md, the shared client-core spec (MCC) for the remote-sessions epic. Content matches the stated intent: 59 requirements (counted), ten at T1 each carrying exactly one property, retirement and open-question sections per the BPA-spec form. No unrelated hunks.

Clobber — None and none risked: the file is new, the path has no history on main, and git log on the path shows only this spec's own authoring series (tip trim followed by review-response commits) — no overwritten spec, no revert.

Correctness — checked by reading + cross-referencing, not by building: (1) every in-document MCC-### reference resolves to a real requirement or a recorded retired identifier; (2) all MMI bindings cited by ID (001, 010, 011, 022, 024, 025, 027, 028, 051, 053, 071, 072, 077) exist on the sibling docs/spec-minimald-mesh-ingress branch and the load-bearing semantics check out (repaint, exit signals, relay key derivation, browser-request ban); (3) the two contract gaps prior review flagged are fixed in this revision — the host-certificate rule is now scoped to non-local transports in MCC-032/033/051 and both Security invariants, and the direction-plan link is a blob URL whose branch and file I verified to exist (the plan lives only there, so the link review settled); (4) tier/property arithmetic matches the Tiers design paragraph; (5) numbered gaps are deliberate, not dropped-and-unrecorded requirements — the missing IDs never appear in any revision or on the POC branch. No secrets. The only residual worth knowing: the frontmatter updated: 2026-09-09 predates the 09-10 edits by one day — a nit.

Not checked — the Gatehouse §5.x–§8.2 citations and the WMC/GPS/BPA sibling specs are external or unmerged, so I took their section numbers on the spec's account; the cargo nextest/just verify commands name crates and re 10BC8 cipes that do not exist yet and would require a build (out of bounds here), which is expected of a design promoting a new crate.

Verdict — a well-formed, internally folded and externally consistent spec after its review passes. Nothing a maintainer should act on; recommend merge.

What ran

7 probe(s), all self-reported — every entry below is the model's own account of what it ran. None of it is host-attested, so none of it can gate a blocking verdict.

Verification log

1. grep -oE '^- \*\*MCC-[0-9]{3}\*\*' | wc == 59 (matches PR body) — exit 0 · self-reported

59 requirement entries, matching the PR body's 'Fifty-nine requirements'. Numbering gaps (008/009, 018/019, 025-029, 043-049, 059) were checked against the earliest branch revision and the feat/min-core-wasm-poc POC branch: none of those IDs ever existed, so the sparse numbering is deliberate, not silently dropped requirements.

2. python: every in-text MCC-### resolves to an entry or a recorded retired id — self-reported

Extracted all MCC-### references from the spec body and compared against the 59 entries plus each retired ID the 'Retired identifiers' paragraph records (004, 005, 007, 055, 058, N01-N03). No dangling in-spec reference. Retired IDs are never reused as requirements.

3. git show origin/docs/spec-minimald-mesh-ingress:.../14-spec-minimald-mesh-ingress.md | grep/awk for MMI ids — self-reported

Every MMI id this spec binds by (001, 010, 011, 022, 024, 025, 027, 028, 051, 053, 071, 072, 077) exists as a requirement in the sibling MMI spec on its branch, and I read the texts of the semantically-load-bearing ones: MMI-051 is the repaint, MMI-053 the SUPERSEDED/...@minimal.dev exit signals, MMI-071/077 the relay ticket + key derivation, MMI-027 the browser request ban (MCC-024), MMI-001/072 the WebSocket datagram framing (MCC-012).

4. git cat-file -e origin/feat/min-core-wasm-poc:plans/browser-min-client-direction.plan.md; git ls-tree origin/feat/min-core-wasm-poc plans/ — exit 0 · self-reported

The direction-plan link in the Context (https://github.com/gominimal/minimal/blob/feat/min-core-wasm-poc/plans/browser-min-client-direction.plan.md) resolves: the branch and file both exist on origin. This closes the prior thread's dead-reference concern; the file is absent from this repo's tree, so the blob URL (not a repo-relative link) is the right form.

5. python: parse entry headers + tier/property lines; assert 10 T1 entries each with one property — self-reported

Exactly 10 requirements are tier T1 (006, 030, 032, 034, 036, 038, 040, 041, 042, 078) and each carries exactly one 'property:' line, matching the Tiers design paragraph claim of 'Ten universities are at T1'. Properties for 006/078 are only on the main requirement, not sub-bullets, as claimed.

6. rg secret-pattern scan over docs/specs/13-spec-min-client-core/13-spec-min-client-core.md; gitleaks not installed — self-reported

No tokens, private-key material or credentials in the document. gitleaks is not present in the sandbox (which gitleaks empty), so only a targeted rg over the diff was possible.

7. git log/blame on the spec path; commit dates of HEAD/4a86e6d/49fc5b5 — self-reported

History on the path is the authored series only (add → trim → review responses). No clobber of prior work; not a revert. Frontmatter updated: 2026-09-09 while the three latest edits committed 2026-09-10 00:19-00:20 - the fixture is stale by one day, a nit below the reporting bar.

…roperties

A direct dial whose pipe never opens is cancelled at MCC-011's 20 s from
the dial request, so the relay fallback always starts inside the attach
bound; merged output is defined by channel arrival order alone; the T1
properties of MCC-032 and MCC-038 carry the same non-local transport
condition as their requirements.

minimal-review — advisory review

Verdict COMMENT — COMMENT: policy.actions.request_changes is off; policy.actions.approve is off.

Scope. One new file, docs/specs/13-spec-min-client-core/13-spec-min-client-core.md (945 lines, 59 MCC requirements in six groups, 10 at T1), exactly what the PR says it is. No code, no Cargo.*, no justfile; the .minimal/minimal.toml modification showing in git status is outside the PR's changed files and is not part of this diff.

Clobber. Nothing overwritten - new file. The fixes from the earlier review rounds (the non-local-transport carve-out in MCC-032/038 and the host-trust invariant, the retired scrollback reference, the direction-plan link) are all present at this head, and no resolved thread is re-raised.

Correctness. I verified by structure rather than reading alone: no dangling or reused requirement ids (the retired 004/005/007/055/058/N01-N03 appear only in the Retired identifiers paragraph); tier/property pairing is clean (exactly the ten T1s carry a property, no T0 does); every verify names one test; and the durations cross-check. Two internal inconsistencies survived, both below. Everything else I could check is sound.

Could not check. The Gatehouse section citations and the sibling ids (MMI, WMC, GHS, BPA) live outside this repo and cannot be confirmed here, so I make no claim about them; likewise the named tests do not exist yet (the PR notes the lint's P004 findings for exactly that). No build was run - a docs-only change needs none, and none was available.

What ran

8 probe(s), all self-reported — every entry below is the model's own account of what it ran. None of it is host-attested, so none of it can gate a blocking verdict.

Verification log

1. Enumerate every MCC-NNN token and classify it as definition, reference, or retired (rg + comm) — self-reported

No dangling references and no reused identifiers. Every referenced MCC-NNN is either a requirement heading in the file or one of the retired ids (004, 005, 007, 055, 058, N01-N03), and those appear only inside the 'Retired identifiers' paragraph (lines 804-812). The 'ID never reused' rule holds in this revision.

2. Parse each MCC requirement for tier/property pairing (python3 over the file) — self-reported

59 requirements across six section groups; exactly the 10 T1 requirements carry a property: line, and no T0 requirement carries one, matching the Design reasoning's 'Ten universals are at T1'. No tier is outside T0/T1. The PR body's counts (59 requirements, ten at T1) match.

3. Survey every verify: command prefix and compare with sibling specs / the justfile — self-reported

53 'cargo nextest run -p ' and 23 'just wasm-core-*' lines, all naming one test. No other spec in the tree uses the EARS/tier format, so there is no in-tree precedent to check the command style against; no finding raised on it.

4. Cross-check every duration in the Constants paragraph against its requirement — self-reported

All derivations hold (20 s = four 5 s retries; 20 s dial + 10 s fallback = 30 s attach; 900 s = 15 min; 8 h = 32 x 15 min) except the silent-peer line, where 60 s is called 'twice the 25 s keepalive' (2 x 25 = 50).

5. Confirm the WireGuard keepalive interval cited in the Constants paragraph — self-reported

crates/minimald/src/net/wg.rs:48 defines PERSISTENT_KEEPALIVE: u16 = 25, so the '25 s keepalive' is real and the '60 s is twice' claim is the part that does not hold.

6. Compare the two places the browser v1 command set is enumerated — self-reported

MCC-072 (lines 566-567) lists list/show/rename/stop/version; the working assumption A1 (lines 814-815) lists list/show/attach/rename/stop and cites MCC-072 for it. They differ by one member. 'owner-only' appears in only these two places, so the command set is enumerated nowhere else.

7. Check that the resolved review threads' fixes are present in this revision — self-reported

The non-local-transport carve-out is in MCC-032, MCC-038 and the host-trust invariant (lines 248-251, 315-321, 866-869); the scrollback reference is gone (MCC-061 says the replay requirement is retired, line 450); the direction-plan link points at the proof-of-concept branch (line 22). None of these is re-raised.

8. Read .review/threads.json to avoid re-raising settled points — self-reported

All 14 threads are resolved. The local-transport contradiction, the issuer-set/redirect checks, the ordering rule, the bundle-hash point and the direction-plan link are all already answered by the author or fixed; no finding repeats them.

Verdict COMMENT — COMMENT: policy.actions.request_changes is off; policy.actions.approve is off.

Scope. One new file, docs/specs/13-spec-min-client-core/13-spec-min-client-core.md (947 lines), the MCC spec for the remote-sessions epic's shared client core. Matches the stated intent: six requirement sections (core boundary, transport, attach and RPC, credential, CLI adoption, browser contract) carrying 59 top-level requirements, ten at T1. One body-side slip: the PR body calls them "five groups" while enumerating six; it is in the body only, not the document. Clobber. None — the diff adds one file and nothing else; nothing reverts recent work. Correctness. I re-derived the internal cross-references rather than trusting the doc: every MCC ID referenced resolves to a defined requirement; none of the retired IDs (MCC-004/005/007/055/058/N01–N03) is used live; the ten T1 requirements match the Tiers paragraph's enumeration exactly; the constants story closes (60 = 2×25+10 keepalive margin; 20 = four 5 s WireGuard retries; 20 s direct + 10 s relay = the 30 s attach bound, the 10 s version exchange riding inside the SSH handshake); the local-transport carve-out is consistent across MCC-032/033/038/051 and both properties; the v1 command set is stated once (MCC-072 and A1 agree; attach named separately). Every topic in the recorded threads reads as the author fixed it in the text (49fc5b5, 66857f8, 4a86e6d, 6303740, 7005ea8), so nothing resolved was re-raised. I could not verify anything that needs a build (the wasm-core-headless/cargo nextest verify names) or an external document (Gatehouse section cites, the MMI/WMC/GHS/BPA ID bindings); both are un-checkable here without leaving the diff, and the sibling IDs are intentionally the siblings'. Two nits remain: a grammatical typo in the first acceptance criterion ("an session") and a frontmatter updated date that this very PR makes stale. Otherwise the spec reads carefully and is a good merge.

Verification log

1. grep -nE '^\- \*\*MCC-[0-9]+' and ID cross-reference pass over the spec — self-reported

All 59 top-level requirement IDs enumerated; every MCC ID referenced elsewhere in the doc resolves to a defined requirement; the ten T1 requirements (MCC-006/030/032/034/036/038/040/041/042/078) match the Tiers paragraph's list exactly.

2. grep -nE 'MCC-(004|005|007|055|058|N0[0-9])' — exit 0 · self-reported

Retired IDs appear only in the 'Retired identifiers' paragraph; none is used as a live reference. No dangling or duplicate IDs.

3. read .review/threads.json — self-reported

All 19 threads resolved. The local-transport scope (MCC-032/033/038/051 + both properties), the direction-plan link, the v1 command set (MCC-072 vs working assumption A1), and the 60 s constant arithmetic are fixed in the text under review; nothing from those threads was re-raised.

4. grep -nEi 'TODO|FIXME|XXX|TBD|WIP' — exit 1 · self-reported

No leftover narration, placeholders, or self-referential commentary in the diff.

5. git log --date=short -- docs/specs/13-spec-min-client-core/ — exit 0 · self-reported

Five substantive commits (49fc5b5..7005ea8) landed on 2026-09-10, post-dating the frontmatter's 'updated: 2026-09-09'; confirms finding 2.

6. sed -n '1,10p;44p' on the spec — exit 0 · self-reported

Confirmed anchors: 'updated: 2026-09-09' at line 8 and the 'an session' typo at line 44, both inside the diff (the file is entirely new).

Define all direct-dial failure classes.

MCC-014 names only a refused connection and MCC-011's 20-second timeout. Direct setup can also return DNS, route, reset, or protocol errors. The requirement does not state whether those errors trigger relay fallback or terminate the attach. Different heads can therefore handle the same failure differently.

Define the complete retryable and non-retryable failure set. Add a test for an immediate non-refusal failure.

Bind wildcard principals to the selected node.

MCC-032 requires *.<node_id>.box.<td>, but the T1 property does not define suffix. An implementation can therefore accept an unrelated wildcard, such as *.example.com for host.example.com. Define suffix as the selected node’s <node_id>.box.<td> and test a wildcard from another node or trust domain.

minimal-review — advisory review

Verdict COMMENT — COMMENT: policy.actions.request_changes is off; policy.actions.approve is off.

Scope. One new file, docs/specs/13-spec-min-client-core/13-spec-min-client-core.md (947 lines, MCC, 59 requirements). It matches the stated intent: a new spec, no code, no dependency or lockfile movement. All six requirement groups, the Non-goals destinations and the nine open questions are present as the body describes.

Clobber. The file is new, so there is nothing to revert; the histories of the sibling texts it binds (MMI on docs/spec-minimald-mesh-ingress, GHS on docs/spec-github-sessions) are untouched. The three points raised and fixed earlier in this PR (MCC-032/038 local-transport carve-out, the command set, the 60 s derivation) are all correctly in the tree at this head — I re-checked each rather than trusting the thread.

Correctness. Internal reference integrity is clean: I parsed the document and every MCC-* reference resolves to a defined requirement or to one of the eight IDs the Retired paragraph names; the counts hold (59 requirements, 10 T1, each T1 carrying a property, 76 verify labels with no gaps or duplicates). The external bindings hold too: every cited MMI/GHS ID exists on its spec branch, and the load-bearing ones say what MCC says they say (MMI-053 names all four exit signals, MMI-022 states the same check order and code set, MMI-051 is the repaint). Two repo facts the spec asserts are accurate: minimal-cli is the local-trust username (crates/minimal-client/src/lib.rs:231) and the 25 s keepalive exists (crates/minimald/src/net/wg.rs:48). The direction-plan link resolves on the POC branch. Three findings below; all are contract-level text issues in a document whose whole value is that an implementer can read it literally.

Not checked (would need a build or a document not in this tree). The PR body's spec-lint result (58 P004) and the Gatehouse section citations — Gatehouse, WMC (webapp#763) and WMC-N02 are outside this checkout. Two body-only slips I did not file because they cannot anchor to diff lines: the body says "five groups" and then names six, and says the spec was trimmed "to 929" lines while the file is 947.

What ran

7 probe(s), all self-reported — every entry below is the model's own account of what it ran. None of it is host-attested, so none of it can gate a blocking verdict.

Verification log

1. Parsed the spec: counted top-level requirements, tiers, property lines, verify lines; listed every MCC-* reference and diffed against defined + retired IDs — self-reported

59 top-level requirements, 10 at T1 with properties and 49 at T0; 76 verify labels, none missing, none duplicated; every MCC-* reference resolves to a defined requirement or one of the eight IDs the Retired paragraph names (MCC-004/005/007/055/058/N01-N03). The PR body's 'Fifty-nine' and 'ten at T1' both hold, and the Tiers paragraph's list of ten names exactly the ten T1 requirements.

2. git ls-tree origin/docs/spec-minimald-mesh-ingress and origin/docs/spec-github-sessions; extracted MMI-*/GHS-* IDs and read the cited blocks — self-reported

Every sibling ID MCC cites exists (MMI-001/010/011/022/024/025/027/028/051/053/071/072/077, GHS-006/009). MMI-051 is the repaint, MMI-053 names all four exit signals MCC-065 maps, MMI-022 states the same check order and codes as MCC-034, MMI-011 is the static-table POC interim. The cross-spec claims held.

3. rg in crates/minimal-client, crates/minimald/src/net/wg.rs for the local username and keepalive constant MCC asserts — self-reported

MCC-021's 'minimal-cli under local trust' matches crates/minimal-client/src/lib.rs:231 authenticate_none("minimal-cli"); the 25 s keepalive behind MCC-013's 60 s bound matches crates/minimald/src/net/wg.rs:48 PERSISTENT_KEEPALIVE = 25. Both repo-facts check out.

4. git ls-tree -r origin/feat/min-core-wasm-poc | grep plans/ ; git log --all -- plans/browser-min-client-direction.plan.md — self-reported

The Context's direction-plan link resolves: plans/browser-min-client-direction.plan.md exists on feat/min-core-wasm-poc (commits db9588b..50c610a). The earlier dead-link finding is genuinely fixed.

5. Read MMI-020/021/022/033/034/035 and GHS requirement list; compared MCC-034's decision signature and MCC-032's call site — self-reported

MMI-022's decision takes (certificate, username, clock, trusted User CA keys, revoked serials) and ends its order at principal; MCC-034's property defines a decision over six inputs including principal, while MCC-032 invokes it with five (certificate, anchors, host, now, revoked). The arity/principal mismatch reported below is real and is not a misreading of MMI-022.

6. Counted spec lines and group headings; checked for a spec-number collision with in-flight branches — self-reported

File is 947 lines (PR body says trimmed 'to 929'); the document has six requirement groups (body says five, then names six). Body-only, not anchorable in the diff, so not filed. origin/spec/13-spec-hash-epoch1 also creates a docs/specs/13- spec, but main already carries two '07' specs, so numbering is not enforced and I did not file it.

7. attempted: run spec-lint / build — self-reported

Not run. spec-lint (foundry plugin) is not in this checkout and the review contract forbids cargo build/check/test, so the PR body's '58 P004 findings' claim and the Gatehouse/WMC section citations (external repos) could not be verified. Nothing in the findings depends on them.

The Constants paragraph's attach budget is not jointly satisfiable with the per-phase bounds it cites. It says the 30 s whole-attach bound (MCC-060) "is the handshake bound plus key exchange, authentication and the attach requests", and that "a direct dial that fails at 20 s leaves 10 s for the relay fallback (MCC-014)" — so the fallback leg gets exactly 10 s once MCC-011's 20 s direct dial is spent. But the same paragraph gives the post-connect version exchange 10 s of its own (MCC-006), and MCC-006's bound is a per-connection allowance that need not fire at 1 s: on that reading a conforming daemon may spend the whole remaining 10 s on the version exchange, leaving nothing for key exchange, authentication and the attach requests that MCC-060's 30 s must still contain. MCC-006 permits exactly the case in which MCC-060's kill fires, so the two bounds contradict. Fix is cheap: either state that the sub-phase bounds share the attach budget rather than adding to it, or drop the "leaves 10 s" derivation and bound the fallback leg on its own. (Checked: this is the one sentence in the paragraph whose arithmetic does not close; the 60 s = two 25 s + 10 s and 20 s = four 5 s derivations either side of it are both correct.)

What the reviewer checked

"10 s for the version exchange (MCC-006) and for a credential call (MCC-081), and 30 s for the whole attach (MCC-060), are the handshake bound plus key exchange, authentication and the attach requests, ... a direct dial that fails at 20 s leaves 10 s for the relay fallback (MCC-014)." — against MCC-006 line 110 ("refuse ... one that has not answered within 10 s") and MCC-014 line 161 ("the fallback runs inside MCC-060's attach bound").

MCC-064 defines an exact string vocabulary — the reason's prefix names the stage — but one member breaks the pattern: every other prefix is a stage: token (config:, credential:, version:, transport:, host rejected:, signing:, attach:), while authentication rejected carries no colon, and it is the only two-word member without one besides host rejected: (which has it). The verification this requirement names, attach_rejections_name_the_stage, matches on those prefixes, so an implementer of the browser head and of WMC's consumption has to guess whether the prefix is authentication rejected or authentication rejected: before the first byte is sent. This is one token; making it authentication rejected: (or authentication:) keeps the stage vocabulary uniformly parseable. I checked the rest of the document: no other taxonomy field has this asymmetry, so the fix is local to this line.

MCC-032 and MCC-034 describe the same decision (MCC-032's property tags the call (MCC-034)) with different signatures, so a property test cannot be written from them as stated. MCC-034 (line 283) defines it over six inputs — "certificate, anchor set, expected type, clock, revocation set and principal" — and its refusal order ends at principal. MCC-032 (line 257) invokes it with five, decision(certificate, anchors, host, now, revoked = ∅): no principal argument, and host sits in the expected type slot, which in MCC-034 is the certificate-type discriminator, not a host. MCC-032 then supplies the principal check as a separate conjunct and says the refusal order is "the decision's order first and the principal last", i.e. treats that check as outside the decision. Either the principal belongs in the decision (then MCC-032 must pass it, and its separate wildcard rule has to be stated as an extension of the decision's principal check) or it does not (then MCC-034's order must drop principal and the principal_mismatch code becomes the caller's). Both the decision and its caller are T1 with property tests, so the ambiguity lands directly on the code an implementer writes first. Verified against the daemon side: MMI-022's decision does take the username and ends its order at principal, so the two documents cannot both be read the way MCC-032 reads them.

First verify this against the code yourself. It is model output and
may be wrong. If it is wrong, or the tradeoff was deliberate, say so
and change nothing.

Gatehouse v1.17 and the networking design v0.2 answer the transport
question MCC had deferred: a pinned host's home relay is its Egress
Gateway, forwarding exactly as a relay and admitting clients by the same
ticket (design §4.5).

- MCC-014, MCC-070: a pinned host advertises no direct endpoint and names
its Egress Gateway as home relay; logic unchanged.
- Transport preamble, Siblings, Non-goals, Design reasoning and
Generality cite the networking design by section instead of the
  networking spec in preparation.
- Security considerations gain the forwarder invariant (T29, T30).
- The tunnel-address note cites v1.17's address plan (§6.9).
- Drop the frontmatter status field (the template has none).

Verdict COMMENT — COMMENT: policy.actions.request_changes is off; policy.actions.approve is off.

Scope. One new file, docs/specs/13-spec-min-client-core/13-spec-min-client-core.md (963 lines; the diff hunk matches the file exactly). Content matches the PR's stated intent — the shared MCC client core for epic gominimal/inbox#513 — and nothing outside it. The updated: 2026-09-10 frontmatter is current, and the direction-plan link points at the POC branch (feat/min-core-wasm-poc) per the earlier thread fix.

Clobber. None. Pure addition; the .minimal/minimal.toml modification in this worktree is session-environment state, not part of the PR (changed_files lists only the spec).

Correctness. The load-bearing numbers check out against the tree and against each other: 59 requirements / ten T1 / nine open questions as the PR body states; the Constants derivations hold (60 s silent-peer = 2×25 s keepalive + 10 s margin against wg.rs's 25 s; 20 s = four 5 s retries; 30 s attach ≈ 20 s handshake + key-exchange/auth/attach; 900 s exchange = 15 min; 480 min ÷ 15 min = the "up to 32" renewal chain). Every internal MCC reference resolves to a defined requirement or appears only in the Retired-identifiers paragraph. In-tree claims I could verify fresh: the CLI does shell out to the system ssh for TTY attach today (MCC-052's interim premise, crates/minimal/src/lib.rs:3761, crates/minimal-client/src/attach.rs:108); it authenticates over the local socket as minimal-cli (MCC-021, crates/minimal-client/src/lib.rs:231); and there is no credential plane in the CLI (Context). One new inconsistency: MCC-053 binds min net mesh join <network> while the CLI's existing — and evidently same — mesh command is min mesh join, with no net group anywhere (finding below). Minor: the frontmatter drops the status field that the template and every sibling spec carry (status: draft), so a merged reader can't tell the spec's lifecycle state from the field corpus convention.

Not checked. The cited external documents (Gatehouse §5.3–§8.2, WMC, MMI, GHS, BPA, the arch networking design) are not in this tree, and their section/ID claims need them to verify. The named verify: tests and just wasm-core* recipes do not exist yet by design (the PR's own spec-lint P004 findings are the to-do list), so those were taken as promises, not reality. No build was run, per the review contract.

What ran

11 probe(s), all self-reported — every entry below is the model's own account of what it ran. None of it is host-attested, so none of it can gate a blocking verdict.

Verification log

1. rg '^\+- \*\*MCC-' .review/pr.diff | wc -l — exit 0 · self-reported

Counted 59 requirement headers in the diff, matching the PR body's 'Fifty-nine requirements'.

2. rg '^\+ tier: T1' .review/pr.diff | wc -l — exit 0 · self-reported

Counted 10 T1 requirements, matching the Design-reasoning 'Ten universals are at T1'.

3. rg -o 'MCC-[0-9]+' docs/specs/13-spec-min-client-core/13-spec-min-client-core.md | sort | uniq -c — exit 0 · self-reported

Every internal MCC reference resolves to a defined requirement or sits in the Retired-identifiers paragraph (MCC-004/005/007/055/058); no dead references to never-allocated IDs.

4. sed -n '55,175p;340,400p' crates/minimal/src/lib.rs — exit 0 · self-reported

The CLI command enum has no net group; the mesh command is top-level min mesh join/leave/status with verbatim usage examples (lib.rs:387-389), gated behind the remote-access feature.

5. rg -n 'min net mesh join' docs/specs/13-spec-min-client-core/13-spec-min-client-core.md — exit 0 · self-reported

MCC-053 at line 396 is the only occurrence of the min net mesh join spelling in the file.

6. rg -n 'PERSISTENT_KEEPALIVE' crates/minimald/src/net/wg.rs — exit 0 · self-reported

Daemon persistent keepalive is 25 s (wg.rs:48), so the Constants paragraph's 60 s = 2×25 s + 10 s margin derivation holds; the earlier 50 s finding was already fixed.

7. rg -n 'authenticate_none' crates/minimal-client/src/lib.rs — exit 0 · self-reported

Current local transport authenticates as the minimal-cli username (lib.rs:231), consistent with MCC-021 under local trust.

8. rg -n 'Command::new\("ssh"\)|Command::new\("ssh ' crates/minimal/src crates/minimal-client/src — exit 0 · self-reported

The CLI shells out to the system ssh for attach (minimal/src/lib.rs:3761, minimal-client/src/attach.rs:108), so MCC-052's 'WHILE the TTY attach still runs through the system ssh' premise is true today.

9. wc -l docs/specs/13-spec-min-client-core/13-spec-min-client-core.md — exit 0 · self-reported

963 lines, matching the diff hunk; the only non-ASCII characters are legitimate typography (§, —, ∈, ⇔, ∧, ‖, ∅).

10. rg -c 'NEEDS CLARIFICATION' docs/specs/13-spec-min-client-core/13-spec-min-client-core.md — exit 0 · self-reported

Nine open questions (7 MEDIUM, 2 LOW), matching the PR body's 'Nine'.

11. Read .review/threads.json and compare against finding list — self-reported

Reviewed every existing thread before writing findings; nothing 10BC8 here re-raises a resolved/replied-to point (local-transport carve-out, direction-plan link, keepalive derivation, an session verbatim story, A1 command set, updated date), and the five unresolved threads (MCC-014 failure classes, wildcard suffix, attach-budget joint satisfiability, MCC-064 colon, MCC-032/034 decision signature) are left to the discussion already open on them.

MCC-053 binds the invocation min net mesh join <network>, but the requirement is the specified evolution of a command that already exists under a different name. The CLI's mesh command is today min mesh join / min mesh leave / min mesh status (crates/minimal/src/lib.rs, Command::Mesh → MeshCommand, with verbatim usage examples "min mesh join mesh.example.com:51820" at lib.rs:387-389); MCC-053's "with no manual key exchange (the daemon's static peer table is the POC interim, MMI-011)" describes exactly the current command's behavior (its doc comment: "v1 uses manual key exchange: this records the target and prints the steps to swap public keys"). There is no net group in the CLI command enum, and neither this spec nor the PR notes renaming or relocating min mesh into one, so an implementer of MCC-053 must either contradict the documented surface or invent a group nothing else in the CLI-adoption group references. Fix by keeping the binding on the existing min mesh join, or state the net-group restructure explicitly.

Suggested change

SHALL request a Gatehouse §6.9 binding and consume the peer document
Bind the existing command name: MCC-053 WHEN a developer runs `min mesh join <network>` THE SYSTEM SHALL request a Gatehouse §6.9 binding ... (and, if a `min net` group is actually planned, say so where the CLI surface is described instead of silently changing the name).
What the reviewer checked
  • MCC-053 WHEN a developer runs min net mesh join <network> THE SYSTEM SHALL request a Gatehouse §6.9 binding and consume the peer document through the credential module, with no manual key exchange (the daemon's static peer table is the POC interim, MMI-011) — vs. crates/minimal/src/lib.rs MeshCommand::Join doc: "min mesh join mesh.example.com:51820" and "v1 uses manual key exchange: this records the target and prints the steps to swap public keys."

I don't like calling this a "shared core" because it's not really the core of minimal itself. It's really just a client-side library that can be compiled to WASM and provides common functionality for all clients. That's a nit though and doesn't change the design itself.

Prerequisite to this, I think we need to formalize the API between the client and minimald and then this would be implemented as a library crate that implements the client side of that API. That doesn't mean rewriting everything, but I think there would need to be considerable amount of refactoring and cleanup as part of the process. Anything this new crate depends on would need to have it's dependencies untangled in such a way that it can be built as WASM. That might not end up being that difficult, but I think it's still an unknown at this point.

That's really just context though and is out of scope for this spec I think.

One listing across every reachable provider, and one grammar for acting
on what it holds, are BDP-005 and BDP-006. MCC-054 keeps its own claim —
the identity plane's nodes are among the sessions listed — and cites
them for the rest.
