I’m really disappointed with Years dog…

I’m really disappointed with Years dog food and wish I’d realised sooner that the food was the problem.

While my dog was eating Years, she was regularly vomiting, having mucus covered stools and occasionally suffering from an upset stomach. For a long time I would never have thought the food itself was causing it, but by July I just felt that something wasn’t right and decided to stop feeding it altogether when she went off the food and didn't want to eat it.

I’d also had quite a few deliveries where some of the food looked extremely oily, and on more than one occasion it arrived mouldy, which really concerned me given how the food is marketed and priced.

Since stopping Years, she has now been on Marleybones for well over a month and has been absolutely thriving. No vomiting, no mucus stools and no stomach issues whatsoever.

Then to find out that Years has since recalled its fresh meals while investigating reports of dogs developing sudden, severe dry eye was genuinely alarming. Reading about so many dogs developing such painful and serious eye problems is awful, and I really feel for the owners dealing with it.

Looking back, I really wish I’d switched her food sooner. Based on my experience, I would never feed Years to my dog again and I certainly wouldn’t recommend it to anyone else.

Paying £150 a month for my two small…

Paying £150 a month for my two small fur babies to be on the best food, and to get as they claim "extra years" with your dog. A premium brand food that changed ingredients to cheap contaminated rubbish to give an even bigger profit margin. Even with %80 growth in a year of bussiness wasn't enough for this greedy company. Now there are dogs that have been put to sleep. Dogs have lost there eye balls. And dogs are blind. The ingredient change was never communicated properly. As they have admitted. It is like a pi** up in a brewery. Also the owner is the one responsible for the product recall on muscle food when he worked with that brand. Do not touch this company

Mouldy food with questionable ethics

Mouldy food was delivered multiple times whilst I was a customer. This appears to happen to many subscribers.

The company cannot be trusted. Having to recall the product is bad enough but they actually are still selling treats on Amazon weeks after the recall.

The founder was on the board and an investor of All About Dog Food which has rated it highly. It’s unethical

It’s not just a recall it’s the ethics of the company that is questionable. I have exp

Poor dog food

I would give no stars if I could. A company who cares more about their profit than that of the dogs eating the food it would appear. I feel they are dishonest and get away with what they can do. Yes my dog was eating years at time of the recent recall. I truly hope their behaviour catches up with them!

More interested in their profit margins

I am currently one of thousands of people who's dogs are suffering from dry eye due to them changing an ingredient from quinoa to buckwheat as its ¼ of the price. I was not informed of this change like many others.
Due to complications from an ulcer, Bruno had to have an eye removed in July and we are currently battling to save his other one. We are still waiting for Years to commit to covering our vets bills, which since May when it all started has cost us more than £3k.
Who is covering his ongoing medication, vets visits and increased insurance premiums due to this?
We went with Years because of their rating. It now turns out that the CEO of years owns the holding company the owns All About Dog Food, the ratings site. Slight conflict of interest.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY IF YOU LOVE YOUR ANIMAL.
Would've given them 0 if that was an option. You can tell the people who are paid to leave reviews on here 🤬

Two of my dogs have now got life long conditions due to this dog food. Both diagnosed KCS and both very poorly. I have been completely stonewalled by Years and for those saying ‘everyone has problems now and again’ come see my dogs and see how much they are suffering because I trusted this company. Please do not ever buy from them. One of my dogs may loose her eyes because of this! I have received nothing but generic emails from them with not one of them being helpful. I will continue to fight for my dogs and I will not stop until years step up and take responsibility for the harm they have caused. Do not let people downplay this!

Do not appreciate being lied to.Recent recall for suspected contamination that possibly resulted in severe eye disorders that are likely to be life long, resulting in pain and discomfort for all the hundreds of dogs affected and the expensive, on going vet bills. The worst dog food ever it has gave my dog dry eye I’ve paid thousands of pounds in vet bills and there’s hundreds of dogs been affected. I hope you never trade again. You have ruined so many dogs lives over this and you’ve not even offered to pay the vet bills. Shame on you and shame on your company.

I do not recommend years to anyone

I do not recommend years to anyone, months ago when my dog first tried this food she was absolutely fine, she loved the food so that was not a problem however month after month she was losing a significant amount of weight. I was very worried and thought she was seriously ill , the vet asked me what she was eating and referred us to the nutritionist at our local vet who advised against keeping her on this brand and suggested to go back to kibble. My dog was eating what years has advised based on her age, breed and energy levels, she was eating a BIG portion every single day which was super expensive and obviously not worth it. I don't think we can trust the nutritional value they show on their labels and after all that has happened I'm 100% convinced that all they sell is a lie. Not to say that I've received packages full of mould.

Sadly will not be returning to Years…

Sadly will not be returning to Years after the recent recall.
I made the switch to Years thinking that a pantry fresh food would tie in well with a gut microbiome reset.

In light of the increasing number of cases coming to light I tried to cancel a forthcoming order and my subscription and actually received a WhatsApp from one of the group’s co-founders.

I was contacted prior to the recall with a courier reference to send what remained of my order for testing.
Later that night Years recalled everything.

People asking for refunds *after* I had been in contact before the recall were getting their refunds.

It all became a little chaotic as the scale of the issue began to be clear.

I eventually got my refunds, transitioning my dog onto another food and had her eyes tested - tear production a little low especially in one eye.

Not really sure how a company can come back from something so catastrophic to dogs and their owners.

No one wins here.

While ongoing laboratory testing has…

While ongoing laboratory testing has not yet delivered a final verdict, veterinary scientists and toxicologists are investigating three primary biological mechanisms that explain why buckwheat—or a specific contaminated batch of it—could trigger sudden dry eye and ocular damage in dogs.
Light-Activated Plant Compounds (Fagopyrins)
Buckwheat plants naturally contain chemical compounds called fagopyrins. When ingested, these compounds enter the bloodstream and travel throughout the body, including the delicate vessels supplying the eyes.
* Fagopyrins are phototoxic, meaning they remain harmless in the dark but react aggressively when exposed to sunlight or bright light.
* Because the eyes are constantly exposed to ambient light, activated fagopyrins can generate unstable molecules (free radicals) that break down cellular membranes.
* This localized tissue breakdown can damage the lacrimal (tear-producing) glands and clear surface tissue of the eye, causing inflammation and halting tear production.
Hull and Plant Material Contamination
Pure, fully refined buckwheat grain contains relatively low levels of natural toxins. However, the green leaves, stems, and outer husks (hulls) of the buckwheat plant carry heavy concentrations of phototoxins.
* If a supplier processes whole buckwheat without thoroughly removing the outer hulls, or if crop harvesting accidentally mixes in green plant debris, the toxin concentration in the final dog food increases significantly.
* Processing methods like low-temperature cooking can leave these natural toxins fully active rather than breaking them down.
Immune System Overreaction
Buckwheat contains unique storage proteins that are potent triggers for the immune system. In certain dogs, ingesting these proteins can provoke an aggressive, systemic allergic response.
* Instead of a simple skin itch, this immune reaction can mistake the proteins in tear gland tissues for foreign invaders.
* White blood cells swarm the tear glands, causing acute swelling that blocks fluid secretion and damages the gland cells responsible for keeping the eyes lubricated.

Changed key ingredients without properly informing owners. As a result my Border Terrier suffered health issues. If they had correctly told everyone about this at the time, not just with a tiny blog post that hardly anyone was aware of, could have informed my vets and saved months of suffering and vet bills.
