Staff do not understand the fundamental difference between legal ownership/registered keeper

How can staff not know the difference between being the registered keeper of a vehicle and being the legal owner.
When buying the car the dealership lied stating even though I was buying on a PCP I would be both the legal owner and the registered keeper. This question is asked by many insurers when you seek insurance and getting it wrong might impact cover.
I settled the finance agreement early. A week later I called and spoke with an agent asking where was the confirmation I had been promised after effecting settlement.
She told me she would send via email, I asked specifically did that document confirm that having settled the finance agreement I would become the legal owner she said yes. Document received, it did not.
I then sent secure message to TFS explaining the position and get note back telling me to contact the DVLA to get new V5C showing me as the "Registered Keeper". I have the V5C showing me as the registered keeper that form clearly states the V5C is not
"PROOF OF OWNERSHIP"
Am not sure what training is given by either dealerships or by TFS to staff but clearly it is inadequate.
TFS you state ownership of the vehicle during the finance period sits with you in the circumstances once the finance agreement is settled then basic common sense suggests you should write to the "owner" and confirm:
1, that finance is paid off and that any reference to TFS will be removed from the credit reference agencies
2, that you no longer have ownership of nor any financial interest in that vehicle.
So please review the training you provide to teach your staff the basics and update your communications to properly deal with these matters.
I am still awaiting written confirmation from TFS that I am the legal owner so that I can update my insurance company accordingly.
Oh and where the dealership lied about me being the legal owner and the registered keeper when I told my insurance company that TFS were the legal owners and I was the registered keeper it did increase my premium. It was a trivial amount however the dealership told me i was wrong! Sorry I was the one speaking with the insurance company so whilst it was only small amount it may have had an impact upon a claim.
So to all of those reading this with car finance via PCP I suggest you:
1, check who is the legal owner you or your finance company
2, if the finance company & you have told your insurer you are both registered keeper & legal owner you advise your insurer to avoid any possible issues in the event of a claim.
Update 20th July
TFS have sent me yet another letter telling me agreement is complete. Simply a rehash of document sent before which fails to confirm transfer legal ownership or that they no longer have financial interest in the car.
Interesting too in that TFS neither respond to these posts offering to help nor have they responded to my formal complaint email. It seems to prove like so many comments on here that whilst hard product is reasonable the company falls badly short on customer service once they have taken your money.
Update 22 July
Still awaiting any form of response from Toyota, perhaps they believe by ignoring it, the complaint will go away!

Yaris Cross self charging…

I've had a Yaris Cross self charging hybrid for two and a half years now.
The tiny 12v battery won't hold a charge for more than two days without locking me out and needing the AA.
I am now paranoid about keeping it charged and worrying about it going flat again.
Utterly unreliable and inadequate tiny 12v battery.
Even with a solar maintainer connected it lets me down.
Sick of all the hassle
Even the app didn't work to see if there were any issues!!!

New car from Toyota

I recently purchased a Yaris Cross from Steven Eagell Toyota Wolverhampton with the help of Abdul Rehman, he was very courteous, friendly and helpful spent a lot of time to get the best deal available. Ten out of ten for his time and patience. This is the third Toyota I have had and all three have been reliable and enjoyable to drive, I personally cannot fault them.

Toyota Assistance Policy Heads Up

My partner has had the Toyota Assistance policy since purchasing his Yaris some ten years ago. Unfortunately, due to an accident, his car was written off recently. When I contacted them for a partial refund of the annual premium as it was not transferable, unless it was to another Toyota, I was met with the standard corporate terms and conditions speech. Despite him being a loyal customer, i was not able to secure anything as a gesture of goodwill.
So think before you purchase this policy.

After waiting 1 hour. Your service is DISGRACEFUL. Please train your staff correctly on how to speak with members of the public.
I would never buy another car. Toyota sales better not call me to upgrade my car!!

Wrong doings by Toyota Staff

After part exchanging my Toyota for a newer model, unfortunately, during the swap, a couple of items amounting to approx £10.00 were left in my old car. At the time my salesman Jake Duggan assured me that if they were to find anything THEY would return.....NOT the case!!! SHAME on you and whoever took the items. The items were both new and would not have been thrown out as suggested by Jake.

Very poor warranty handling by Toyota…

Very poor warranty handling by Toyota GB.

I took my Toyota Proace, a 2024 van with approximately 40,500 miles on it, into RRG Toyota Stockport with an engine management light and a dashboard message saying “engine fault, repair required.”

RRG Stockport told me the van needed a new DPF at around £3,000, which would not be covered under warranty. They also identified an AdBlue injector fault, which was accepted as covered under warranty.

I disputed the DPF diagnosis because the van was driving normally, with no limp mode, no loss of power and no DPF warning light. I also did not feel I had been given proper evidence to support a £3,000 DPF replacement.

I obtained independent checks, which showed the DPF was working normally and that the issue was with the AdBlue injector.

Despite this, Toyota GB continued to rely on the original dealer diagnosis and said any further Toyota diagnostic assessment may be chargeable. I had already paid once for a diagnostic that I believe led to the wrong conclusion.

The warranty-covered injector repair was never completed through Toyota. I have now had the van repaired independently by cleaning the AdBlue injector. The repair cost £80. The warning lights have cleared and no fault codes are now showing.

This is my business van, so the whole process has cost me time, money and disruption. It involved numerous emails and phone calls over around 10 days, only for Toyota GB to issue a final response and leave me to take the matter to The Motor Ombudsman.

Toyota GB has issued its final response and I have referred the matter to The Motor Ombudsman. I am also considering reporting the matter via Citizens Advice/Trading Standards due to my concerns about the accuracy and justification of the original diagnosis.

In my opinion, Toyota GB’s warranty process failed me. I was left facing a possible £3,000 repair bill when the actual issue was resolved by cleaning the AdBlue injector for £80.

Had a great experience buying a new car…

Had a great experience buying a new car from Toyota York (Clifton) with Adam.

Firstly, he was one of the only people in the dealerships we visited that day that spoke to me and not my husband, and as I was buying the car that was important. I was surprised that others had not worked that out.

He was friendly, clear about what was available, when and all the options and not pushy. A good salesman makes a difference and he did. From test drive to purchase I was impressed and pleased with the car and staff. Still happy - car is great, quality product.

My worst Toyota purchase

I purchased a 23 plate Toyota Highlander from the Milton Keynes dealership at the end January 2026. The car was handed over to at Letchworth Steven Eagell, being my local dealership. The salesman confirmed the car had full MOT and service carried out before my sales was completed. He did not raise any concerns with me regarding the vehicle at any point.
In March, I received a letter from Toyota HQ asking me to contact my local dealership to book the car in for 'recall repairs'. During this time the UK was experiencing high weather temperatures. I turned on the air conditioning function in my new car, only for it to blow out hot air!
When booking my car in for the recall repairs, I asked the service manager if they could look into this for me.
The recall repairs were completed in May. The service manager advised there appeared to be damage to the air-conditioning pipe, hence, it blowing out hot air. I queried how that could have happened when I had just purchased the vehicle. The service manager advised they would need to contact Toyota Milton Keynes for advice, and whether the repair or replacement of the pipes could be completed under the warranty. Several weeks past by, with the weather temperature increasing by the day. Letchworth Toyota reported the Milton Keynes dealership would not contribute or repair the faulty air conditioning system, and I would need to take the car to Milton Keynes for them to reassess it.
When speaking to the Milton Keynes service manager, I queried why I would have to take it to their dealership. To my horror, they reported would need to do their own assessment of the vehicle. I questioned whether Toyota technicians and mechanics were trained to the same standards, to which they reported, they could not be sure.
I asked for the Milton Keynes sales manager to contact me, because I did not receive the vehicle advertised. I have called numerous times, leaving verbal messages with staff members, but I have not received a response.
I would like this matter addressed urgently.

Excellent customer service

Excellent customer service, from Steve Lindsey at Vantage Toyota York. Steve has been a mainstay service rep, at York for 11 years, and he has an excellent personality, sense of humour, and very knowledgeable. The work carried out on the car, which included an intermediate service and MOT, was the usual good standard carried out by the mechanic. I am always pleased by the service received from Toyota, and have been a customer for almost thirty years.
If I was to complain about one thing, it is not the service, but the new customer reception lounge. It seems all the previous customer atmosphere, and relationship with the service desk staff, seems to have been lost. Personally I am not a big fan of the new lounge, and preferred the old style one. To be honest I would think many regular customers, would possibly feel the same.

Nice car, shame about the user manual scam

When I went to collect my new car a month after ordering it, I was told that the user manual was digital. I couldn't see how I could consult a digital manual at my computer in the house at the same time as looking at all the buttons and options in the car. I was then told that I could order a paper manual and was a bit annoyed to find that it was on a 4 week delivery. After much chasing, it finally arrived 10 weeks later, without the multimedia manual. They tried to sting me £40 for that, again on a 4 week lead time. What a scam!
Customer service basically told me to get lost when I raised it with them.
I would advise anyone buying a new Toyota not to hand over the money until the user manuals are with it at no extra charge.

2025 Land Cruiser Invincible - Severe Sunroof Leak, Electrical Risk & Unhelpful Toyota

In we bought a new 2025 Land Cruiser Invincible, lured by Toyota’s reputation of quality and its warranty.

However, after a heavy downpour overnight, we woke up to severe water ingress. The carpets are completely soaked, and alarmingly, water is actively leaking directly out of the driver’s side control panel (specifically around the fuel tank opening switch).

What makes this incredibly frustrating is that during our first service, we explicitly pointed out that the sunroof seal had come loose. The dealership checked it, told us everything was perfectly fine, and simply pushed it back into place.

We contacted the dealer to get it fixed, and their response has been awful: a 4-week wait for an appointment, no courtesy car, and a demand for an upfront inspection fee. I escalated the issue directly to Toyota UK, expecting the manufacturer to step in and override the dealership. Unbelievably, Toyota UK was just as unhelpful as the dealer itself, leaving us completely stranded with a leaking, brand-new flagship vehicle.

In the meantime, I’ve done some digging and found out the following:
1. According to Toyota's own parts guidelines, that faulty sunroof seal we highlighted at the first service should never have just been "pushed back in." The part is strictly marked as single-use and cannot be reused/reinstalled. They should have replaced it entirely.

2. This is not just a matter of a wet carpet. Because water poured out of the lower dashboard switches, it means it has traveled all the way down the inside of the A-pillar, right past critical wiring harnesses. There is a high risk of galvanic corrosion and damage to the electrics over time.

3. A proper fix isn't just air-drying the car. It will involve exposing, inspecting, and properly drying out all these hidden electrics, plus completely replacing the carpet underlay to avoid mould.

I am curious whether Toyota will actually undertake a proper repair this time or just try to push the seal back in again. In the meantime, I no longer have the certainty of a solid, reliable car. Instead, I have to live in constant fear that the compromised electronics will cause it to break down at the most inconvenient moment.

Honestly, we only switched to Toyota because of their presumed superior quality and durability …

Premier Toyota Llandudno Junction…

Premier Toyota Llandudno Junction horrible garage, I brought a second hand Toyota from this garage 2025 failed Mot within the year with 15 advisories, I called them to try and sell the car back to them, they ignored my calls and emails for a week (they are quick enough to contact you when you want to buy a car ) finally spoke to someone who said that the car was too old for them to buy it back, well the rust bucket car was good enough when they sold it to me less than a year ago for over £5k, im so shocked by how they can treat people and get away with this. And the warranty is not worth the paper it is written on and that company then want £260 to renew with them, what a laugh they must be having running away to the bank with peoples money, I have lost 4k to this car in the space of a year and will be taking this further to the ombudsman, I brought this Toyota car from a Toyota garage thinking I would be looked after but what an awful experience.

Toyota’s Relax Warranty – Failure to Honour Coverage

Toyota’s Relax Warranty – Failure to Honour Coverage
We have consistently serviced three vehicles at a main Toyota dealership in Reading for over 20 years. Despite an increase in service costs, we chose to remain with the authorised dealership in order to benefit from Toyota’s extended 10-year Relax Warranty.
It is therefore particularly disappointing that, when the vehicle’s condenser failed—an item explicitly listed as covered under the warranty—the dealership advised that Toyota GB had declined to authorise the replacement. I subsequently contacted Toyota GB Customer Services directly, and while they confirmed that the claim would not be approved, they were unable to provide a satisfactory explanation despite multiple requests for clarification.
As a result, I have escalated this matter to the Motor Ombudsman, as I have paid for an extended warranty that Toyota GB are not honouring. Furthermore, it appears that other customers have experienced similar issues, which raises concerns regarding the reliability of Toyota’s Relax Warranty and its associated marketing claims.

Low mileage Yaris Cross with shock absorber fault at 22k

I recently had an issue with my 2022 Toyota Yaris Cross, which at only 23,000 miles received an MOT advisory for a weeping rear shock absorber. The vehicle is carefully driven, well maintained, and has been fully serviced through the Toyota Servicing Plan since new, so I was disappointed to experience this issue on a relatively low-mileage vehicle.

I would, however, like to recognise the excellent customer service provided by the team at Snows Toyota. Throughout the process they were professional, supportive and helpful, and I could not fault their approach.

Toyota ultimately agreed to contribute 50% towards the replacement and fitting costs. While I appreciated the contribution, I was disappointed that the repair was not fully covered given the age, mileage and full Toyota service history of the vehicle. One of the reasons I chose Toyota was its reputation for reliability and customer support, so the overall experience has left me reconsidering whether I would choose or recommend Toyota again in the future.

Overall, excellent service from the dealership team, but a disappointing outcome from Toyota itself.

Awful

Awful! Toyota cars used to be the most reliable, best built cars by far. Their customer service " WAS" second to none. Not anymore. I have a 2018 CHR. The headlights are " peeling" This is apparently well known problem but Toyota refuse to do a recall. Customers left with ugly, mot failing headlights. A new pair of headlights fitted by them quoted at nearly 3 grand!!! Will they do anything about it....No. So, spend a fortune, if something goes wrong.....your problem! I was going to trade in and buy a brand new hybrid from them next year. Not anymore! I'll be taking my money elsewhere. Well done Toyota! You've just thrown the best part of a 60 to 70k sale away !!
