Another case of discrimination in the banks of Germany
As stated before me, a horrible bank. One that discriminates based on ethnic origins (against the law in Germany). I have been to Hamburg, Buxtehude, and Stade Commerzbank's locations and all have blatantly said that because I am an American (US) they would not open an account with me. It seems Germany is no different than the US in that they get upset with others for doing the same thing they do to people in their own country, violate their "rights"!
Very negative experience
Very negative experience. No customer service at all. It takes weeks and days to respond via email. In case of any specific requests, employees are not supportive at all. They simply don’t care. If you need any support in English, employees on the phone are extremely rude. Overall waiting time on the line lasts minimum 40 minutes. In the affiliates employees are highly incompetent and provide incorrect information. Once I decided to close my account they charged me the fees that were not supposed to. And nobody ever explained what they were exactly for. If you have a chance to open a bank account with any other bank I would recommend to AVOID Commerzbank.
Was contacting commerzbank customer…
Was contacting commerzbank customer support on the phone to understand why my account is blocked. The customer support representative just dropped the phone when I asked to repeat the last step on what to do to activate the account. Poor service.
Most of their branches don't offer cash…
Most of their branches don't offer cash services anymore. Than I tried to call their customer service, first their automated answering machine doesn't understand "Filialsuche mit Kassenbedienung", and also wanted all my account information just to talk to someone to ask for the closest branch with cash services. And now the best part. I called three times and each time I sat in line waiting for 30 mins with no answer, before they just dropped my call. And their chat options on their website also don't offer resolve. Also waited there actively for about 15 mins with no response and checked again after an hour - still no response. Not even "is gonna be another minute or so". This was all within their business hours. If they don't want tellers anymore or customer service, they could just install ATMs that can also exchange coin rolls, like some other banks have.
Unreliable and Poor Customer Support
I had been using my Commerzbank card with Apple Pay for regular payments without any issues—until suddenly, they blocked and deactivated my card without warning. This left me in a very difficult situation. To make matters worse, no one from their call center responded to my attempts to contact them.
Avoid this bank at all costs. It’s unreliable, and in critical moments, you might find yourself completely unsupported.
----
Commerzbank: Fees, Incompetence, and Pure Frustration
First of all, Trust pilot needs to develop a zero star rating system for companies like this. Because CommerzBank is absolutely Zero
Where do I start from ?
Terrible Customer Service
Customer service in Germany is usually terrible, Commerzbank takes it a notch further. The customer care agents hardly resolve any problems, they are generally unavailable, grossly incompetent and they don’t care. I really don’t know how people can work like that - I will be embarrassed to work in Commerzbank
Stupid Fees
Everything comes at a fee. While I do not generally have any problems with the fees, the quality of service offered by the banks makes the fee a total rip off and it is. Account management fees are absolute trash
Blocked Funds with No Accountability
Now let’s talk about the real scandal: Commerzbank’s tendency to hold your money hostage without valid reason. I had over €1,500 stuck due to failed Apple Pay transactions—money that should’ve been released automatically within a few days. Instead, I was left chasing their useless customer service for over a week with no resolution, no explanation, and no sense of urgency. It’s your money, but they act like they own it.
Dinosaur Banking in 2025
In an era where fintechs and even traditional banks are upgrading their systems for speed and transparency, Commerzbank is still stuck in the 90s. Maybe Commerzbank was great in the 80s and 90s, well it’s 2025 and I don’t think the softwares have undergone any upgrade since then. Their app is buggy, their processes are painfully slow, and they hide behind “procedures” instead of solving problems.
Zero Accountability, Zero Shame
What’s worse? No apologies. No proactive communication. You’re expected to just sit tight while they mishandle your funds, and when you push back, they act like you’re the problem.
⸻
Bottom Line:
If you’re thinking of banking with Commerzbank, don’t. There are better, faster, and more competent banks out there. This is by far the worst banking experience I’ve had anywhere in the world.
This is probably the worst bank in…
This is probably the worst bank in Germany. I have preferred to lose 6000€ on accounts that I haven't recommended to 60 students coming to Germany, than to recommend this shit bank! They charge you for the most ridiculous things
Extremely disgusting customer support…
Extremely disgusting customer support and rude, unprofessional staff. I request there should be atleast "1 member in every Bank branch" who is open to speaking in English if required and guiding the customers through.
Technical difficulties
We have a business bank account with Commerzbank - we pay a premium fee for the worst service I have ever experienced at a bank (and I have dealt with quite a few). There are frequent technical difficulties, meaning on some days we simply can't pay any bills or check if our customers have paid us. We can't even check our balance. It is embarrassing for us and it should be embarrasing for this bank, but the technical problems happen so frequently that one can only assume they are either grossly incompetent or they just don't really care if their customers can't access their money from time to time. Our other bank which has no account keeping fees has not had a single outtage that we have noticed in years. We have started migrating away from the Commerzbank now...
collapse internet banking
24.3.25 in the morning: The online banking doesn't work at the opening of the markets. It is now 1400 and the clowns still haven't worked it out. Don't think this is the first time. They have a extremely weak system which collapses almost on a daily basis. Their rating on this site is 1,4 out of 5. This has been so for a very long time. Do these people have no shame? It is a gigantic clown show over there. And we all know what they will do when the market collapses: no internet banking. They sell their shares and you hold the bag.
they charged me crazy fees for using my…
they charged me crazy fees for using my debit card outside of Germany, while this was never clarified to me.
Terrible communication
I would like to share my experience with their HR team. They will approach you for an interview but then simply ghost you if you suggest any other date. After that, they dissappear like they have never existed. Then you try to reach out to them, they reject you. The communication is very poor and I highly doubt they provide any quality service.
Rude bank
After sending 29 emails of asking our bank statements, we received them.
Very hard to work with. Stuck in 19th century bank
Commerzbank: Where Rudeness Is a Core Value
Ah, Commerzbank. The shining beacon of customer service excellence... if excellence were defined by rudeness, condescension, and a steadfast commitment to making you regret ever reaching out.
I had the pleasure (read: nightmare) of dealing with Olaf from their online customer service. A name that conjures images of warm hugs and friendly snowmen but delivers the conversational equivalent of a winter blizzard. From the get-go, Olaf was curt, dismissive, and seemed to be personally offended by my existence.
After an unproductive exchange, I politely requested to speak to his supervisor—a reasonable request, right? Not in Olaf's world! He flatly refused, as if supervisors are mythical creatures that Commerzbank employees guard like the Holy Grail. I asked again, nicely. Refused. Again, firmly. Refused. The man has the determination of a toddler refusing vegetables.
When I politely (!) pointed out his rudeness, he took it to a new level: rudely denying that he was rude. The irony! I half expected him to send me a follow-up message saying, “Have a blessed day,” just to add that final passive-aggressive cherry on top.
This was, without question, the worst customer service experience I’ve had in years—and I’ve dealt with utility companies! Honestly, if the rumors of an Italian bank taking over Commerzbank are true, I say bring it on. How much worse could it possibly get? At least with Italians, I’d probably get a charming apology and a recipe for risotto.
Disappointing customer support
Treatment of customers on the call center line is unprofessional. Snarky and sarcastic comments by the operator even though I waited 25 minutes on the call to have my question answered. I also tried reaching out via other methods (chat, email) but those were not helpful either.
💬 Frustrated with Commerzbank's Service…
💬 Frustrated with Commerzbank's Service 💬
I have been a customer of Commerzbank for several years, but my recent experiences have left me deeply dissatisfied. Here is a summary of the key issues:
1️⃣ Charges for a Supposedly Free Account:
I opened an account that was meant to be free (BasicKonto), yet I have been charged monthly fees comparable to those of a KlassikKonto. A few years ago, I reached out via email to request either a waiver of these fees or an upgrade to match the value of the charges. My request was ignored—there was no response whatsoever. In my home country, banks at least make an effort to engage with dissatisfied customers or provide a solution. Unfortunately, the level of indifference I’ve encountered here has been staggering.
2️⃣ Unresolved Premium Konto Application:
Five months ago, I applied for a Premium Konto and received both a confirmation of application and an Auftragsnummer. Since then, I have heard absolutely nothing—no updates, no decision, no communication of any kind. This lack of follow-up is highly unprofessional, particularly when it concerns a product that involves additional fees.
3️⃣ Customer Service Challenges:
Commerzbank has made contacting support increasingly difficult:
Branch account managers are no longer reachable via email (at least email address is not visible on letters anymore).
The chatbot on their website seems designed to prevent direct contact with a human representative.
Calling their support hotline is frustratingly inefficient. On Saturdays, meaningful support ends early, while weekday calls are met with long wait times, abrupt disconnections, or a notice that “too many calls” are being received—sometimes well before the advertised closing time.
When I finally reached an agent, the experience was even worse. Instead of apologizing for the 5-month delay on my application, I was told dismissively that I needed to reapply because the request had "expired." When I expressed my frustration, the agent’s attitude was condescending, as though my concern was unwarranted.
It is astonishing that a bank would neglect a customer who is actively seeking to upgrade their account and pay higher fees for better service. The lack of follow-up, poor communication, and dismissive attitude have made this an exhausting and frustrating experience.
If these issues are not addressed, I will strongly consider closing my account despite the inconvenience of updating my payment and salary information elsewhere.
This is not the standard of service one expects from a major financial institution. Please do better, Commerzbank.
Customer service is simply HORRIBLE
Customer service is simply HORRIBLE. I've been a client for 7 years now, and in many occasions I would be annoyed with their customer service, but this time even more. To block a card they say it's 24 hours and 7/7 days. I saw 10 transactions on my credit card that I didn't make all happened at once with over 1700 euros. I called the customer service and been on the waiting line for over 12 mins at midnight in the middle of the week.
Then the next day, I tried the live chat because I thought it would be faster.
Well spoiler alert, I started the live chat 30 mins ago and there is still not one single answer.
Now I'm seriously considering changing banks just because of their slow and bad customer service.
Incompetent, rude and not helpful
Incompetent, rude, not helpful. Went to the offices at the Rossmarkt in Frankfurt. Clerk tried everything not to help. Told me to use the online banking app or use only real letters to communicate and request services from the bank. This bank is a digital nightmare and the ppl working there not ready to deal with clients face to face. It was horrible to experience their behavior and communication style. I will move on to another bank. Commerzbank is a shame!
