They used to be good and could talk to a local person quickly. Now it's all AI and offshore. They had been double-charging me for at least a year and said they would refund me, but nothing has happened. Still waiting on the refund and an email apologising.
!!AVOID!
!!AVOID!! WARNING ⚠️
I Set up contents insurance for my uncle as he was going into respite care, 3 weeks of cover and my uncle became a permanent resident of a nursing home. When trying to cancel the policy AAMI made it impossible, I had to jump through every hoop known to mankind. I am the enduring power of attorney, I had all the paperwork certified by a JP. And yet two weeks later and still no cancellation of said policy. I have so much going on with the care of multiple people and yet I send hours a day trying to close this $14. A month policy. How ridiculous 🙄. I would not recommend AAMI to anyone after this experience.
Over a month to look at claim
Took over a month for my claim to be looked at which was a mechanical issue not an accident so unsure why took so long for simple claim. Then did not communicate with mechanics adding more delays. I then spent a day on the phone to sort out payment due to AAMI and mechanics not communicating with each other. In all a mechanical repair that takes 1-2 days to do took nearly 3 months.
AVOID
We have been insured by AAMI for a number of years and have had no issues until we made a claim. They will do absolutely everything they can to avoid paying a claim or acknowledge damage caused by their contractors. And when you go to cancel the policy, they will not cancel it without approval… Don’t expect AAMI to stand by you when you need them.
It’s not the AAMI that we used to know
It’s not the AAMI that we used to know, asking car back before the payouts when the customer was with them for almost a decade n probably going back as well but I will stop.
Making hard case handlings n department shuffling asking for excess fee prior settlement or payout when the other person who has caused accident have accepted his mistake but this company is failing to protect their customers.
It’s just sad and disappointing to see AAMI like this now
N why the yearly deduction when the customer will no longer have the car. I will request @AFCA to have a look in these companies
Good
AAMI after my car accident was briliant 5star service it’s very important in time of stress keep good job AAMI
Thank you AAMI I feel like part of big good family
Not worth even one star
Not worth even one star. Total time wasters, all talk and no action. I Made a claim 19/02/2026 they sent the car to their repairer and said nothing until 15/04/2026 where they half fixed the car and tried to get me to collect it. When I complained they now say they wont fix the car and worst of all I already payed the renewal since it became due during the extremely long time the car has been gone. No point paying for insurance when your claim is ignored and you car half fixed. NOT-LUCKY WITH AAMI IF YOU NEED TO MAKE A CLAIM.
They’re the worst save ur life ur time…
They’re the worst save ur life ur time ur money and go with someone else
Unreasonable and unfair claims process
Very poor regarding a claims process for a car.
I’m a customer of 21 years.
1/ A senior manager rang me to apologize for unacceptable behavior during a call to the pre claims centre. Constant interruptions, didn’t let me speak, didn’t seem to listen. Just the start.
2/ The claims investigation process is heavy, largely irrelevant and stressful. Deeply flawed and unreasonable. Hours of interviews, excessive repeating of the same questions to try and establish consistency in explanations; they don’t answer carefully considered and fair written questions, then requiring me to run around for days collating documentation.
3/ Finally a rejection letter for the claim which lacked logic and didn’t specify conclusions linked to specific policy terms. I get the sense that the decision was made on an emotional level rather than a logical, legally sound, solidly based interaction with myself.
Don’t trust AAMI - you’re in the “lions mouth” if you do,
I’m off to AFCA
Abusive staff - Recommend avoiding.
Called on behalf of an elderly family member to seek clarity on a matter. After identifying myself and the family member also, they went straight on the offensive to the family member who was clearly confused. AAMI would not allow me to speak on behalf of the family member despite going through correct process. This caused the elderly family member to be further confused, and distressed.
Disgusting conduct from AAMI.
Avoid.
Very disappointing experience
Very disappointing experience. I had my car booked in with the panel beaters and arranged a hire car, only to arrive and be told the hire car had been booked for the wrong date, two weeks earlier. Despite this being their error, I was told it was my responsibility to change the dates and no compensation would be offered for the time, inconvenience, or costs caused. Their staff acknowledged the mistake but took no real ownership of the issue. I would strongly recommend checking every email and booking detail carefully, as mistakes can happen and customers may be left out of pocket.
Horendous company to deal with
Horendous company to deal with. After 6 months AAMI still won;t repair simple things as covered by my policy and as acknowledged by AAMI as a valid repair case. AAMI fail to respond to simple direct queries and have no respect for customers. AAMI sit behind policy allowing them weeks to respond to simple queries but when thye ask something of the customer they provide very short windows and incomplete or incorrect information.
Avoid this company at all costs because when you need help they won't be there to help you.
5.5k dollars car stolen.
5.5k dollars car stolen.
4.2k back
Minus 942$ to make the claim
And.......they take you rego!!!
I had like 1000$ rego almost 12 months paid, I cannot get refund from VicRoads, they get that!
What a waist of money to pay them.
I had a health insurance cover with aami
I had a health insurance cover with aami for 16 months in which I paid 190 aud a month. I had a couple of teeth removed and my claim was knocked back because I went to a dentist to have it removed and not a hospital. Very misleading and fraudulent company
I have been with AAMI for 8 years and…
I have been with AAMI for 8 years and my car was recently written off and it was not my fault. I waited 3 months to get an answer and they tried to low ball my pay out by $4000, which I ended up getting. Multiple phone calls, one was for three hours. Would not recommend them to anyone. Worst experience.
Done paying more for less
I've been a loyal customer of AAMI for years, always paying on time and never making a claim. Yet every single year they put the premium up and lower the insured value. Over time it's gotten to the point where the price just doesn't justify the cover anymore.
When I brought this up with customer service I was completely ignored and they offered no apology or explanation. That said it all really. To AAMI I'm just another dollar sign, and I'm done with them.
Give AAMI a wide berth these days
My daughter had an accident in my car almost a month ago. She’s a listed driver and was at fault. The accident happened in the early hours just outside a country town. The vehicle was towed by a local towing company to that town. The online tracking process isn’t working so I’ve so far made about six or so calls to their ‘claims experts’ to find out how things are progressing. It’s hard to understand them as they are all of a NESB. You never speak to an Aussie, it seems. Anyway, they keep telling me the hold-up is the towing company which hasn’t sent images of the vehicle. Turns out the ‘experts’ believe the car is at a towing place over a 100 kms away. It isn’t. They claim they’ve been trying to make contact with that company without any success. No wonder! It’s absolute bullshit. I ended up emailing the company after hours to check if it had my vehicle, and within 30 minutes was kindly sent a reply to inform me that my car wasn’t there. Of corse it wasn’t. It’s back at the town near where the accident occurred. My daughter informed AAMI in the report on the day of the accident when, where and by whom the vehicle was being towed.
It’s an ongoing saga. All the while, I paid the outrageous excess upfront just after the accident occurred!
Avoid AAMI. I will once it’s sorted, if it ever is.
Woeful Service
The level and competency of their service is shocking. I started my claim in August 2025. It started off fine, but as soon as their authorised repairer said they could/would not carry out the repairs, I was offered a paltry $1800 to cover the repairs. I advised at the time that this would not se sufficient and someone will need to review this. It was weeks before anyone reached out to me and once agreed, to review it I got a quote and emailed that as requested. Then I had to make 3 or 4 phone calls to figure out where that was at. It was only once they registered it as a "complaint" did they expedite someone getting in touch with me. Finally someone did and advised it would be a total loss. After speaking to another representative it was agreed on the day to finalise the claim, have my car towed and issue the payment. I received an email on Monday advising that the claim had been finalised, and my car got towed Thursday. I was expecting to see the payment come through before the weekend, as I had already put a deposit on a car and couldn't be without a car over the weekend. When I call the total loss team to check when the EFT had been schedule ... it had not been processed. So I need to wait another 3 business days and be without a car to commute to work. Literally everything that could go wrong did go wrong.

I had a very poor experience during the complaint interaction. The agent I spoke with demonstrated a lack of patience and professionalism and appeared unable to manage the situation or handle customer feedback appropriately. The overall handling of the conversation was disappointing and did not meet the standards expected when dealing with customer concerns.
Terrible customer service
Terrible customer service, refusing me a refund, even though they agreed my insurance is cancelled. Would never use again!
