Compleltely low-balled on value of my item at a buying event near my city. They have a current auction with items very similar to mine (and mine has more value due to additional autographs) and the representative was showing me "stats" on worthpoint trying to imply my item was worth about 1/3rd what their current auction estimates are.

I came to an appraisal, consignment,offer seminar in Banff today and there was not a single person there and hour into it.When I tried showing the man who was the photograph and art professional did not know who Arthur C Pillsbury was,one of the pioneers of time lapse photography and inventor of panoramic lenses. I had a four foot and three foot by one foot set of his 1906 Alberta Rocky Panoramic pieces in their original frames of oak,with pine slats, antique nails and was paper ,all original from 1907 when my great great grandfather and his brother.. MacCrimmons,who surveyed and contacted the CP rails all across Canada, especially in Alberta into Edmonton.The Panoramic shots are of Banff now famous views and glaciers ,now mostly gone.My family were friends with Pillsbury and both pieces had personal notes on the back as I was told by my grandmother,I did not open to see.He was rude and arrogant for zero reason and laughed when he looked up the mountain climbing famous artist because he found a PRINT online for 80.00..he laughed in my face,half my size and I couldn't understand his lack of knowledge with a fake confidence.I had MacCrimmon antique bagpipes,as we are hereditary pipers to the Clan MacLeod going back to 1350. The pipes had personal wartime correspondence with Chief Dame Flora MacLeod,images of my grandfather playing at Dunvegan Castle with the Chief,playing at BBC for his fellow WW2 troops.The Lawrie harwood antique small pipes, parlor pipes without the provinance are valuable but he laughed because I brought pipes and then I got angry. I had many very cool items besides but he lacked all curiosity and love of his job, complete lack of knowledge in his field and to laugh in someone's face who drove the three hours because he was able to find a inexpensive print,while I had something so completely different the that his insult made no sense.DO NOT go to one of these events as they are there to drain your towns of relics at worse than pawnshop offers,as I have been speaking with the few folks who did come.This man could care less what I had brought besides,so I left before he insulted me too far. It made no sense.

Total scammers, they offer less than melt value for fine golf jewellery

Totally dishonest company!! If I was not in France I would file a complaint against it, antique dealer for 40 years, I sold to a visibly very naive customer on the Etsy site, a 19th century French 18k gold jewel bought in Paris in an auction house specializing in antique jewelry, I know what I buy this is my business and I have the invoice, the description and the expertise of this jewel and everything is also visible with the photos in the sale results of the House in question and on Hotel Drouot website. The jewel is hallmarked with eagle 's head which is the legal French hallmark for 18k, it also bears a maker's mark. This eagle's head is perfectly visible on the jewel as well as on the photos of the Auction House. Unless they're blind, the so-called expert at this company (named Dan ) certainly saw it too. They told my client that the jewelry was 10k gold (10k gold didn't exist in France in the 19th century) and that it was worth five times less than what she had paid for it, no doubt hoping that one day she would sell it and they would get a good deal by melting it down!
I saw that another person on this site had the same problem, so they're no strangers to it!
This customer, rather than contacting me, preferred to give me a bad review as a way of getting revenge, which she wasn't even able to remove even though I sent her photos of the hallmark and all the explanations, no doubt upset at having been ripped off. Unlike this company, I myself have almost 1,000 reviews, all 5 stars, except hers.

Everyone should know that when you sell to these people they prefer to melt your jewelry to earn easy money rather than preserve and enhance a heritage that they couldn't care less about. Antique jewelry represents the work of craftsmen and jewelry artists who had a love of beauty and talent. This work is disappearing before our eyes to give way to mediocrity! Hands have chiseled and polished these jewels for hours to make you more beautiful, ladies. These craftsmen are dead today, but as long as their work is worn and loved by someone, they still remain a little alive!

Went to a local Harrington's event in Spruce Grove, AB to sell jewelry. I have been treated better at a pawn shop. It was sad to see mainly seniors being fleeced for their heirloom jewels. Shame.

Wish I could get my items back!
The only items in the coin collection they were interested in was the ones with silver content. They weighed the coins and gave a price for them which I felt was low. I asked how many ounces of silver there was and he said it doesn't really work that way because some had 90% and others had 80%, 50%, and some were 40%. I told him I thought I could get more for them and he got very agitated and said no one had ever questioned him before. The collection belonged to other family members as well, and they were interested in selling. I wrote down all the percentages and the weights of each before I left. A few days later I took the list to someone local who buys and sells silver and without telling him what we got paid, I asked him how many ounces of silver there was and what he would pay for it - within 60 seconds he had both answers for me. He would have paid double what we got. He was shocked when I showed him what Harrington's paid. We definitely got paid less from Harrington's than I felt was the true value. Lesson learned but it was an expensive one!

I really wish I had seen these reviews ahead of time, but there seems to be no “Google “ reviews for Harrington’s.

Iwas wary of this free “appraisal service“, And this is definitely not what this service is- I’m not exactly sure how this is legal because this isn’t an appraisal service at all. During an appraisal, you are shown, on your jewels where the amount of gold is indicated, and given an itemized sales receipt should you decide to sell.
Unfortunately, Harringtons is basically a step up from a pawnshop.
Be very careful When they come to town. You only get one chance to sell your heirlooms.
They are not interested in your collections. They are simply interested in melting down gold and silver.
The ad is very misleading, Indicating that they are interested in
“ Numismatic coins and bank notes”, Numismatic Meaning:
coins, tokens, and other coin-like objects that people used as currencies throughout history.

They are not even remotely interested in these Items. They will also not give you a very good price for old silver coins, which are valuable, not just for silver content, but for their age as well. You would be much better to try to sell them to private collectors.
My buyer was also named Katrina and she went very quickly, and not giving me an itemized bill of sale at the end- even though I requested one - is a huge red flag. There was a woman beside me, talking to a gentleman who was fairly appraising her jewelry, and not just weighing it on a scale. She also had her husband with her and unfortunately, women do tend to get taken advantage of.
They see another woman and think they can trust them but unfortunately this is a huge mistake. I’m afraid this is the woman in the other you did and unfortunately she will never get her jewellery back. What are you going to do, Sue Harrington’s?
Undercutting the seller is how they get a better commission and unfortunately, a person who undervalues things will not be fired by their employer, and in fact, are more highly valued as an employee. They are making the company more money, under the false advertising of “ appraising”.
I was very disappointed at getting less than a third of expected price, and I spent a very long time doing my homework. I would’ve given them a two star out of five, however, seeing as I had worked all day and was exhausted, I did agree to the price, took my check and went home.

First experience with Dan went well but second time with Katrina was the worst. Dishonest, not transparent nor trustworthy. I had a ring appraised at $1185 and she lied about the quality and offered me $350. Another ring was appraised by another of their own appraisers and confirmed by another jeweller as being made of 23 KT gold with diamonds but she told me it was 10 KT gold and GLASS STONES. She claimed 18kt and 14 kt as 10 kt and covered it up by not providing an itemized purchase invoice so you could tell how much was paid for each item. Multiple messages were left for the manager who did not call back. They cheated me and I would like all my jewellery back.

Utter waste of time. Though I'd booked an appointment, I had to wait 25 minutes for him to acknowledge me while the appraiser casually chatted with another client. He gave me no more information about the paintings I'd lugged in than I'd already found in my own Google search, despite sending him photos and measurements, as requested, several days ahead of the appointment. This company simply does not value people's time. Don't waste yours.

Had an appointment for an appraisal, they did not respect my time, expected me to just sit there and wait. Reading other reviews elsewhere subsequently, I am happy I did not bother to wait around.
