If you're an international person or a student then i dont suggest dak. I wanted to make an enquiry about a payment and when i called them they just hung up on me saying they dont understand me. My german is not that perfect but i can perfectly express myself. By hearing my dialect the lady who took the phone cut the call within 20 seconds. And i had same experiences whenever i had approached the customer service. So if you are not a native german please dont go for Dak.

My experience with DAK: unfair treatment and legal dispute
I cancelled my insurance with DAK in 2023 after they suddenly raised my premium from around €200 per month to more than €900 per month. This happened because I was unable to constantly satisfy bureaucratic demands such as repeatedly filling out forms they sent me at their discretion. Even when I provided the requested information, I was told that — in my case — it was not sufficient and that I would need to hire a third party to make my information “trustworthy.”
After two years of back and forth, they sent me a “Christmas gift” in late 2023: a bill for more than €15,000 in accumulated premiums. At the same time, they triggered the Hauptzollamt to recover these amounts. I was devastated and had to bring the case to the Sozialgericht (Social Court).
On Trustpilot, DAK wrote that they would investigate what went wrong. But at the Sozialgericht, their lawyer argued that my complaint should not even be accepted by the court. The defense even suggested that my insufficient mastery of the German language was relevant to the dispute.
In my view, this shows a business model that puts foreign customers at a clear disadvantage. My conclusion: DAK’s customer handling left me with financial and legal problems that no one should face. I cannot recommend DAK, especially to people who come to Germany and may not yet speak perfect German.

DAK need an upgrade
I received a letter from Hauptzollamt Dresden, with DAK in copy, today 13th June, making a claim on insurance I had already paid for on 26th February.
I’d like to state that good customer service does not rely on scare tactics, it is shitty and unhealthy. I only gave one star because there’s no option for zero.
I called to clarify the situation, but the customer service was so appalling that I immediately contacted another insurance provider to switch. I was furious. The representative acknowledged my anger but simply asked if I had any other questions, without addressing their incompetence or the ongoing excess payments I’ve been making. Instead of €262, I paid €271. That was it. No explanation, no resolution.
Honestly, why use humans who behave like robots when you could just use an actual robot? 😆
Please avoid DAK. They prey on internationals, this is all I can say.

Bad customer support and service
The worst instance company you can get! (based on my personal experience)
My big advice to foreign people is not to get insurance with this company.
- Many of their stuff don’t even speak English.
I left a Google review as well, and I was shortly replied, giving me an online form to fill if I still have a problem to resolve. Guess what? This link wasn't working 🥲

The worst company ever
The worst company ever! I have closed my account before leaving Germany and everything was going well.
After a month from closing my account. They took 128 euros from me out of nowhere! I contacted them and they replied with “ your account was not completely closed”. They said they needed a certain document which they never asked for and then I will be eligible for a refund. After sending it they simply said “ we cannot refund you because the amount is not too much”. Yes this is literally what they said.
Never ever sign up with those thieves and go to TK instead.
I will take this matter to the German authorities since I will be going back to Germany soon.

I tried emailing and calling and make queries through the form in the DAK website they never responded. It has been almost a month. I waited on the phone line for so long and someone has actually picked up but deliberately put the phone down. The setup of DAK app is a mess as well. I was in DAK office last year and before you leave they asked you to leave good reviews for them, that's why you always find nice reviews on Google but the true review is in Trustpilot. Find yourself another health insurance provider. Thank me later

Do NOT sign up with this company. It is the worst thing that could have happened to me in my 2 years in Germany. Fortunately I was able to change to TK. This theaves are just irresponsible. They do not send you letters instead they collect your health insurance and they let it accumulate for up to 6 months and then charge you everything at once, and they threaten you! They tell you that if you do not pay quickly, then you will have more fines. When they had all your information to contact you per Phone, Email, your Adress.
For students who are close to 30 years old, these thieves do not allow you to extend your student insurance unless you prove that you were basically dying! In other services like TK this extension is easier, even if you took a German course. With these thieves it is not like that. They are usurers, thieves, uncomprehending, little welcoming to international students, a service that is still old that sends you letters by Post, and an Application that works disastrously. Other services already allow continuous contact and Online By Email.
Just save yourself the headaches with this company!!

I really hate the service this…
I really hate the service this insaurance company is providing, its really the worst for students. Its been a month ive sent them emails and they are not respoding to any of it, again ive some issues where they have asked me to pay for the time i wasnot even in germany. I saw my friends getting a waiver from TK but DAK hasnot been listening to my issues even when i submitted all necessary documents even through the university as well. How come similar situations are addressed faster with TK and not with DAK??This is the worst service I ever got, and even though I tried calling them they are putting me on hold for so long. What is wrong with just responding to an email??

AVOID at all costs if you are moving to Germany from another country. After I signed up I received bills for backpayments for previous months when I had other insurance.
We spent months on the phone (in German and English) and they couldn’t explain why but kept stating that I had to pay the bill and started sending me late payment fees. After I left Germany I told them unless they could provide me with a legal reason why I had to pay the bill I would not be paying it. Eventually they told me I didn’t have to pay it but I felt like I was being scammed. I wish I had seen the other reviews online here as Germans seem to have no problems with the DAK but they are very problematic if you are an international

Dak insurance company are finding a ways to cheat , exactly they are equal to criminals.
In 2019 I had some issues with my heart and went to hospital for 5 days , may be I forget to pay money for that 5 days ( 50 euros ) .
So for that 50 euros already paid more than 3000 euros to dak for my careless,
Today I got another letter from them that I have to pay more 445 euros is rest from 2020 with a different issues. DAK insurance company torcher me in a different ways , they makes me very sick with there letters.
DAK already sent 2 times ZOLL to my appartment to get money .
My personally request to everyone try to find another insurance company , DON'T GO TO DAK.

I am an international student and I do not recommend DAK
This insurance company is going after your money. They say they support you in English but is not at all. I stayed just 6 months with them and the moment I wanted to finished the contract the came with tons of excuses so I was obligated to stayed with them.
I had to ask for help to the international office in my university to fight the first line of customer service mails. They had to reach a higher position to solve the problem...but guess what, today one year later this happen, I still receive their letters that I am obligated to things with them.
Is a nightmare.
In case someone is reading, I highly recommend TK insurance. They have even the app in English, and the branches staff is really helpful with everything.

Stay away from Dak insurance company
Please I will advice people to stay away from this so called dak insurance company, the only thing they are after is money and to add to money if you are owning them money due to you didn’t work for sometimes. I paid this company 1450 due to I didn’t work for 6months and I called this useless company to waive just 27€ for they said no very useless company.
