A year of expensive misery.

GivEnergy's equipment hardware is generally adequate. However, their software is diabolical, Only slightly better than their customer support which ranges from farcical to non-existent.

Bricked

Bought a full GiveEnergy system and now they have decided to charge customers a fee to access the app that allows them to control the equipment they have. We bought the equipment - it isn't on rent to us so this failure to allow free access to our property must be unfair trading. Customers bought the equipment spending thousands of pounds on the understanding that they could control it. Now you have to upgrade to a premium account to gain access to something you spent thousands on - if you don't all you can do is basically look at what it is doing without any way to intervene.
I was a fan of Give Energy but now it’s unusable in the way it was sold to me. I am going to speak to Trading Standards about this and consider if there are steps I can take to address this situation.

Company under administration

I received an email saying that this company went under administration, which means my £15K equipment that I bought from them are useless in case any fault happened.

Even the app to monitor my installation they removed all features asking me to pay monthly if want them back, not sure how to pay to a closed company

My advise if anyone is looking to install solars , pay a bit extra and go with big names like Scottish Power and others, its a 10 years investment at least, so better protect it from these small companies that they will declare bankruptcy just to avoid the long term service and maintenance that they charged you already for and now they made their profit and run away.

Do not waste your money here

Inverter stopped working, tried to contact via mail 4 times, 0 reply for the past month.

Tried to run the health checker not possible anymore since it's a premium subscription product.. What are we doing here? Still have warranty until 2028 but I doubt it will do anything.
Do not waste your money here.

Ripoff changing the terms after the equipment was bought

Very dissapointed. When I purchased my battery system it was possible to access the data via an app or web interface. Giv have now blocked accesss to my own data unless I pay them £5/month. I would not have bought their equipment if this had been the deal at the time. They have changed the terms after I bought their equipment. This is in addition to many technical issues including an inverter that caught fire inside my house while under warranty, which they took months of chasing to fix.

No support, even when sign up to Premium

All was well to start but about a year ago the app became unreliable without being able to access and control the system, for the last 6 months I have had not been able to control my inverter.
GivEnery Premium was introduced to fund the support of the software but I have been unable to get any support or assistance.

Paywalling of features included with my £13,000 purchase

In 2023, I paid £13,000 (thirteen thousand pounds) in full for a 12-panel solar system, battery, and inverter. All hardware was supplied by GivEnergy. At the point of sale, a key feature was the intuitive app and cloud dashboard that would allow me to monitor my system and control what energy I send to the grid. I relied on this functionality when making my purchasing decision and I was a big advocate.

What has happened

Because the Hardware side of the business went into liquidation, I now cannot view my own monthly reports, access my dashboard, or control my own fully paid for system without paying a monthly subscription for "Premium Tier" access. Basic functionality I have used since installation has been mostly removed or severely degraded.

I did not buy hardware and software from two separate companies. I bought a complete system from GivEnergy. It's disgusting that I can't even read how much energy I am sending to the grid on a weekly basis even. Absolutely disgusted. All this after paying £13K

Ridiculous U turn

Ridiculous U turn! As most others have experienced, GiveEnergy for some suicidal business reason has decided to charge customers £60 a year to use an App to control their Solar equipment that they have been doing since installation. Customers bought the equipment spending thousands of pounds on the understanding that they could control it on an easy app. It was easy to use until now. If you don’t”upgrade” to premium your App basically stops working and says no equipment found in a nutshell. I was a huge fan of my Give Energy set up but now it’s unusable as it was before. As I purchased it on the understanding that it had App control built into my purchase price and I am now having the contract and warranty paperwork legally reviewed to pursue removal and refund.

One more dissatisfied customer

One more dissatisfied customer felt betrayed. This subscription will never work with the price and the general frustration from so many customers. It just defeated the whole purpose of generating more income for a collapsing company. No remote monitoring, no clear and efficient command over charging nor discharging, only alibi for extra monthly charge on top of a premium initial price. Wake up, if this policy was not reverted, your customers will Givup.

Feel betrayed...

For 3 years I have been able to monitor my solar, battery, inverter & make sure im using it as efficiently as possible....now to do this any saving I make will be payed back to Givenergy for a subscription!!!! Like many others the money they make from these apps is from promotional features of others brands, advertising, special offers etc. For one I won't be paying the subscription or recommending to my friends & colleagues of what a wonderful system it is.

I strongly advise people not to buy

I strongly advise people not to buy GivEnergy batteries.

GivEnergy is now charging a monthly subscription just to view basic battery information. That’s right — $10 per month for features that are provided free by most other battery systems.

Without paying, I can no longer properly view battery history, monitor charging and discharging performance, or see detailed usage data. These are basic functions that customers reasonably expect to have access to after purchasing an expensive battery system.

The scheduling system has also become a complete mess. It often defaults to “buy from grid” mode, and when I switch it to use my own battery, it frequently doesn’t work properly. As a result, I end up drawing power from the grid when I should be using stored battery power.

To make matters worse, because scheduling features are now restricted, I have to manually select half-hour blocks just to try to get the battery to operate correctly. This is frustrating, time-consuming, and completely unacceptable for a premium-priced product.

GivEnergy batteries are already more expensive than many competing systems. Charging customers an ongoing subscription for basic monitoring and control features after the initial purchase is unreasonable.

I urge GivEnergy to fix these issues immediately and restore access to essential battery monitoring and scheduling features. If this matter is not addressed, I will be lodging a formal complaint with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and raising my concerns through consumer review platforms.

Extremely disappointed.

The customer service has completely…

The customer service has completely collapsed, the software has collapsed and unless you cough up the subscription to premium services you can't access the software. Surley there must be legal back up when something like this happens. The whole system, inverters, batteries and software (app) wasn't cheap.
