Review of Etymotic Research

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Seems to be in trouble

Ordered a pair of ER4XR earphones from the Etymotic Research website and was charged £307.41 After a few days received an update saying that my order is closed because the phones are out of stock. After a few more days was refunded £289.79.

So the sloppy and incompetent IT on the Etymotic website cost me £17.62. Just for nothing,

The ER4XR earphones are still available for order. If I try to write a review at the Etymotic's website it throws an error saying "merchant does not exist"

Poor quality / fake parts

Ordered a replacement lid for a bodum teapot.

The original lid was plastic and felt quite good in hands. What's espares sent me however was a stainless steel lid of appalling quality. It feels terrible in hands and produces an absolutely disgusting metal-on-metal screech when moving along the rod.

It has also arrived in a dodgy handmade packaging and has no sign of being original.

Avoid this company at any cost.

Funding Circle is killing the planet

Funding Circle has found our business address somewhere and now sending us the real old-school spam printed on real paper.

By doing so Funding Circle not only demonstrates an outdated and unethical approach to business but also wastes natural resources, pollutes the environment and contributes in killing this planet.

Review of DigitalOcean

Online crime safe heaven

Being a Digital Ocean customer myself I appreciate their low prices and the simplicity of droplet creation. However in the recent month the ethics behind the Digital Ocean business became of a great concern to me.

Our company is a small digital goods and software vendor which has to tackle piracy from time to time in order to survive. This is how we discovered that apart from being our own service provider Digital Ocean is also a hoster for a notorious and blatant copyright infringer Mshare.

Once been served with a DMCA notice it took Digital Ocean almost a month only to have "located the associated account" of the infringer. And nothing has been done to it yet.

So Digital Ocean is fully aware of the criminal activities of Mshare which are carried out using the Digital Ocean services and equipment. However they choose to keep profiting from crime instead of tackling it. This choice is clearly deliberate.

I believe this kind of behaviour is unacceptable and must come to an end.

Unethical company which benefits from crime

I am a customer of Digital Ocean where I host a number of product website. The services are pretty reliable. However there is a very important aspect of the DO's ethos I need to complain about.

It came to our attention that Digital Ocean is also a hoster for a notorious copyright infringer Mshare, who is involved in unsolicited distribution of our digital products. Software piracy, simply speaking.

Once served the DMCA notice, it took DO almost a month to only "identify the infringer's account", and nothing else has been done with the infringer yet.

Which means DO benefits from the criminal activities carried out by its customer Mshare who openly uses the DO's equipment and services while DO does not move swiftly enough to tackle the crime once made aware of it.

This kind of behaviour is unacceptable and must come to an end.

Good job but begging for reviews

The online order was easy and the fitting at the Lakeside pit-stop took about an hour.

My only frustration point was the guy at the fitting centre who took my phone no. and promised to call me once the job is done but didn't.

Also at the end he was quite pushy begging for a 5-star review. In fact he mentioned that 4 or 5 times. It seems that the review was his main and only concern.

Review of American Express Global

No customer service

Just discovered that the American Express customer service does not exist. No mistake here — it simply does not exist any more.

Originally I had a suspicious transaction I could not recognise. I opened a dispute which has been closed by Amex "due to insufficient setup" — the wording I am struggling to understand.

And at this point I found that there is no one to help or explain what that means. No email contacts, nothing. My only option is a chat which promises 24/7 availability but when I open it it says 'no specialists available, please use other options'.

Based on my own experience I can't recommend American Express to anyone due to sub-standard (in my case non-existent) customer service.

Review of COPYTRACK

Helpless

We are a small software publisher. We have signed up for Copytrack and it identified hundreds of infringers fairly quickly. But after that Copytrack failed to collect any damages or take down anything on our behalf.

Among the main reasons are, according to Copytrack, the 'infringer's data protection' and 'inability to locate the infringer's contacts'.

Surprise! The criminals just forgot to publish their full names and street addresses when sharing the pirated software online. And without that valuable data Copytrack was not able to proceed.

I'd say at this stage Copytrack was pretty useless for us and made no practical difference at all.

Nuisance emails

Vettery has somehow sourced my name and email without my consent and now keeps bombarding me with irrelevant yet personalised email requests.

Sent them a GDPR request in response asking to remove my personal details from their system and stop this nonsense.

Considering escalating to the regulator if they won’t listen.

Distrustful company with dirty methods

Spotify switched me from premium to a more expensive family plan without my consent. After researching online I found this situation to be quite typical — hundreds of complains.

I believe this is deeply unethical and needs to be punished. So I am not going to waste my time complaining to Spotify itself but will go to a regulator instead. They need to be taken to the court and fined.

Review of Dyson UK

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Don't buy Dyson cordless vacuums

From my own experience Dyson corded machines were actually quite good and lasted for years.

But with the modern cordless tech the company seems to have radically changed their philosophy and became very aggressive on planned obsolescence.

The Dyson cordless vacuums simply don't last. Precisely in the way described by many other reviewers here, our cordless Dyson worked for a couple of years. Then it suddenly went down the hill in a week, and now its motor cuts out intermittently. Dyson support says I either need a new battery which will cost me £60 or upgrade to a new vacuum which costs a fortune.

None of those options looks particularly attractive to me. Because the Dyson cordless vacuums are poorly designed. They are only useful on max power which means you get very little working time, in reality far from what's being advertised by Dyson. Their batteries don't last. They are generally fiddly and flimsy and their bins are awkward to empty.

With all the respect to the company, I wouldn't recommend modern Dyson products to anyone. They are not user-friendly, not environment-friendly and only designed with Dyson profit maximisation in mind.

Review of Lambland

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Terrible communication, product significantly not as described

One of the worst companies I ever dealt with so far. The owners and the managers lack any sense of responsibility and newer follow up. Complete disgrace.

Back in early April I ordered a sexto shipskin rug from Lambland which they promised to deliver by mid May. However that didn’t happen. After receiving nothing by mid May and seeing no updates from Lambland I emailed them kindly asking about my order’s fate. That’s how it all started.

In fact by mid June I’d sent about 20 emails to Lambland and called them several times. Every time the person on the other end was perfectly adequate and polite and promised to check the progress of my order with their shop and get back to me ‘later on today’ or ‘tomorrow’. Which they never did. No single time at all.

I totally appreciate it is a tough time for the whole retail sector, and any business may suffer delays in their supply chain or gaps in funding.

But what makes me really upset in this situation is the people who run Lambland and their attitude. Despite the order being long overdue they never made any effort to inform me about the progress or the reason for delay or simply apologise. And even when they clearly promised get back, they just didn’t. All I had from Lambland by mid June is a mountain of promises to call me tomorrow or to email me or to ship. And none of those promises has ever been fulfilled.

Sometimes I think about the Lambland founder who and likely answered some of my calls or emails — who are they? Why they do what they do? What happens in their minds when they promise something to other people and then simply ignore those promises?

UPD:
Coincidentally or not, after leaving this negative feedback on several resources I received two emails from Lambland. Happy days! They’ve finally decided to email me. Moreover this time Lambland promised to ship my order on the next day. And they did!

But what’s arrived was another surprise. I paid for «British Premium Quality Large Rare Breed Sheepskin Rug». But what I received is better described as «The worlds smallest sexto sheepskin rug». And also likely the most short-haired one.

The Lambland’s own size guide describes sexto as 180 x 180 cm. The rug I received was a complete joke: 174 x 139 in its widest places and 145 x 120 on average. Which looks a bit small even for a quad rug by the Lambland's own standards. Also with its hair length of 5 cm max it looks like a different breed of animal when compared to the description and the luxurious photos of the long-haired rrugs on the Lambland’s website.

So based on my very own experience I am not sure if I could recommend Lambland to my friends and family as well as to any person researching this company on the internet.

Quite dodgy

An extremely dodgy company which is hosting a lot of customers involved in criminal activities such as copyright infringement. For example they are hosting such a notorious infringing site as mac-torrent-download.

At the moment our company is seeking legal action against Tomattos because they've ignored several DMCAs we've sent them.

So the best advice is to keep away from this hosting.

Delivery was a mess

Ordered a valuable bottle from WE. Can't say anything about its contents yet but the delivery was messed up.

In the note to the courier I kindly asked to send me a text in advance then deliver the box to the ground floor to me in person. Instead they didn't text me, delivered to the 4-th floor of a huge office building and accepted a signature of another person.

That wasn't what I expected.

Eventually I managed to find my box. However I am still wondering how on earth it was possible to bring it to 4th floor to another person when both my name and the 'ground floor' were on the label in a clear huge type.

Dear Fred & Helen,

Thank you for taking the time to review us on Trustpilot.

This is very much appreciated as customer feedback is important to us, to help us improve our service.

When you placed the order, you did not include the instructions to text you upon arrival, you included this note in the “notes for Customer Services field”, and these notes do not automatically get passed on to our couriers.

Our couriers unfortunately are not able to send or call our customers ahead of their delivery.

Please accept our apologies for your order being delivered to the wrong floor.

Review of Park Cameras

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Con artists, poor ethical values

I was looking to buy Sony a7 III with Zeiss 50/1.4 lens. The price for the camera body at Park Cameras was set at the same level with other reputable shops so I added it to the basket.

Right after the website offered me “to save on the lens” from a selected range. Zeiss 50/1.4 was in the list and I selected the lens too.

The lens was presented as an £1500 rrp item discontinued to £1399 for me. However a quick online research revealed that 1500 is an insane price and no one around sells this lens for 1500. Moreover, most of the other shops sell it for sub 1300 and some for sub 1200.

So all that “save now” presentation looks like a very cheap con trick of Park Cameras. This experience made me to cancel my order. Also I will never buy again from Park Cameras and will advice all my friends and colleagues from doing so for years to come.

Also I wanted to clarify, I don’t think Park Cameras do something illegal - it’s their right to set any price and present it in the way they like. However this trick with fake discount designed to trick you into actually paying more feels quite dirty. Seems like they think you’re a complete idiоt and treat you accordingly.

So should you keep buying gear from Park Cameras? If you feel like you have the same values with them - go on. Me not.

Reply from Park Cameras

Dear Fred & Helen,

We're really sorry to have caused any offence and we'd like to help you out as I think there must be some confusion but more than happy to put something right if it is wrong. We certainly do not employ the tactics you are suggesting and try to offer the best value for our customers with competitive pricing and the best service from friendly photographers. The lens that you are referring to is indeed £1500 RRP on Sony's website and we have reduced it from this price to £1399. This is £50 less than a lot of our competitors and £100 less than Sony's website. We actually then offer a further discount when bought with the a7 III as a package for you.

We'd like to pick this up with you offline to get you a great deal for your needs. If you could get in touch with us at sales@parkcameras.com with your phone number then we can give you a call as I believe there may also be some confusion with Sony's A mount lens (which is also 50mm f/1.4 but not for this camera and is a lot cheaper) or another lens. We are very happy to hear so that we can resolve any issues but I can assure you that we have genuine UK stock from Sony UK and suppliers under £1200 as you say are quite possibly illegally importing the product from Hong Kong without paying VAT/ duty and then not offering a warranty from Sony UK (I'm sure you will have seen much of this in the news/ Panaroma, etc)

For clarity, we certainly don't treat any of our customers as "complete idiots" or in a bad way to rip them off - all of our customers are important to us, no matter how much they are spending with us and we are very proud of our ethics/ customer service. We also monitor prices across the internet daily in order to remain competitive but if there is an item we have missed then we are also grateful to hear from our customers so that we can put this right.

Many thanks,
Park Cameras Team

Review of Which?

Which? behave like scam themselves

Which? pretends to protect you from scammers but act like scammers themselves. On their website you can subscribe for paid membership but can't unsubscribe. Unsubscribing takes long time, enormous effort and even money (calls aren't free). Which? have deliberately set up their business this way in order to benefit from the difficulties they create for consumers. I believe the people behind Which? should face the justice first place.

By the way, the info you get behind their paywall is completely useless.
