From my own experience Dyson corded machines were actually quite good and lasted for years.

But with the modern cordless tech the company seems to have radically changed their philosophy and became very aggressive on planned obsolescence.

The Dyson cordless vacuums simply don't last. Precisely in the way described by many other reviewers here, our cordless Dyson worked for a couple of years. Then it suddenly went down the hill in a week, and now its motor cuts out intermittently. Dyson support says I either need a new battery which will cost me £60 or upgrade to a new vacuum which costs a fortune.

None of those options looks particularly attractive to me. Because the Dyson cordless vacuums are poorly designed. They are only useful on max power which means you get very little working time, in reality far from what's being advertised by Dyson. Their batteries don't last. They are generally fiddly and flimsy and their bins are awkward to empty.

With all the respect to the company, I wouldn't recommend modern Dyson products to anyone. They are not user-friendly, not environment-friendly and only designed with Dyson profit maximisation in mind.
