I had a very disappointing experience…
I had a very disappointing experience flying with Austrian Airlines on flight OS 367 from Vienna (VIE) to Paris (CDG).
I specifically paid extra for a carry-on luggage service to ensure space in the overhead bin near my seat . However, upon boarding, all overhead bins near the front were completely full—occupied largely by passengers who hadn't paid for the service.
When I calmly asked the cabin crew chief for assistance regarding the service I paid for, I was met with complete hostility and unprofessionalism. Instead of helping or managing the overhead space properly, he dismissively said "everyone paid for their ticket" and even threatened to kick me off the plane just for raising a legitimate complaint. My bag was ultimately forced to the very back of the aircraft.
Threatening passengers for expecting a service they paid for is unacceptable behavior for a flag carrier. Very poor customer service and total failure to deliver paid services.
Wonderful experience
We flew Austrian Airlines Business Class from Vilnius to Vienna and had a wonderful experience.
The new Aspire Lounge at Vilnius Airport was beautiful, comfortable, and very welcoming.
Our flight attendant was especially wonderful. She was incredibly sweet, attentive, and genuinely enjoyable to talk with. The food was good, and she made the flight feel warm and personal.
When we left the plane, she even gave us a small gift, which was such a thoughtful and unexpected gesture.
It was a short flight, but the excellent service made it a very enjoyable experience. Thank you to the crew, and especially to our lovely flight attendant, for making the journey so pleasant.
Terrible
Terrible, they write in the documents that they will send you information but they don't, and when you ask for it you have to fill in HUGE forms because they want you to get tired an quit. Plane almost always late or cancelled, always missing baggage and then you need them to send you the documents for dealing with this and then the circus starts. They do everything to not be held accountable by try to make you give up. It's hours of work to get some kind of compensation that other airlines gives you within minutes.
This is as close to criminal as yo can get. Avoid at all costs
Awful experience with the airline staff…
Awful experience with the airline staff - overbooked flight and then no communication on what to do or if I’d get a seat. They were rude to people who were boarding.
HORRIBLE!!!!!!!
HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!
Avoid it please. Take Ryanair / wizzair over this any day.
They are so so so strict and it feels like their baggage policies are crazy insane. You can only bring yourself / or your little tiny phone bag with you.
The customer service/ staff at the airport gate is also awful - it feels like they get rewarded based on the extra baggage fee they charge. Snakes. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!
Austria Airlines did not load anybody's luggage
The flight was late but the disaster was that NOBODY's luggage was loaded on the plane. However, the passengers we not informed of this failure, so everyone crowded around carousal #5 for over an hour, waiting for their luggage. Word finally filtered out that there was no luggage and we were directed to the service desk and instructed to load our boarding pass number into Austria Airlines service app, however, the app did not recognize our boarding number. The staffer we were working with told us she couldn't do anything about it and to talk to someone else. We waited an found a staffer who could take a paper service order. Our luggage is supposed to arrive a day later. We have our fingers crossed. Their track record so far is not encouraging.
my luggage arrived 3 days later,than I…
my luggage arrived 3 days later, than I in BKK.19/3 I send the claim,I was on the chat 2 times waiting 2 times ONLY1 and a 1/2 hour for my turn.I got the answer in 1 second: SOON we get in contact with you.I started 19/3 now it is beginning sept.Your flights were great, but this administration is horrible. You just do if I do not exist.the groundpeople in Vienne got me fast out of the plane to get fast to the next plane not to loose the other flight.that was great.BKK airport great service what to do about the luggage that came later. It is only this administration handling about the claim that is so bad.
Scammed by Austrian Airlines
We had a connecting flight from Brussels through Vienna to Vilnius. Both times the flight was operated by AirBaltic.
The first flight we had no problem but when it came to the connecting flight all of a sudden we are stopped and asked to fit our backpacks into a small wooden box. Subsequently when it did not fit we had to pay 70 euros for it!!!!
Explain to me how this only applies in this airport? We’ve taken countless flights with this small carry on backpack and had not a single issue, always storing it below the seat. But no all of a sudden some power tripping lady who thinks she is super important and saving the world demands that we shove it into a box in which I can guarantee you not even half of this plane could fit their overstuffed bags into.
If this is a policy - THEN APPLY IT TO EVERYONE !!!!!! And also everywhere.
This feels unfair and unjust and we will avoid Austrian airlines like the plague next time we’re considering flying anywhere.
OK for Economy Class
Good for economy flights only as the standards don’t vary much between airlines. For business and economy class the service and conditions are extremely outdated. Legacy and poor facilities while fares align with top notch airline services.
First time I had a flight with Austrian…
First time I had a flight with Austrian Airlines and its been nice even tough they had to cancel the flight due to strikes, they re-booked us straight away on the next available flight, I did spent 40minutes with the customer service on the phone trying to get another flight and they really tried to find another one, they did care about us, I've been told they will cover the expenses and they did, within the week I had the confirmation they are refunding the money I paid for hotel/taxi/food. Great airline! I felt like the took care of us.
Can't be legal...
Every time I try to go through booking when I select the fare the page reloads and the price doubles.
Terrible experience
Terrible experience. Over 50 passengers were left stranded on a Sarajevo to Vienna flight due to technical issues, and after waiting 3.5 hours, half remain unbooked because the airport ticket office cannot reach Austrian Airlines customer service by phone.
Think twice before volunteering to help…
Think twice before volunteering to help Austrian Airlines
After today's experience in Stockholm, we learned a rather expensive lesson: don't volunteer to check your cabin luggage when Austrian Airlines asks passengers to help because a flight is full.
The flight was overbooked, something we already knew the day before. At the gate, passengers were asked to voluntarily check their cabin bags to free up overhead space. We decided to cooperate.
Big mistake.
Our tickets included cabin luggage, and we travel more than 100,000 miles a year using these same bags without any issue. At the counter, Austrian Airlines ground staff first tried to claim that the bags did not meet the permitted dimensions. They did. Once they fit into the baggage sizer, the argument suddenly became the weight — yet the bags were not even weighed.
We even offered to move any heavier items into our personal bags, where we still had plenty of space, but the staff explicitly refused to let us do so.
The result? €70 charged per cabin bag simply because we had volunteered to check them.
What made the situation even more frustrating was seeing, once on board, that there was plenty of empty overhead-bin space.
The attitude of the ground staff was dismissive and arrogant, and other passengers witnessing the situation were equally surprised.
Our takeaway is simple: next time Austrian Airlines asks us to voluntarily check cabin luggage to help them manage a full flight, we will politely decline. Cooperating with the airline cost us €70 per bag. We won't make that mistake again.
Unjustified €70 fee for a service not provided +tone- deaf customer service
Title: Unjustified €70 fee for a service not provided + tone-deaf customer service
Flight: OS365 (Vienna VIE - Paris CDG) – PNR: 7YHG87 – Case: [E-Mail#OS-10044082]
EMD No.: 2574007472905
During boarding at Gate F22, I was charged €70 to check my carry-on bag into the hold (Gate Baggage Check-in). The gate agent instructed me to leave my tagged bag (Tag OS 566148) with the ramp agent in the jet bridge.
The issue:
Service not performed: No agent was present in the jet bridge. I had to carry my bag into the cabin myself and store it in the overhead compartment for the entire flight.
Disconnected customer service: Following my complaint, customer service (Ms. Turli) sent a canned response explaining the Basic fare rules, completely ignoring the actual issue: I was charged for a hold baggage check that never took place.
Retaining €70 for a service that was never delivered is unacceptable. I am requesting a full refund of this fee charged without consideration.
Terrible.
Respectfully they can kick rocks. they made check on my handbag. Talking about "full flight" THERE WAS SO MUCH OVER HEAD ROOM YOU CAN LAY DOWN IN THERE. I did not understand what the point of that was. All so they can mess I and not send it to my final location. So all my important things, clothes and jewelry and phone charger is floating around somewhere for absolutely no reason. I literally can't even enjoy my trip because of them. I wish I flew Air France like I originally planned. Or any other airline at this rate.
Extremely disappointing experience
Extremely disappointing experience with Austrian Airlines.
I was denied boarding because Austrian Airlines had overbooked the flight, and I subsequently submitted a compensation claim. Instead of properly processing and resolving my claim, Austrian Airlines has repeatedly refused to take responsibility for the case.
What makes this even more frustrating is that they kept telling me to contact Lufthansa instead. However, despite asking several times, they have failed to provide me with any contact information or a way to reach Lufthansa. The tickets were purchased directly through Austrian Airlines' website, and the flights in question were operated by Austrian Airlines.
I have now been going back and forth with their customer service for more than three months, without a proper resolution or even a clear explanation of how my compensation was calculated.
It is completely unreasonable to overbook a flight, deny a passenger boarding as a result, and then refuse to properly handle the compensation claim. If Austrian Airlines considers Lufthansa responsible for some part of the case, they should provide the passenger with a clear and usable point of contact rather than simply telling them to "contact Lufthansa" without providing any way to do so.
This has been an incredibly frustrating experience, and I am very disappointed with how Austrian Airlines has handled both the overbooking and the subsequent complaint.
EUR 70 well collected, evidence not provided
I travelled with the same cabin bag throughout my trip. Austrian Airlines accepted it on the outbound flight and even attached an approved cabin bag tag at Heathrow.
On the return journey, the same bag suddenly became "too large" and I was charged EUR 70.
Naturally, I asked Austrian Airlines to provide the measurements or evidence showing that my bag exceeded the published allowance.
The answer after months of correspondence?
Trust us, our internal review says we were right.
No measurements. No photographs. No explanation as to why the same bag was approved before and rejected later.
Apparently, proving that a passenger owes EUR 70 requires less evidence than proving why.
**Very poor customer service**

I left my brand-new Apple AirPods Max on Austrian Airlines flight OS369 at Paris CDG. The headset was later tracked inside the airport and then moved outside the airport the following day.
Despite several attempts to contact Austrian Airlines, I have received no meaningful assistance or follow-up.
Very disappointing customer service, especially for an item left on board their aircraft.
Absolute Worst Customer Service Airline
This airline deserves zero stars. They cancelled our flight without any notice and delayed our departure by almost 48 hours and are still declining to pay the required compensation of 600 euros per passenger (we were four including two children and a senior citizen)! The have sent several uncaring emails with excuse that the booking agency was responsible to notify us of cancellation and make alternate arrangements, which the booking agency denies being notified of the cancellation -but regardless European law requires the ticketing airline to compensate the passengers. They are incredibly rude and force us additional headache and stress to file to the European travel authority. Our experience was literally the worst customer service I have ever encountered. They additionally promised work excuse letter for the 2 day departure delay, but now will not provide! I wish I could somehow share their cold and uncaring email responses.
Booked a return flight for a family funeral. They cancelled my return without telling me.
I booked the trip on short notice for a family funeral. Already not a great circumstance to be flying in — the outbound flight was late and the seats were uncomfortable, so I already wasn't getting much for what I paid.
Then, the day I was due to fly home, I discovered my return booking had simply vanished. No cancellation email, no notification, nothing. When I contacted them, I was told that missing the outbound leg (for reasons outside my control) meant I was automatically marked as a no-show on the return flight too, and it had been cancelled — unilaterally, without a word to me.
This is apparently standard airline "no-show" policy, buried in the terms and conditions: miss one leg, lose the other, no refund, no notice. I booked two flights. I was ready and willing to use the second. They cancelled it without telling me and kept the money regardless. I have no way of knowing what happened to that seat, but it's hard not to wonder if it was simply resold.
I was eventually refunded the taxes — because they're legally required to — but the full fare is gone. For a service I never received and was never even told I'd lost.
This is completely legal. That doesn't make it right. It's a policy designed to quietly separate people from their money when they're least able to fight back — in my case, dealing with a death in the family. I won't be booking with them again, and I'd think hard before you do either.
