Customers frequently complained about exceptionally long delays in processing both health and financial claims, noting that payouts take weeks or even months without proper updates. Reviewers often experienced deeply frustrating support, describing phone lines with long wait times, endless department transfers, and dismissive treatment from unhelpful representatives. These specific consumers greatly appreciated the dedication of certain agents who took the time to understand their individual needs and answered questions clearly.

Called 3x with 15mins gap with their customer service. 1st one she said that the procedure code for estimate that I gave was wrong which is no issue to get the correct code in the clinic then calling back again and telling them the correct procedure code but this lady told me they need the estimate paper work to do that which previous customer service just told me to get the proper procedure code to check in their system if covered or not. They are not in the same page everytime I called.. do you have different work orientation. Soo frustrating!!!!

Horrible service

Manulife has been very disappointing! I was on STD for three months. When doctor prolonged my STD TO LTD, 3 weeks before it was due, I tried to reach out the account manager. While contacting CS and account manager, I was only able to get a reply 2 weeks after. They told me the doctors need to send them the documents which took +1 week then they said the LTD TAKES 10 days without making a decision. Therefore I have no payment for over 2 month because LTD ONLY pays 1 at the end of the month! Seriously!!
Their service is horrible with no reply!
Please avoid!

What a SHIT company, “date of experience “ it’s been almost 2 months of BS

What a SHIT company. I have been waiting for weeks to get my benefits, going on 2 months now. First off, I work for walmart. They hired my pt therefore I had to wait a YEAR, yes one year before you can get benefits (6 months for ft). I fill out my paperwork, send it off. I try to get extended benefits. I got an error… they know the error AND I still have it. I called when the pharmacist said my benefits were terminated. This is the beginning of oct, my year was Sept 18. I call. The guy tells me they are changing my status from pt to ft because I went full time Aug 26. He tells me everything will be fixed in 3-5 business days. That was a Monday, I called back 2 WEEKS LATER because NOTHING has changed, still no benefits. I get a lady who tells me it’s my fault. I didn’t finish applying for extended benefits. This is what someone put in my notes. I explained AGAIN the error I have gotten and still get when I’m trying to get benefits. The lady, who had her SCREAMING child in the back ground, tells me it will be another 3-5 business and was that ok. I said no that’s unacceptable. I have been waiting long enough. She then say I will email you in 24-48 hours, again Monday. Thursday afternoon I get an email from her saying THEY SHOULD HAVE AN UPDATE, UPDATE!, by Nov 2/26. 😡
I STILL HAVE NO BENEFITS. If someone knows how I can call Manulife and get an ENGLISH as a FIRST language speaking person, PLEASE let me know.
Do not go with this company, I would give 0 stars but it won’t let me.
BTW I had no choice, Walmart uses Manulife😡

My ex husband died in 2024

My ex husband died in 2024, leaving a Manulife life insurance policy on both our children, taken out in 1999, I was the co owner, even though I knew nothing about the policy . My children and I decided to cash out the policy ,neither of us could afford to take it on. Through a financial advisor we signed documents transferring the ownership to my son and myself so the tax payments would be divided and no go to only one of us. The money was spent as a down deposit on a condo for my son and my daughter paid off her student loans. To my horror in Feb I received a T5 for $60,000 all the funds in the policy. I immediately call Manulife, you CAN NOT talked to anyone in the tax department! I called the financial advisor who assisted us, he could not talk to the tax department. After lots of calls and emails we finally talked to a supervisor, who reiterated NO you can’t talk to the tax department but she would follow up. The tax dept was unrelenting. Tax filing was coming , so I filled my taxes and had to pay over $20000 in taxes. I appealed Manulifes decision and finally it was decided because my Exs death had triggered the change of ownership that his estate should pay the taxes not his ex wife. I got a revised T5 for $3,000. I requested a review of my 2025 taxes with CRA on August 18, still waiting! I was told today to call back Dec 3.
So thank you Manulife because of your pig headedness and in ability to communicate with your clients you have put me into hardship. I also want to add I’ve lost my OAS because i apparently earnt too much in 2025. You are a heartless big corporation , who cares nothing about regular people.

Just horrible

Just horrible. My financial advisor at another institution has full power of attorney on my investment accounts, including one at Manulife. The other financial institutions transferred out to my advisor's institution upon receiving the written authorization / POA. Except Manulife. They won't even respond to my advisor. Manulife ignores financial regulations regarding transfers out, just because they're looking for reasons to reject transfers out. And here's another catch: They refuse to transfer out the Manulife Mutual Funds in kind. They insist on liquidation before transfers out.

Bottom line: If you want to lose control of your money, let Manulife manage it for you. Otherwise, stay the heck away from them for your own good! Just horrible.

Horrible experience with Manulife

Horrible experience with Manulife. They very obviously make filing a claim as onerous and challenging as possible to discourage their customers from making their claim. Unfortunately I did not do my research when I used them for my travel insurance but I hope that people reading these reviews will realize that they are AWFUL insurance providers and take their business elsewhere !

Extremely frustrating experience

Extremely frustrating experience with Manulife. Their website is not user-friendly, especially when trying to find the right forms to submit a claim. The dental claim form I have is geared toward general dental work, such as tooth repairs and other dental procedures, and doesn't seem appropriate for orthodontic retainers. I tried calling to ask one simple question about how to submit this type of claim, but reaching a real person is practically impossible. The automated phone system sends you around in circles with no clear way to speak to a representative. Manulife seriously needs to improve its website and customer service. Getting a simple answer shouldn't be this difficult! I basically gave up and ended the call.

Worst Insurance Out there

Even if you have full coverage for medical devices that are prescribed, Manulife refuses to direct bill. So if you cannot afford a 5k device, you are screwed. Every other insurance company will direct bill, but not these people. Horrible customer service. Makes sense why its a 1.2/5 rating.

According to my experience

According to my experience, private investigators were sent to follow me in white vans. Individuals then entered my home through what was presented as a “home upgrade” program. While inside, they conducted what I believe were misleading or unauthorized tests and drilled holes in my walls, after which they never returned. I believe these activities were intended to conduct further surveillance and, in my view, to “stack the deck against me.”

The individuals I associate with these events are Hillary Steele, Natalie Gamarnik, and Pamela Beech. My file was subsequently reviewed through IME assessments involving Dr. Delyth Roberts of Nova Scotia and Dr. Dave Clark Young of British Columbia. I believe these reviews were used in a way that made it more difficult for me to pursue a complaint with the CPSO. I live in Ontario.

I am deeply concerned about what I believe was a deliberate and coordinated effort by the insurance company to investigate and discredit me rather than fairly assess my Long-Term Disability claim. I consider the circumstances extremely serious and believe they warrant a thorough, independent investigation.

Extremely Disappointing Experience with…

Extremely Disappointing Experience with Manulife Bank — Serious Security Concerns

We have been with Manulife Bank for less than a year, and it has already turned into a nightmare. This is our primary joint account, which we use to pay our bills.

One of us received an email notification stating that a new phone number had been added to our account. Neither of us had authorized this change!

We immediately called the bank and were told that someone had correctly answered all the security questions and added the phone number. As a result, our account was blocked, leaving us unable to pay our bills or access our money.

When we called Manulife again, we were told that only a "minor change" had been made to our account — JUST A PHONE NUMBER!

Are you serious?! In today's world, phone numbers are used for two-factor authentication and can provide access to sensitive financial information. How can a bank consider an unauthorized phone number change a minor issue?

Instead of protecting our account and resolving the situation promptly, Manulife has left us locked out of our own money and unable to meet our financial obligations.

We have completely lost confidence in this bank's security and customer service.

We are planning to close our account and never deal with Manulife Bank again.

An absolutely unacceptable experience.

On LTD with these people

On LTD with these people. Second time battle with these people. They tell me I have to apply for CDPP. Basically Corporate Welfare for them. What they don't say is what ever CDPP pays you Manulife deducts out of what they pay you. Why do Tax payers need to fund a billion dollar profit company? I paid these people 30 years and my company paid these people for 30 years. This is private insurance not tax payer insurance. I had 3 strokes so I am off work. But the way they treat it is like this. Example. So I crash my car the insurance company says thanks for your money take it up with the Tax payer? Then they tell me if I don't apply they will assume and deduct the amount they think I should get. In my contract doesn't say anywhere that it's compulsory to apply for CDPP. They send me the CDPP form with another form they think I am going to sign allowing them to change the original contract. Go F yourself. Not happening. They deduct a dime i will see you in court. Likely costing alot more then they planned on saving. I say a 2 million dollar or more lawsuit.

Terrible customer service

Terrible customer service - I have been dealing with a very basic issue for 6 long months. I started this process when my mother was alive, she passed away and I am still dealing with the issue. They will give you forms to sign and tell you to wait, then by magic they tell you oops! more forms to sign and you have to wait even longer instead of giving you all the forms needed up front. Terrible people work there.

Never buy Manu life insurance

Meand my wife (Senior Citizens) bought travel insurance when we were going to India and we got sick and got admitted in the hospital in India and paid huge amount. I made sure that I have all the receipts and when we came back and when we sent the claim we never received not even a single cent and it has been almost 2 years now. We got the insurance from Costco and paid 1600 dollars. I will never refer to any one for Manu life with such bad experience and their customer support is pathetic. Everytime when we call they will say that they wil call back and will never return the call

5 time calls in 3 months for claims payment

Over the past 3 months, I’ve called Manulife 5 times to follow up on my claims that I had sent through my LifeStyle Account and every time a representative opens a case number but no payment! Manulife should pay me at least $500 which is long due now. I pay for my coverage so I can use it in time but with Manulife on time payment doesn’t mean anything!
