Disappointing experience

I have been with the Queensland Country Bank in its various incarnations since the late 1980s. I have been happy with their service until just recently. In August I purchased a course from Domestika and was advised that I had been enrolled in a free 30 day trial of the Domestika plus service. I cancelled this service on the last day of the period. A couple of days later PayPal advised that they were putting through a $583A payment for a Domestika subscription. It wasn’t showing as a pending payment on my account so I contacted the bank and asked them not to pay it. Despite several requests the payment was taken out of my pension leaving me desperately short of funds to buy food and pay bills. They told me I could cancel my debit card but as PayPal had my bank account details there was no point and I would have been left with no way to access my funds for up to a week without driving into town to the nearest branch nearly 45 minutes away. I raised a dispute with PayPal but after a month of supposed review have just been advised I lost the money forever.

Thank you for contacting us regarding the $583 charge from Domestika. We understand how concerning unexpected charges can be, especially when you believed the subscription had been cancelled.

Pre-authorised transactions, such as those initiated during free trials, are agreements made directly between the cardholder and the merchant. Unfortunately, we are unable to cancel or block these transactions once they have been approved by the merchant.

However, if you believe the charge was made in error, you may be able to dispute it.

How to Dispute the Charge:
Confirm the cancellation: Locate any confirmation emails or screenshots showing that you cancelled the Domestika subscription before the trial ended.
Contact Domestika: Reach out to their customer support and request a refund. Provide any evidence of cancellation and ask for written confirmation of their response.
Gather documentation: Save all correspondence with Domestika, including dates, times, and responses.
Contact us to lodge a dispute: Once you have attempted to resolve the issue with Domestika, please contact our team with:
• A brief summary of the issue
• Evidence of cancellation
• Any communication with Domestika
• A copy of the transaction from your statement
We’ll then begin the formal dispute process on your behalf. Please note that disputes can take up to 45 days to resolve, depending on the merchant’s response. There is also a $35 fee charged by VISA which is passed onto you if the transaction is found to be authorised. This is why it is important to obtain the evidence mentioned above.

We’re here to support you through this process. If you need help gathering the documentation or submitting the dispute, feel free to reach out by calling our Contact Centre on 1800 075 078.

Thank you

We got our Mortgage through QCB - Townsville. This was about 14 months ago. The process was seamless. It all "appeared" to be automated and we just had to go sign - where they didnt rush us and they explained they whole process. Havnt looked back.

Great choice!

My partner recently joined QCB to see if it would help him save money and oh it has! The smart budget handles his bills so well I’m thinking of joining myself.
And the customer service is amazing, they’re so helpful and welcoming!
