Mercari/ Buyee's System Causes Buyers To Suffer
I’ve used Mercari/ Buyee a couple of times, and whenever there’s a problem with a product I bought, they don’t help at all. They make you go through a procedure, then say it’s not their responsibility and won’t assist you in contacting the seller—Buyee blocks you from doing so in the first place.
It’s becoming obvious that the damage comes from how the item is shipped, and buyers end up losing money and time. Buyee charges high shipping rates and a handling fee, yet the service is still poor. Mercari JP, please partner with better companies—or simply let sellers and buyers trade directly.
I thought Mercari US was bad but seems…
I thought Mercari US was bad but seems it's the same or worse on the new US version Mercari Japan. They required me to renew my passport in order to use their website. I am too poor to pay hundreds just to use their site....and I thought normally Japanese are polite but Mercari lives up to it's name with unhelpful and super rude.
Mercari is the only marketplace where…
Mercari is the only marketplace where the main goal seems to be closing the transaction as quickly as possible. You are the only platform that uses the term “Rate” as the mechanism for completing a transaction instead of simply calling it “complete transaction” or “finish order.”The “Rate” feature is nothing more than a trigger. An honest buyer leaves a comment there and reports that, for example, the seller sold them junk instead of a new item. You leave a rating for that seller — because that is what the “Rate” option is for. And then the trigger is activated. The buyer is trapped. The transaction is automatically completed. Mercari is substituting key concepts and thereby intentionally misleading buyers, effectively deceiving them in order to accelerate transaction completion.
The platform uses the verb “rate” in the sense of “to evaluate” or “to leave a rating,” for example: “Please rate the seller.” However, it simultaneously relies on the noun “rate,” which typically refers to a fee, tariff, or charge. This inconsistent and ambiguous use of terminology creates confusion for users and may lead them to misunderst
Site was alright, not familiar with the App usage.
Not bad, but not great. They offered an English translated version of the app, but only parts of it were actually fully translated.
I don't mind stumbling through the Japanese on my own, but the back and forth got to be a little annoying.
terrible
terrible, almost scam. the service dont do anything to help you, system too complicated. they even took the money from a refund, without giving me. when you write them, they always answer that they don't know. If they don't know anything about their job, they should change job.
Some sellers on this site don't follow…
Some sellers on this site don't follow through with there sales. Seller can pull a buy at any given time with no reason! You are unable to rate a seller other than positive feedback or unable to leave feedback at all. With that said, there are still many good sellers on this site, but the bad sellers brings it all down with no repercussions! I only buy on this site anymore when I absolutely can't find what I'm looking for elsewhere, even then I still think twice in doing so. Its kinda ashamed as I'm sure macari is losing many sales due to the lack of caring what they have created for both the seller and diffently the buyers!
Terrible UI/UX and stupidly bad search functionality
So, it's easy (sometimes too easy) to buy stuff on Mercari (site or app), and there is lots of stuff for sale, so I occasionally use it. However, the search process is unbelievably horrible and there are way too many bad sellers on the platform. It's basically bad engineering and bad UI/UX by a company that only evaluates based on the bottom line. As long as there isn't a better option in Japan (and it wouldn't be hard to build a better site/app) they will stay shitty and ignore customers.
Affordable and Convenient Option for Everyday Items
While I personally wouldn’t choose Mercari for purchasing high-end branded goods due to concerns about authentication, I’ve found it to be a very practical and budget-friendly option for daily necessities.
Especially when it comes to children’s clothing, household items like hair dryers, Wi-Fi modems, remote controls, books, fashionable bags & accessories or even smartphones, Mercari offers a wide variety at accessible prices.
For those looking to save on everyday items or find second-hand goods in good condition, this platform can be a great alternative. Japanese vendors are usually prompt and delivery happen within days.
Just be sure to check seller ratings and item descriptions carefully— I believe that when used thoughtfully, Mercari can be a really useful resource.
When buying pre-loved items it is key to have some understanding that we will be receiving won't be brand new conditions
Mercari Japan is a dangerous platform…
Mercari Japan is a dangerous and biased platform with many suspicious accounts and fake items. Buyer’s and sellers should understand the risks. Additionally, Mercari is very slow to stamp out these obvious fake accounts/items, and only focus on making profit. International buyers and sellers also face discrimination and frustration. There is very little support, and if so, super slow, and AI generated. When I transferred money to my Japan Post Bank for the first time, Mercari restricted my account, and then, told me a week later that they will close the account for no reason; totally unacceptable and unprofessional. I had 400 positive comments and no negative feedback. I was told to make a new account and start from zero. WTF !!! Two years of trust and excellent customer feedback down the drain for no reason. Shame on you Mercari Japan, and the worst customer support ever 😡
Poor functions
Catherine Kowal katkowal91 nasty…
Catherine Kowal katkowal91 nasty seller, the item smelled like mold & she advised me the items are sold AS IS. Really what kind of low life dirty ???? am I dealing with here & why does mercari allow rude scumbags to sell and for free. It's the buyer paying fees to buy, supporting the site by spending money! Buy on eBay where a seller like this nasty fish wouldn't last.
I don't know what this MECARI IS NEVER…
I don't know what this MECARI IS NEVER TRIED TO ORDER FROM THEM BUT THIS MORNING I CHECKED MY CARD AND THEY TRIED TO GET ME FOR $60 SHAME ON THEM GLAD I DONT USE THAT CARD SO IT WASN'T $60 ON IT
SHAME ON THEM
Absolute worst online experience ever
Absolute worst online experience ever. Worst customer service ever. I have a 100,000 yen in my account which I am not able to withdraw. I keep getting an error message. When I try to contact for service I get a chatbot reply. And then they say my bank account has a problem. I have been using this Japanese bank account for 20 years for automatic withdrawals and deposits without a single problem. I will probably lose my money.
HORRIBLE customer service
Customer service is absolutely rubbish.
I had to contact them as my item got rejected for selling for no reason.
The answers I received from customer service were all chatbotish- and they close the issue without solving it.
Stay away from them. You'll just waste your time.

Bought a bundle deal of three items
Bought a bundle deal of three items. Seller forgot to ship the boots in the package, seller realized mistake, took full responsibility and wanted to ship me the item. Mercari closed our communication chat because the package showed delivered even though one item was missing they closed the deal, the seller and i are trying to do right. Honest seller, but mercari is horrible and is preventing us from communicating. They dont read English very well. This is based out of Japan e commerce and does not comply with American regulations.
TERRIBLE.
It's a great place if you want to sell your unused items. However, they will find sneaky ways to steal your money. Notification of "your points are expiring" meant not "you have some points that are going to be expired", it means "we will deduct your real money". It's not only me who feels angry about this, I have seen many people experiencing it too.
Also, transferring your own money to your bank account is extremely DIFFICULT. They make it in a way that it's almost impossible to do so. I tried to transfer money to my bank account and was returned to my account for no reason, even though every information is correctly added, and the service fee was charged. Customer service replied to my inquiry in a way that it was my fault that the transaction didn't go through. They refused to answer simple questions and Im extremely frustrated by them. And guess what I'm not the only one who's experiencing this.
Mercari Are A Good Company.
Mercari, Japan, are a brilliant Company with several websites. They have good ideals and want to present kinder living, and value cryptoassets, and have eco policies. And they give good council to their employees in a world of e-commerce. As an Artist, PRS-MCPS Lifetime Member & British Libraries & Republic of Ireland (European Union) Author, I value Mercari's website statements of ideals.
