Ho stipulato la polizza Heymondo "Viaggio Tranquillità" per un viaggio in Irlanda, tranquillizzato dalla promessa di assistenza "24 ore su 24, 365 giorni all'anno". Peccato che quando ne ho avuto davvero bisogno — un sospetto di urgenza chirurgica, ore serali, sintomi seri — abbia chiamato il numero di assistenza più volte senza che rispondesse nessuno.
Sono finito da solo al pronto soccorso locale, per fortuna in un paese UE con sanità pubblica gratuita, altrimenti non oso immaginare la situazione con costi ospedalieri a mio carico e zero supporto dalla parte che avrei dovuto pagare apposta per questo.
Fortunatamente si è risolto tutto per il meglio, ma il problema non è l'esito — è che l'assicurazione, nel momento clou per cui l'ho comprata, semplicemente non c'era. Un'assicurazione viaggio che non risponde al telefono in un'emergenza serale è, di fatto, un servizio che non funziona.
Non consiglio, a meno che non abbiate intenzione di curarvi da soli e sperare che l'assicurazione sia solo un pezzo di carta.

I took out the Heymondo travel insurance for a trip to Ireland, reassured by the promise of assistance "24 hours a day, 365 days a year". Too bad that when I actually needed it — a suspected surgical emergency, late evening, serious symptoms — I called the assistance number multiple times and got no answer whatsoever.
I ended up going to the local ER on my own, luckily in an EU country with free public healthcare, otherwise I don't even want to imagine facing hospital costs on my own with zero support from the very company I'd paid specifically for that.
Fortunately everything worked out fine, but the issue isn't the outcome — it's that the insurance simply wasn't there at the exact moment it was supposed to matter. A travel insurance that doesn't answer the phone during an evening emergency is, in practice, a service that doesn't work.
I don't recommend it, unless you're prepared to handle emergencies on your own and hope the insurance is just a piece of paper.

Per un’emergenza mi hanno detto che non c’è alcun ospedale convenzionato e che dovevo pagare io e chiedere un rimborso — rimborso di cui non esiste alcun canale funzionante. Nessuna assistenza reale, nessuna fiducia. Sconsiglio.

Annual policy, already let down in the first month. Before buying, the website advertised a reimbursement channel in the app: it doesn’t exist, neither in the app nor on the site. Emails unanswered for a week. For an emergency I was told there is no partner hospital and that I had to pay myself and claim a refund — a refund for which no working channel exists. No real support, no credibility. I do not recommend it.

In all honesty, though, it is a little frustrating: I had already tried to contact you earlier by email, without any response, and also through the bot in your app, again without response. Unfortunately, it was only now, after posting this review, that I received any attention. In addition, the reimbursement channel that was advertised is not available, neither on the website nor in the app — my expectation when purchasing was different, and I think it is important that this is clear.
As for what happened: we were about 50 minutes from Buenos Aires, and the two centres provided were in Buenos Aires, far from our location, so the video consultation took place that same day. During it I was prescribed the chemical formula of a medication; I went to the pharmacy and bought it. On that same call I took the opportunity to ask about Rio de Janeiro, our next stop, and I was told there was no partner hospital or reference there at all.
That was exactly my main concern: on one hand, no contact hospital in Rio de Janeiro; on the other, a reimbursement process that was far from transparent. If something had happened there, I would have been left with no reference at all. It is that combination that left me feeling so insecure.
I will proceed to submit the payment receipt confirming the purchase of the medication in the region near Buenos Aires, through the channels I have been given.

Upon reviewing the case, we can confirm our customer care team has tried to reach you via phone to discuss everything personally and better understand what happened, but unfortunately, we were unable to reach you. We have therefore also contacted you by email and would be grateful if you could reply with a suitable time for us to call you. Our opening hours are Monday to Friday, from 09:00 to 18:00, GM+1.
After reviewing the case with IRIS Global, we understand that when you contacted the assistance team on 11 July, you were provided with details of two medical centres. As both were some distance from your location, a medical video consultation was arranged instead, which took place that same day.
We have also been informed that paying upfront was not confirmed as necessary. The assistance team explained that, should a specialist appointment be required, they would first try to arrange it with a suitable medical provider. Reimbursement would only have been considered as an alternative if no appropriate provider or availability could be found.
Nevertheless, we apologise for the dificulties encountered when trying to submit your claim and for the delay in receiving a response. Our Customer Care team has since sent you detailed instructions explaining how to submit the required documentation directly to the insurance company.
We sincerely regret the frustration this experience has caused. We would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you, clarify any outstanding concerns and assist you with the next steps.

What really impressed me was the follow-up: after the visit they called me and sent me a message to check if I was okay and whether the care I received had been thorough.

After calling the insurance company, we received immediate assistance and they booked an appointment for us at a specialized clinic. The medical visit went well. Very poor experience with Heymondo
Very poor experience with Heymondo. When I actually needed assistance, the support was slow, unresponsive, and not helpful. The whole process felt unnecessarily complicated and far from the reliability you expect from a travel insurance company. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this service.
