The process was easy; however, it would be great if you showed a bill next to the rates so we could easily work out the correct usage charges.

Utter Foolishness!

Utter Foolishness!
I just signed up to EnergyAustralia so you can view and pay your Bills online
But they forced an email verification code as well as your username and password. Maybe they are concerned someone else will pay your Bill! You do NOT need two factor verification for this!
And their email code takes a few minutes to come so it just wastes your time.
BUT WAIT!
They say you can now set up other authentication methods and one was SMS which would be faster. So I set that up only to find you CANNOT then turn off the email one.
So now you have THREE factor authentication. Are they kidding? Username, password, email code, and SMS code!!!
Stupidity and foolishness at its worst!
So I obviously selected turn off SMS. And even though I had to use username and password and their email authentication already to be here, they made me do it again to turn it off! How can I trust people that have no sign of intelligence like this?
This is not a good start!

1 star – Unclear scope, poor communication, and no cost breakdown

I accepted EA's quote for a solar install with a switchboard upgrade. I was already an EA electricity customer and thought keeping everything with one provider would make any follow-ups easier. Unfortunately, it went the other way.

Before I signed, a contractor came out to verify the quote and added a $550 variation. On install day, EA had supplied the wrong inverter to their subcontractor, so the solar couldn't go in. I agreed to keep the equipment in my garage while they sorted it out.

The subcontractor finished part of the switchboard upgrade that day. The part I'd specifically asked for needs a Level 2 electrician, and it wasn't done. When I followed up, EA told me it had never been in scope. The signed agreement only says "full switchboard upgrade" and "switchboard variation", with no detail. I'm a licensed electrician myself, and the Level 2 work was the only part of the switchboard job I couldn't do myself. I would never have paid someone else for the rest.

I asked several times what the upgrade and the variation actually covered. I only got generic explanations of what a variation is, not what mine was for. I cancelled the solar and asked for the equipment to be collected and for an itemised invoice. One call came about pickup. It was never confirmed, and nobody turned up. The equipment then sat in my garage for almost two months.

The next thing I heard was a payment reminder. Their disputes team claimed they had tried several times to collect the gear and I hadn't been available, which isn't accurate. Once I pushed back, the equipment was collected within days. I still haven't received a breakdown of what I'm being charged for. All I got was a list of tasks done on the day, which doesn't explain the upgrade cost or the variation.

I've since gone with another solar company, which quoted, scoped, and finished solar plus a battery within about two weeks.

If you're considering EA, get a detailed, itemised scope in writing before you sign anything.

Single person living on my own with a 1400-1500 bill for 3 months.

I would not recommend this company at all. Reason as per below.
I am a single person living on my own and my fist bill was $841 for three months. Over this time I only used the aircon a handful of times and was hardly home. Expensive but ok. No problem there.

The people next door moved out. Then the trouble began.
I was sent a letter saying my power was going to be disconnected despite having paid my bill. I called, confirming it was paid and meter numbers etc. Second letter was sent saying it was going to be disconnected again for a number that doesn't even exist at the address. Went over it again.
The last bill was for just under $1500 for the number that didn't exist at the address (assuming its the number I called about twice). Called to be informed there was nothing they could do a part from refer it on and that I would need to get the meter numbers etc from an address that I no longer live at. It is around a 4 hour drive each way which I had to repeat a number of times... the person I spoke to informed me there weren't any notes about the meter numbers which I had called about twice.
I now have to call on the day the bill is due for an extension while this is being sorted. Why can't they extend it while they are sorting their mess out?
While the people you call at there contact centre are helpful and polite I would avoid the stress this company created. Being polite and helpful yet leaving no notes about the incorrect meter number for the address etc not once but twice??? Very helpful for the next person at their end who has to deal with the next call...

A deceased estate and a deplorable…

A deceased estate and a deplorable company with NO bereavement department, Charging a disconnection fee to my deceased mother, What a disgusting company with zero morals, empathy, i speak with them as executor to finalize the account, i go to bank have cheques drawn from the estate to pay them, then when i open my po box to retrieve the cheques, i find they have sent it to a debt collector, my mums farm is solar on grid with the only supplier here being you, guess what, this property is now mine and now there is an auto generator being installed as i type this, and will never pay energy Australia a single cent as customer ever, ever. let the air smoke with the smell of a diesel generator, id rather pay SHELL.
Its not even worth selling power to the grid, this system is huge and its only need for any grid assistance is during long periods of extreme storm weather, this 400 acre sheep farm has now been gear to not ever have to rely on an energy retailer, no town water only bore and roof and river, mum set us up 150% thanks mum, i love you. no mortgage, no bills, no problems.

I have been an energy australia…

The frustrating thing about Energy Australia is being unable to speak to someone in an Australian call centre now.

I struggled with the language barrier when contacting their call centre in the Phillipines. When I requested to talk to someone in Australia I was told that Energy Australia no longer have domestic call centres.

I have now switched retailers.

Energy Australia- what a poor…

Energy Australia- what a poor performing company. I have 6 accounts - 4 business and 2 residential- with energy Australia these need to be segregated by different email addresses and logins. I’ve spent approx 10 hours over the past 8 weeks trying to be able to manage these accounts online.
I’ve been with the for about 7 years but with every alteration it’s like you’re a new customer so every time I talk to them about one account I have to go over or through the details of all 6 accounts. Two different logins residential and business - they can’t be put together and no one with give you an honest answer which section has the better rates.
You can’t talk to a supervisor and for some reason each contact gives you a different answer.
I have never seen such an inefficient, unproductive company as Energy Australia.
The service is terrible and I hope like me you take your business elsewhere.

Will never ever return to Energy…

Will never ever return to Energy Australia even if my energy/power source was free! Literally (years ago) my account started with paying quarterly an approx $300-400 to where it was recently to approx $1300-1500 quarterly. My home is filled with led everything and of an evening we only use what lighting we require which ain’t many let me tell you, thus the reason why I can’t understand?

I’ve swapped to another supplier and from what I can see upon my app, it’s stating that my quarterly bill outcome will be an approx $500. 😃 So where did Energy Australia find the other approx $1000….

Call it what you will but in today’s day and age there is no such thing as loyalty for being a long term customer, your only a number as the saying goes! Just remember that folks!!

Much, much happier now as I will save an approx $1000 every three months and that’s not taking into account summer approaching and the ducted a/c going. Going off history, I’m thinking the summer period bill would have been eye watering and thank God I made the switch elsewhere…

Oh! And just before I leave you sll with this info, I thought that by having a smart meter, everything is meant to be accurate as the meter is supposed to throw off signals back to base every 5-10 seconds letting Energy Australia know specifically what’s going on within each and every household of usage etc….upon myself offering them notice of my intention to leave, I all of a sudden about a fortnight later had a credit offered of approx $500 and the excuse on paper says:your bill was calculated using incomplete information and for that reason I was overcharged. We apologise gor the inconvenience!
Yes, but in any case the bill that they stuffed up had to be paid, and I can’t imagine if I never had left, nothing would of been investigated and I’d have kept being ripped off…forever in the day.Shifty as!

How dare they ! Never, ever again !

Terrible experience

Terrible experience, lied to the customer that the power had been connected. A few hours later, still no power. I called the distributor and they confirmed they had not received the service orders from EAz

Misleading promo

I signed up on the basis of their ad for free Disney+. After receiving the Welcome Pack, I asked in chat when the activation link for Disney+ would be sent, and knowing I lived in QLD, was told "2 Weeks". About 3 weeks later, I enquired in chat and was told "It's NSW only". I asked if they would refund the difference in cost between them and the lower price I was paying, and was told no because the T&Cs said it was NSW only. When I asked if he could show me where it was stated in the T&Cs, he replied "I don't know". I escalated it, and the Customer Resolutions Consultant sent an email saying it was "clearly outlined". When I replied asking if she could show me where, I did not receive a response, and I needed to go to the ombudsman.

No staff member actually knows what's…

No staff member actually knows what's going on. You just get transferred between departments for average 40 minute hold in total. Stay away!
Go with a small provider or a company that trains staff to not leave you on hold and flick you to the next person.

Just select your new plan online yourself !

I originally rang Energy Australia, identified myself and after confirming my needs was told that the operator could send me a link to complete the transfer to a new plan myself.
This I agreed to, however I could have done the whole transaction myself without spending 10 minutes on the phone. Not sure why the letter sent to me telling me my discount was about to expire said I could call Energy Australia to choose a new plan.
Having said this the operator was most helpful and I’m happy to stay with Energy Australia
