Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 172 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. People frequently complained about soaring subscription prices, unexpected monthly billing increases, and recurring payment issues that made the service very costly. Consumers also struggled to reach helpful support, often encountering unhelpful overseas representatives or experiencing difficulties when trying to cancel their contracts. However, some customers also noted that specific staff members provided genuinely helpful and professional assistance during service calls. Reviewers appreciated knowledgeable technicians and agents who resolved connection issues efficiently and treated their homes with great respect. A few people mentioned that these polite employees made a positive difference despite the widespread company problems.

HORRIBLE Prices & Lousy Customer Service

We were with DirecTV for over 20 years. Their monthly costs keep going up constantly so we decided to switch to Dish. Our similar package with Dish is over $80.00/mth less than DirecTV & even after the 2 year contract with a fixed rate, our bill will still be $60.00/mth less. And when I called to cancel, DirecTV REFUSES to prorate our final bill even though we have only used 13 days in the current billing cycle. They also said they will not send a box to return their equipment until the end of the billing cycle so we have to store THEIR equipment??? Maybe we should charge THEM a storage fee since they REFUSE to prorate our current bill so we will be paying almost $90.00 for NOTHING??? Add to that, the *new* receiver they sent us last year after the receiver we had quit working was manufactured in 2010 so it was 15 years old when we received it. No wonder our picture quality is so much better with Dish plus their receiver was overheating.

Zero stars

Zero stars. Minus 10 stars. They just suck in every way. They can’t even spell the word ‘service’! And they inundate you with annoying advertisement emails with no option to unsubscribe. True scum!
Bastards.

For $140 a month I don't get why I have…

For $140 a month I don't get why I have to watch 10 minute commercial breaks during On Demand videos. They should eliminate On Demand content and lower the price. The only thing I watch is NFL games and now they're disappearing into other streaming services. No bueno.

promotionals

My promotional end on September 2nd. I canceled the promotional two days before the promotional end date. My bill jumped tremendously because my billing cycle started on the 28th of the month. I'm still being charged for the promotional at a prorated rate. Trickery. Unfair and underhanded advertising.

I have had the same recurring problem…

I have had the same recurring problem with my service for almost 2 years now. Repair people come out, but the problem is never fixed. Direct TV uses 3rd party contractors so they don't give a damn about providing good customer care. Additionally, they raise prices regularly and being a long term customer means nothing. You have to call to renegotiate the " discounts" every few months. Customer service is a joke! Basically EVERYTHING ABOUT DIRECT TV IS HORRIBLE. Last straw is that I've been without TV for 6 days now, with no end in sight. I'm dumping them finally. They have streaming available, but don't tell you that because it's cheaper and easier. CROOKS .

Was w them 9 years. Service totally stopped working and could not get help at all to fix. Called shifted to AI prompts, they tried to sell me more stuff instead of getting my service working and could care less that my service was broken! I’d NEVER recommend them! Worst customer service experience of my entire life. Trust me, they could care less. entire leadership of DTV should be ashamed and fired! We moved on w Spectrum same day I canceled.

Poor Business practices, particularly when serving our Seniors

What a sham. Or should I say a Scam?
Direct TV has “policies” that don’t fit real life.
And there are no concessions to help our seniors through their unforgiving process.

My mother who is 84 years old with memory issues recently canceled a credit card not remembering she had her Direct tv bill on it. One bill- one day late- they cut off her service.

The timing of this coincided with her having heart surgery and being in the hospital. The account was in her name.

My father called and tried to pay the bill and was told he was unable to do that without her authorization.

He went to the local AT&T store where he had signed up for DIRECTV and tried to do it in person and was told the same.

The service was turned off on the 21st of the month.

On the 27th, when I was able to help them, make a call and authorize my father as another account owner and was able to help them authorize a different type of payment that had to happen online based on DIRECTV’s processes we were told that this would pay them in full through 27 September.

My parents had decided to cancel the service. We were told that the surface was prepaid through the 27th of each month and regardless of them canceling service. They would have to pay through 27 September. I pointed out that they shut their service off the date the bill didn’t get paid. That means that the company is requiring them not only to pay for a month ahead in order to cancel but also for a week of service that wasn’t provided.

We were told that yes that’s the way it is. I asked to speak to a manager which we were not connected to.

At that time, the Customer Service route had to explain all of the terms of cancellation which included the idea that they would need to sound equipment back or be charged $120 per TV that had some equipment attached to it. We asked how they would get this return label that he said he would send and he explained that the only way to send it through an email. He said it had be sent to the email on the Acct account.

If this isn’t already a challenge for most people over 80 years old, when we hung up and I helped them look for it. There was an email explaining that when DIRECTV first issued the boxes for the TVs, there would have been a return label provided. The email goes on to say that if you don’t have that return label, you’ll need to call the customer service number again.

We proceeded to attempt to call them for this and we received by their AI agent. After another eight minute hold trying to get to a human agent, the phone was disconnected.

We will try again later today and I will not leave town until this matter is resolved for my parents but company policies need to match their customers needs and abilities within reason. I find these policies and practices unreasonable.

We live in a society with a growing number of elderly. I find this a poor Practice for how to treat people who deserve the respect of the people who are running our current companies.

Not every Senior has someone who can help them on hand at all times. This is a shameful practice.

NFL Network is now Telemundo.

I'm watching the New York Giants on NFL Network Channel 212 - next thing I know I am on Channel 47, Telemundo. So I go back to the guide, and manually tune to channel 212. It comes up on NFL network for a second and then BACK to Telemundo. Unfortunately, my Spanish isn't good enough to follow the game. Nice going Direct TV!

Customer Service?

Direct TV's main asset is the ability to fast forward through commercials. Otherwise, mostly reruns etc. Their billing department is terrible. Have been trying to resolve a billing issue for six months and get a different answer every time. They wanted to charge $5 per page to show what their records say. Looking for another carrier.

Terrible service

Terrible service. They couldn't resolve not being able to record network tv shows that I've recorded for years. They told me to buy a new TV ( tv is a smart LG tv 7 yrs old) I have checked with Dish and can get their service for $100 less/mo and talk to a real person if I have trouble instead of AI. Check all possibilities before you sign up with Direct TV

Worst service ever.

We get DirecTV through some sort of bulk resale service between our building and our Internet provider. It's a nightmare. Half the channels don't work and when I call for support I'm told the escalation will take a couple days. When I call back the escalation will take two weeks. Then the conclusion is the channel that is supposed to be included isn't included. Garbage. Stay away.

Direct TV Review

Direct TV Review

I’ve never experienced something so frustrating when I’m literally trying to pay my bill. I changed banks and needed to update my payment information, and it took over an hour going back and forth between the DIRECTV app and my TV just to update my card.

When I finally called customer service, I was told it could take 24 hours to update—or I could call Roku. Why should I have to contact another company? I’m doing business with DIRECTV, so DIRECTV should handle the payment process from start to finish.

The most frustrating part is that I’m trying to pay them, yet they make it unnecessarily difficult. There was absolutely no sense of urgency or ownership from customer service. A simple payment update should not turn into an hour-long ordeal.

Very disappointing customer service and a terrible customer experience. DIRECTV needs to make this process easier and take responsibility for helping their customers instead of sending them elsewhere.

I been with Directv since 2005 it's was great for at least 17 years. If it would be for the nice customer service I'll give zero. I called about my bill, and wanted it to stay the same I don't like thst you have to talk to the AI person or what ever it is. I asked what my bill would be for Aug and when I get it it's something different very frustrating and have the nerve to ask if I want to try the promotion heck no I'm so irritated. They in dispute with one of the local channels, and had the nerve to say get an antenna. I love my directv 20 plus years ago I guess I need a change. Signed an upset loyal customer as many new providers out there do better because y'all in last place and use to be in FIRST...

I JUST GOT THE SERVICE YESTERDAY AND IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A PROMOTION WHERE I DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY UNTIL THE 24
BUT THEY ARE TRYING TO CHARGE ME NOW AND SAY THAT THEY WILL CUT OFF THE SERVICE SINCE THEY WANT TO PULL THIS THEY WILL BE REPORTED BESIDES THE FACT THAT I DON'T GET PAID UNTIL THE 1ST AND THEN FORCING PEOPLE TO PAY FOR A SPORTS REGIONAL PACKAGE THAT THEY DON'T ASK FOR

Supposed tech support is practically…

Supposed tech support is practically nonexistent. They have regular customer service doing tech support. Many barely speak understandable English and they’re obviously reading from a script, blame everything on buffering even when not applicable. It’s all inexcusable but corporate obviously doesn’t care. Every time they change the software on the app they create new problems, always blame them on buffering. It seems on purpose at a certain point. I don’t know if they don’t want to spend money on knowledgeable software engineers, want you to pay monthly for their box, or what. The supposed Office of the President seems as though it is so named to give the impression that they care and/or have influence in getting issues resolved but that seems to be a misnomer. They either don’t respond or relay the same paltry excuses - the company seems to not take responsibility for anything. But since there are complaints all over the internet it sure creates the impression that their ethics are sorely lacking.

Terrible customer service. Multiple transfers, as the person you call "does not have the tools to assist". Poor phone connection and disconnections during the call. Please boycott this company.
