Get Cheaper Alternatives Elsewhere!
I got car insurance with Admiral after passing my test at 24. 12-months comprehensive cover with a black box, which was fine. The problems came when, after a year of driving safely with no claims, no bad telemetry score, and turning 25, that I decided to call admiral and ask what my insurance would cost after renewal.
All i wanted to do was call and ask some questions: 1. How will my insurance be affected when i move address? and 2. What will the difference in price be if I have my black box removed? I just wanted some quotes.
Without my knowledge, the advisor on the phone made changes to my policy and so I received an email stating my insurance was going up by £500 for the year. I called them back and spoke to another advisor, this one not understanding the situation, kept me on the phone for an hour answering questions, just to tell me the same price. I asked her 'can you tell me how much it will be if I keep my black box?'. She said 'No. I'd have to get a separate department to change your details then have them give you a new policy with the black box'.
It's ridiculous. I just wanted to know how much my insurance would be IF I made certain changes. Instead changes were made to my policy without my knowledge then I was expected to pay £500 more for the year.
Both advisor couldn't answer my questions. In frustration I requested not to renew my policy as I no longer wanted to be a customer of Admiral.
For the record, I got a MUCH better deal WITHOUT a box with another provider, with all the same benefits. I'm now saving £35 per month thanks to leaving Admiral.
