The darkest of dark patterns

This company is clearly set up to just rip people off.

They advertise their "free" QR code generation and lead you to generate a QR code which points to their servers (a dynamic code). They wait a week and then stop that QR code from working - they know full well that most people will have printed the QR code onto something and so will be desperate for it to still work.

They then advertise a monthly price. Most people will think "well - I guess they got me but I can't reprint / resend all these things so I'll pay ~€10". Then they find out they were actually charged for a whole year.

The companies' replies to the many other terrible reviews on this site make out that this is all accidental and the information is all clearly available on the website and when you go back over the website with the benefit of hindsight then it is there. But it is clearly designed to first make people think they are getting a free QR code and then to think that they are only paying for a month.

I've requested a chargeback for the money they took from me and will be investigating whether legal action against CONVERTIZING LIMITED is possible for their unfair commercial practises.

I encourage everyone else to do the same and to stay well away from this company.

Dear Kelvin,

We apologize that you feel that our messaging was not clear. We truly value your feedback and will take it into consideration.

We make every effort to ensure our customers are well‑informed before using our service. That’s why we highlight this information throughout our website and in our terms and conditions: dynamic QR Codes created during the trial period will be paused once the trial ends, and a subscription is required to keep them active.
You can find out how to distinguish between a dynamic QR Code and a static QR Code here: https://qrto.org/static-dyn

Any dynamic QR Codes created during your 7‑day free trial won’t stop functioning permanently; they’ll simply be paused once the trial ends. When you choose a plan, those dynamic QR Codes will be reactivated.

Also all the information about the pricing and the cancellation terms is available throughout our platform, including checkout.

Again, we apologize that you feel our messaging was unclear. All of these details are included in our terms and conditions, which customers are asked to review and accept when creating an account.

Best regards,

Review of Crystal Travel

Crystal Travel started out good

Crystal Travel started out good. They had the cheapest prices on kayak for a flight from LGW>LAS but I contacted them because of a problem on the form and they offered me a cheaper flight with stopovers.

After some back and forth we found a flight with the right combination of layover time and price and they sent through an email for me to confirm. Unfortunately I missed that the return date was a day after the date I had originally asked for and I confirmed all was OK.

When I realised the mistake I got in touch and they promised to ring me back to let me know about any charges for changing the date but I never heard from them. I tried twice and then gave up.

Also, when I asked for an invoice it included ~£50 for a hotel room which I didn't ask for. I think this is part of a deal they have with booking.com - the "free" hotel room is booked in advance but there are some fees when you arrive. I'm not sure if they ever paid the ~£50 to booking.com - if they did then I would have preferred to get my flight for £50 cheaper since I have no interest in the hotel room!
