Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 1,185 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently complained about unhelpful staff members, rude behaviors, and major difficulties when trying to contact customer service for assistance or resolving complaints. Shoppers also noted continuous issues with rising prices, unexpected price discrepancies at the checkout counters, and poor product quality, including fresh items going bad very quickly. Though some customers experienced frustration, a few reviewers were happy with the fresh bakery selection and described specific staff members as super and professional. Others also appreciated the competitive prices, interesting items found in the middle aisles, and overall good value available on certain products.

Thank you Lidl Edenbridge

I recently visited the Lidl store in Edenbridge during a particularly busy period, and I must say I was genuinely impressed with the experience. Despite how busy the store was, everything looked neat, well-organised and well-maintained, and the bakery section was especially inviting.
What really stood out to me, however, was the exceptional customer service I received from a Shift Manager named Seyi. I made a point of remembering his name because of how helpful he was. He went above and beyond to ensure we found the exact product we needed, and even took the initiative to help my mum carry our shopping, as we had quite a lot.
His patience, kindness and willingness to help, especially during such a busy period, were truly commendable. It’s refreshing to come across someone who genuinely cares about making customers feel valued and supported.
A huge well done to Seyi and the entire Edenbridge team! This is customer service at its finest, and Lidl should be proud to have someone like him representing the business. A fantastic experience all around!

Purchased Couscous from Lidls which was on offer at a reduced price. Came to cook and noticed the Couscous was clumped together still ate as well within sell by date. However an hour and half later I was violently sick and had food poisoning for 3 days. Raised this with Lidl and they gave me a £15.00 voucher that can only be used if I spend £15.00. My sickness interupted my work not sure why they would feel I would want to spend £15.00 of my own money instore. What a way to gain trust. Lidls next time dont put food item on offer if it will cause severe illness to customers. Your Ref: 139523737

Lidl Bath Road Reading

Lidl Bath Road Reading

If I could I would give minus 10 stars!
Lidl Bath Road Reading
In the bakery section at Lidl, I was reprimanded by an employee for picking up a donut with my hand instead of using the tongs—which, incidentally, I never use because I consider them unhygienic. I explained to her that, for personal reasons, I never use them. The woman became agitated and insisted that the tongs were clean. I replied politely that I wasn't going to listen to such nonsense, but she kept on talking, so, feeling irritated, I snapped: "Just shut up." She then ran to the back, and a moment later, an enraged woman came charging toward me—it turned out to be the store manager, an exceptionally aggressive individual named her self as Sam so I assume Samantha. She snatched my shopping away and screamed that I would no longer be served in that store. I have never felt so disgusted and humiliated in my life, so I called her a "stupid cow"! I have reported the incident to Lidl's complaints department; I also intend to sue this furious woman! I have requested access to the CCTV footage and am currently awaiting a response. I will never set foot in a Lidl again!!!! Lidl need to pay more attention for selection of their management staff as no everybody is suitable for the role moreover many of the staff is rude and aggressive.
P.S.
Customer service told me that they encourage customers to use tongs, though it is not mandatory.

We do our shopping a the Brighouse…

We do our shopping a the Brighouse branch , and both have card. The staff seem to be rushed off their feet. Perhaps lack of staff. Normally, stocks are high and well merchandised. The dates always properly placed. A staff member will always check in the warehouse if the shelf is empty. The fresh food is always super. The wine, although not the well brands, is superb and can be trusted. Occasionally we have to go to a nearby Aldi for an old neighbour. But tell him that Aldi could not oblige and we buy Lidl products. He is happy. The Lidl own brands are as good as the well known brands and far cheaper. We would not go anywhere else.0

Went to lidl Arundel Road Brighton

Went to lidl Arundel Road Brighton. Queued for 5 minutes to go to a "customer does the work of a checkout employee" checkout and did it myself. the reduced price rice that i bought was not reduced on final price. I drew this to the attention of the employee who asked for the receipt. no receipt had come out I was told that this was because i had pressed the no receipt on my app. So i then had to go on the app and find the button to reverse this. finally got a receipt and then couldn't get out of the checkout because in the confusion i didnt pick up the "get out" receipt. i then queued to talk to the checkout person for a refund. I told them what happened and he asked me whether I wanted the full price of the reduced price by which time I was really annoyed by the whole thing. I sarcastically said I would much rather pay the full price. He then told me I was rude but then did ask a more sensible question or whether I would like a refund and leave the rice or be refunded the difference. " the difference please" he then proceded to give me 16p instead of 80p which I pointed out. No apology just a reference to my attitude which I admit at this point was aghast at the lack of customer service. To make matters worse the next customer started shouting at me for being rude which I think was her fear of confrontation as it seems that few people actually complain in shops any more. I doubt anything will change writing this but at least it is an outlet for frustrated customers, many of us are sick to the teeth of doing the work of employees saving the company £££ on their wage bill by paying rip off prices

Lidl does not treat its customers the same, a lot of old people do not have the type of phone that you have to have to have the Lidl app to get cheaper groceries there. I have been caught out several times with there prices due to this, so beware pensioners they don't care about us

Went to Lidl in Loughborough

Went to Lidl in Loughborough
Looking for a product couldn’t find it so I askeda member of staff,
Upon asking her, she said we don’t sell that, I replied well yes you do. I’ve seen them in although Lidl‘s.
She turned around and said well I don’t know where it is then and just walked off,
Nice customer service
No, I don’t know where it is but I’ll go and ask, no just be rude and Walker off I looked to see if she had a name badge but she didn’t so I said what’s your name she said I don’t have to tell you that which is fair enough I guess you don’t that’s why you don’t have a name badge so you can be as rude as you please and obviously I would imagine Lidl will do nothing about it so there’s no point in complaining
Especially when you look at these other reviews clearly they don’t give a monkeys

Did a shop here today as I have done since I moved to the area over two years ago. Having qued at till one with a member off staff being quite a abrupt saying if you are paying by card use the self checkouts only till one is for large trolleys and cash only. If this is the case I will shop elsewhere. I think you should still have a choice if you do not like self checkouts.

Lidl points, have no apparent point.

Lidl have a points based system to encourage visits, but having only used the app twice i note my points disappear without reason. Bottom line, dont bother with their APP because points means nought. I've used Lidil about 6-9 times over the last 2 years. Their merchandising of the shop is as random as a dog with two tails. They (within themselves) might know what they are doing but for the general public its odd at best.

Appalling behaviour representing Lidl. The car park has only 6 spaces with pot holes all over, filthy. The side ally to get to the parking always has drug users dealing or using. It is also used as a toilet.

Overcharged for my shopping by checkout…

Overcharged for my shopping by checkout staff at Tunbridge Wells store. I noticed when I checked the receipt after I paid what seemed to be a hefty transaction for what I bought… sure enough I had been charged for extra items I had not received or wanted.
The checkout woman, without offering apology, proceeded with her assistant manager to refund the £38 odd back onto my debit card.
However, the money did not go back into my account, just left ‘pending’ on the details. This had left me very short of cash in my account and it wasn’t my mistake made in the first place.
The assistant manager was called back as I requested to the checkout woman, when he finally ambled his way over- he told me the money will be in my account, but could take 24 hours… THIS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH ! it is MY money Lidl , and your staff made the mistake.. I don’t need Paul , the under manager , to placate me … if I took £38 from Lidl it would be theft, but you effectively took my money and I have yet to get it back

Shocking treatment from ‘manager’

Appalling treatment beyond inhumane at @LidlGB Peckham today. Accused of stealing a 45p bottle of water while checking my blood sugar as a Type 1 diabetic. A woman claiming to be the manager laughed at my condition and had security remove me. Loyal customer since 2009. Unacceptable.

Every week I shop at Lidl in Gosport

Every week I do part of my shopping at Lidl in Gosport. On average I spend £75 each time. I very rarely say yes to get a receipt because I have Lidl plus and it shows on there my purchases and it saves on wasting paper.

Last week I bought some lamb chops which I have purchased before and they were good and tasty. However the ones I purchased last week were not. Two days after purchase (they were still in date) but when I opened them, they were smelling really bad and were not fit for human consumption!!

So, …….This week when I went to Lidl at Gosport I asked to speak to the manager and explained what had happened and I was told that I’ve left it too late to complain about it, I replied but I only come here once a week, (I am an old age pensioner) and that it will be shown on my Lidl plus account he said he could not access my Lidl plus and that he could not do anything about it at the store and I should call Customer Service so I asked for the number.

He then replied. “I can give you the number but you can just get it as you leave the store as there is a big poster with a number on it”! So I believed what he said.

However as I left the store there is no big poster with any number on it and just a QR code that I could scan for customer care. So I scanned it and then all you get is a virtual assistant who doesn’t reply to you. I tried about three times to complain, but simply got no response whatsoever.

I am absolutely disgusted and flabbergasted how they can sell bad rotten food products that is not fit for human consumption and have no answer for it, shame on you Lidl taking peoples money and when something isn’t right turning your back and washing your hands of that situation especially that manager at the Gosport store.

When I know look at Lidl‘s and think about shopping there, I view it with distain and utter contempt.
