My dog is 5 1/2 years old in good
Health besides some benign ( small ) bumps removed last year. ( Had to go from 90-70% coverage due to rising premiums ). Well
River has surgery last year and surprise, surprise her premiums just increased 40% to $241/month. $2,880/year is astronomical for
Most people besides the CEO Margi Tooth who made 4.1 MILLION last year at Trupanion. Maybe if she and her Executives took a 49% pay cut ( still millionaires ) we could afford insurance with Trupanion.

My dog has gotten sick twice since we have recently got him, Trupanion won’t cover anything and they drag it out with a billion questions and you provide all the information and they still don't pay. Must be a catastrophic sickness before they pay anything I’m guessing.
Save yourself the headache and go with lemonade pet insurance, cheaper and covers about anything!!

My family has had Trupanion pet insurance for almost two years now. We've had nothing but a positive experience. Super friendly support and the claim process is lightning fast. For example, the last claim we filed was confirmed, processed and the monies were in my bank account all within 24hrs. We highly recommend Trupanion!

I have had Trupanion since our dog was 2 and he is now 14 and they have been absolutely amazing. Now that he is older, he has had a lot of health issues which has been expensive and having insurance has made it extremely affordable and allowed me to move forward with treatment knowing that I'm covered, thus keeping Cody alive for as long as he can. They're very quick to process our claims, and even paid the emergency hospital directly in the middle of the night. Anytime I've called the reps have been really kind and compassionate and even asked how he was doing on follow up calls. Honestly, it's worth the money 100% and I will always use them and continue to recommend them. The only downside is that you cannot pay your bill months in advance the way you can house or car insurance. It would be nice if I could pay a year or 3-6 months upfront. It's not a huge dealbreaker for me but would be an awesome enhancement to the services!

Our dog started fainting and was diagnosed with syncopy. The treatment was to install a pacemaker. Unsurprisingly, this was a very stressful experience, but Trupanion's coverage, designed for exactly these types of scenarios, was one thing we didn't have to worry about. The peace of mind from having such good coverage during an intense and scary period for us and our dog was so valuable. I recommend pet insurance to everyone I talk to and mention Trupanion specifically. If you're debating the worth of pet insurance, take this as a sign that it's worth it.

Extremely disappointed with Trupanion. In my experience, it feels like their goal is to find absolutely any possible reason to cover as little as they can.
Our dog had allergies documented as “pre-existing” from before we adopted him, something we weren’t even aware of when we adopted him. Today, he had a FOREIGN OBJECT lodged in his eye that required veterinary treatment and sedation to remove. Trupanion denied coverage because they claim it could potentially be allergy-related.
How does a documented history of allergies suddenly mean a foreign object getting into his eye isn’t covered? At what point does everything become connected to a “pre-existing condition” just so they don’t have to pay?
We pay for pet insurance specifically for unexpected situations like this. A foreign object in an animal’s eye requiring sedation is about as unexpected as it gets. Instead of feeling protected by our policy, we’re left arguing over technicalities and hypothetical connections to allergies.
I would seriously think twice before purchasing a policy with Trupanion. Read every exclusion and understand just how broadly they may interpret a pre-existing condition, because based on our experience, having insurance certainly does not mean your unexpected veterinary expenses will actually be covered.

Be prepared to call in several times
and fight to have them pay a claim. They use the excuse. Oh the automated system didn't understand. We will submit it again. Or they will try to start a new deductible on a disease state that has already hit the deductible. I'm grateful I have insurance albeit over a pets lifetime
you can probably self insure and come out better but it's nice not to have a huge vet bill to deal with. The premiums are getting higher and higher as well. That said having a pet is a lifetime commitment and can be very expensive. Many people get a cute puppy and then realize the cost involved. So many pets have been dumped since Covid. I tell anyone getting a puppy to get them insurance.

I can’t imagine not having Trupanion to help us provide our dog Oliver the best medical care to help him live his best life. Through two surgeries and physical therapy, Trupanion paid 80% of the cost which allowed me to seek the best surgeon and post surgery rehab for Oliver. Thank you, Trupanion! Easy and fast claim process done online in 5 minutes tops!

I adopted a Dachshund who came from a hoarding situation via a respected rescue organization. She is only 2 years old. The rescue had her spayed and that vet wrote that she had Hypotrichosis which is genetic hair loss on the tip of her ear, which turned out to be wrong; the hair filled in as her coat became lush. I adopted her the next day. 3 weeks later, I took her to my vet for a wellness visit. I told him that she came from a hoarding situation and her coat was dry and she had a bit of dandruff and I asked for her ears to be cleaned because they were dirty. The vet wrote "HEALTHY DOG AT IDEAL BODY WEIGHT" and "Normal systems: eyes, ears, oral, lymphatic, musculoskeletal, digestive, urinary, genital, cardiovascular, respiratory, neurologic." I signed up for Trupanion for my HEALTHY 2 year old dog. HERE'S WHAT TRUPANION SAID FOR HER MEDICAL COVERAGE IN THE FUTURE: 1) NO coverage for anything dental including periodontal, extractions, etc. because she has minimal tartar on her teeth. I had asked the vet if she needed her teeth cleaned and he said "not yet." 2) NO coverage for Hypotrichosis, which she doesn't even have. THE FOLLOWING CAN BE SIGNS OF PROBLEMS AND FUTURE MEDICAL CLAIMS FOR THEM MUST BE EVALUATED: 1) Thin (underweight) which she isn't. 2) Stranger and dog directed fear. This is something they made up; my dog has no such fear. 3) Pruritis - because her skin was itchy from coming from a hoarding situation. 4) Ear (aural) abnormality, which she doesn't have. All she had was dirty ears that I asked them to clean. I was ANGRY and I called Trupanion and told them this is CRAP! My dog is healthy and they are trying to document things that don't exist in order to get out of paying for anything in the future. Spot insurance has a 180 forgiveness for curable pre-existing conditions and Fetch has a 12 month forgiveness period. I'm speaking with both companies, since they apparently realize that PEOPLE ADOPT FROM RESCUES AND NEED MORE THAN A MINUTE TO GET THEIR DOGS INTO PRIME HEALTH!! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY WITH THIS COMPANY!! They've taken THREE payments from me already and waited 5 MONTHS to tell me that they won't cover these conditions that don't even exist!!

They say they cover medication. And I took my cat in for an active infestation. Which was completely unexpected. And Trupanion did not reimburse me for the treatment. They said since the medication she was given is typically a preventative that they won't cover it. Then I called customer service to cancel and the woman kept talking and talking and going on about her cat, and asked for the details of the claim I submitted. When I told her I wasn't interested in discussing the details I just want to cancel, she chose to go into my account and look up the details and ask me about them to see why I didn't get reimbursed. I explained to her that I already contacted customer service and they told me why. She then kept talking about what Trupanion covered. I told her it doesn't matter because I want to cancel. And she told me she understood and wasn't there to waste my time and that I'd get money back for the unused portion. She kept laughing and going off subject. She then said my premium was so high bc my deductible was low but I could save money by restructuring my plan. I told her I intentionally chose a lower deductible for a higher premium. And then I told her I wish to cancel my policy and she asked me what I planned on doing for coverage and I told her I'd find another company. I then asked her if we can just process the cancelation or is there anyone else I can speak to who can help me get done what I need done. And she was like okay I'll just go over a few things I'm required to go over before processing the cancelation. Then she kept talking about how other companies may only cover a few dollars of wellness care. And going on and on. I eventually hung up bc she kept me on the phone for 13 minutes and 58 seconds. Unprofessional and clearly want to keep their cash in flow.

Over time this has become more and more expensive with little to no return. Support requires a complete dosier from you before they will speak to you - even when asking "where on your website do I find ____". After evaluating saving the cost of coverage in a savings account, we come out much further ahead by NOT having insurance.

My bills were covered quickly, but coverage is getting ridiculously expensive. It has gone from $90/month to $160/month in 5 years. My total vet bills covered were around $800 in the first 2 years of my dogs life.
My dog is healthy and it should not cost this much.

My cat is alive and he wouldn't be if he didn't have Trupanion. Zero hassle, no argument, no phone calls, no begging, pleading, borrowing or begging - The vet wrote up their estimate, submitted it to Trupanion and they paid it on the spot. Literally easier than my own insurance. It was an incredible relief to not have to think about money when my cat was in critical condition. Easiest payment I make every month.

I have been with Trupanion for over 10 years for my precious cat, Oreo. I have never had a problem with any claims, they have been absolutely wonderful. They respond immediately and are more than fair. My dear pet had feline lymphoma and when my pet passes recently, they even sent me a condolence letter! I honestly cannot say enough wonderful things about this company. If I had not had insurance, I would have still gone above and beyond to provide my cat the care that it needed, regardless of the cost, but this was a God send in many ways. The biggest kudos to having this service available. Many heartfelt thanks. 💕

Whenever there is a m edical emergency there is a great deal of worry . The concern for your pet is the first thing on your mind. Next comes the dred of the bill. I have had both major medical, where the pet had to stay. I have had a stitch up and release the same day. Trupanion works with the Veterinary service and very quickly pays their share of the bill. I was very impressed and quite pleased. Trupanion is a great value.

Ive had trupanion for 8 years. Indoor cats only.
Ive used it twice and they dont cover a bunch of stuff so ive never gotten high enough to cover deductible.
The price increase is insane. It costs more than human health insurance. I started in 2018 with my cats and was charge $32/month per cat. It has been steady then the last 3 years they have increased it several times that its doubled in cost. Even with me increasing my deductible amount to save money AND getting a discount code through work it didnt matter. I got a massive increase every year. Feels like a waste of money. Nothing you can do to make it affordable. No one can help you when you call it. Indoor cats only shouldn't cost this much.
