Trash company and terrible support
I bought a domain with them. They said i need to verify myself by calling a number. However, i am out of country, so calling is really really expensive.
However, there is no other way to contact them besides calling. No email, no livechat. What a trash company.

I had a really bad experience with this service. They are real fraud. When I wanted to cancel the service they made me pay the fee for the next year without giving me any other option. Really really disappointing.

A modern cancellation trap, in my experience
I purchased several .nl domain packages from STRATO years ago. Before the renewal period, I cancelled the domains and also contacted their support by phone more than once to make it clear that I no longer wanted these services.
Despite this, STRATO continues to send payment reminders and keeps showing confusing contract termination dates in the customer panel. The domain may be cancelled or transferred, but the package contract appears to continue unless the customer follows their complicated internal cancellation process exactly.
In my opinion, this is a modern cancellation trap. The process is unnecessarily complicated, unclear, and designed in a way that can force customers into paying extra fees for services they no longer use or want.
Their own panel shows cancellation received, but they still demand payment for extra year ( domain not exist more even in their panel) . This is unacceptable. If a customer cancels before renewal and clearly communicates that the service is no longer wanted, the company should not continue billing by hiding behind confusing package terms and contract dates.
I consider this an unfair and misleading business practice. We are now preparing to file a formal complaint and will escalate the matter if STRATO does not cancel the remaining charges and confirm in writing that no further invoices will be issued.
I would strongly advise other customers to be extremely careful with STRATO contracts, domain packages, cancellation dates, and renewal terms.

As an agency we've onboarded multiple clients who came from Strato hosting or had domains parked there, and the pattern never changes. Getting domains away is a drawn-out ordeal every single time. On top of that, most of them were being billed for services they never asked for and didn't need. One was paying for PHP 7.4 support on a site that had never run below PHP 8. Customer service is friendly and talks like they'll sort everything out, but in practice issues drag on for weeks, often months, before anything actually moves. Wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole.
EDIT: Funny how Strato immediately responds when leaving a bad review, but has failed to help my customers in the past months... Should tell you enough.

Customer Service
Customer Communication
They say my VAT number is incorrect, I do a VIES check, its correct, try contact them, impossible, no email contact, call centre is just wait, they say there is a contact form you can fill in ... well good luck finding that
It appears as if they want you to never actually contact them but only the FAQ etc as communication
I regret using them and advise against them

I am currently a very satisfied STRATO customer.
At the beginning, I had a few issues, but everything is running well now. The VPS performance is good, the price is fair, and for what you get, I think the value is definitely strong. When something goes down, it is usually because of something I changed myself, not because of STRATO.
What I also really appreciated was the customer service. I once accidentally ordered something I could not use, and after speaking with support by phone, they handled it very professionally and refunded me without any problems. That was very fair and polite.
One small point that could be improved is the communication around payment emails. Sometimes those emails can be a bit confusing or not fully clear at first, although in the end you can usually figure it out. It is not a major problem for me, but it is something STRATO could improve.
Overall, I am happy with STRATO. The VPS servers are good, the service has been fair, and I would recommend STRATO based on the price, the quality, and the support I received.

keeps sending invoices even when contract is cancelled. Then you get the option to Cancle earlier. When i cancle i want to cancle, not cancle in multiple months.

I transferred my first domain without any problems. Then the issues started.
The second and third domains were not billed at the advertised 12-month promotional price. They claimed I had clicked the wrong option to get that price, even though I clearly selected “12-month promotion...”. They also refused to issue a refund.
For the final domain, I constantly received an error when trying to transfer it. First, I spent 45 minutes on the phone because there was no simple way to create a support ticket for the issue. I then tried transferring the domain to another registrar, and the transfer completed successfully in just 10 minutes.
Then I told them I would go elsewhere next year. They simply replied, “Success.” No apologies, nothing. Very rude.

It took me hours trying to connect my website to a domain bought elsewhere, it took me 5 minutes at a different hosting provider after giving up. Stay away from this

I had a very frustrating experience with STRATO.
I initially signed up for what appeared to be a free service, but later found out that it automatically turned into a paid business contract. Even though I no longer use the service, they continue to send invoices simply because I didn’t cancel within a specific time frame.
I clearly requested a full cancellation of all services, domains, and my account. However, instead of stopping everything immediately, they informed me that the contract would continue until the end of the term and that I would still receive additional invoices.
This kind of setup feels very misleading. A service that starts as “free” should not lock users into long-term paid contracts without very clear and explicit warnings.
Be very careful when signing up. Even if you don’t use the service at all, you may still be charged.
I would not recommend this service.

Do not trust STRATO. I downgraded my WordPress hosting in 2023 to a simple domain bundle, but they kept charging me 36 euros every year for an "SSL Domain Validation" that is technically useless without hosting. To make matters worse, in March 2026 their system went crazy and sent me multiple "phantom invoices" for products I cancelled years ago. When I called support, an agent named Giovanni admitted it was a system error and promised an immediate cancellation, a refund, and an email confirmation. He lied. The email never arrived, the refund never happened, and they simply ignored my formal default notice (Ingebrekestelling). They deliberately try to exhaust customers so they give up and keep paying for useless, automatically renewed services. I have now reversed the charges via my bank (Storno) and opened a formal cross-border dispute with the European Consumer Centre (ECC). Save yourself the headache and go to any other hosting provider!

I still have not received a refund. Please see my review regarding Strato NL extending my contract without giving me the opportunity to terminate the contract. Strato did not give me a timely notification of at least a month to inform me that my contract was being extended. And when I terminated the contract after receiving a notification, Strato still extended the contract up on to 1 year.

They keep increasing the prices while others don't. It's nearly impossible to contact them if your don't have or cannot use a phone. This was reason enough for me to find a new supplier.
However, Strato keeps sending me invoices through mail, for paid or reversed payment invoices. When I login on the Strato site there are no outstanding invoices, only paid or paid out to me. Strato does not offer any explanation.

When registering my domain, I took advantage of the offer where the first year is only 0.12 euros. I was immediately presented with an iDeal payment window and paid the amount straight away.
A few days later, at 10:00 pm, I received an email with a payment reminder for 0.01 euros, which I had supposedly underpaid. My package could be blocked.
At 10:23 pm, I received an email saying that my package was now blocked and that I had to pay that one cent as soon as possible.
When I log in, I see to my surprise an invoice for the first year for 13 cents instead of 12 cents. Nowhere does it say where that extra cent comes from, and on the site they are still advertising that a domain costs 12 cents per year.
The (friendly!) lad on the phone said he didn't know either. 'Something to do with the system, I think...'
It's not about that one cent to me, whether a year costs 12, 13 or 50 cents, or 10 euros, that doesn't matter. But I'm being treated like a defaulter, even though I never received a clear invoice and simply paid immediately upon purchase/registration.
As soon as this first year is over, I'm moving my domain straight away. What a nasty company.
