Charged me £400 for a small mirror scratch that I did not make
Charged me £400 for a small mirror scratch that I did not make on a car that already had 14 reported damages. When asked (twice), they were unable to provide evidence of the repair having been carried out.
My recent rental at Enterprise/Alamo…
My recent rental at Enterprise/Alamo Geneva Airport left me concerned about the process.
When I picked up the car, I was asked to sign the pre-condition report before seeing the vehicle, which was parked a bus ride away. I later realized that the report itself was signed by staff on my behalf, as the check-in screens were “not working”, so I did not have the chance to review the contract or condition report myself, as the process went to quickly for me to realise that this is what was being signed on my behalf.
I was not advised to take photos of the vehicle, and when I later asked about past records, I was told that “no photos were available”. The damage in question was a curbed wheel, which I absolutely do not recall happening during my rental (neither does my partner present at all times).
My insurance will cover the claim, so I am not posting this for compensation. I am sharing my experience to encourage future renters to take their own detailed photos at pickup and to carefully check documentation.
Very poor service
Like many others I was also charged for damage on the car that was pre existing. Fortunately I took loads of photos and damage was very clearly there before I started the rental. But it still took weeks to get a refund. If I was being kind I would suggest they were just incompetent and had poor processes but I suspect they may be trying it on to get extra charges deliberately based on the many other reviews especially as the damage was so clear it's hard to understand how they could miss it. Probably best to avoid and if you do rent with them take lots of photos and expect a poor experience and a bit of a battle to get refund
Apparently I am not the first victim. Stay away!
Apparently I am not the first victim.
Enterprise - Alamo rental car place (Bern airport, Switzerland) is the last place you want to go to. The staff there are rude and horrible customer service. My wife and I picked up the rental and returned exactly per their instructions. We arrived at the rental facility but because there were busy, the parking spaces are full. We parked and waited for availability. The space becomes available literally next to us and as we tried to back it in, their staff sped from behind and pulled into the space. I got out and asked what is going on, they yelled in broken English to wait for another one. Another 4-6minutes passed and another opened up, this time 2 spaces up. Again, as we attempt to drive in, another staff literally pulled out from opposite spot and backed right in, nearly hitting us. As fuming as we were, we got out and they looked at us discriminately if we were aliens and did the "2 hands palm up raise" to show what can we do as they beat us to the spots. Keep in mind, they are actual staff. Should they not be assisting the customer, rather than fighting and competing with them? A few days later, they sent an invoice with photos saying there was damage to the car's roof. We took videos of before and after, there was nothing and the car was returned in the same condition as it was. We also tried to contact the Swiss airport police after we turned to the US, they were not helpful either. They don't even speak English, which is unbelievable. After months of exchanging emails trying to dispute, Enterprise/Alamo sent the damage invoice to the collection agency. As of today, we have also tried to contact to the Swiss Attorney General but I am sure, we may not get a response. How many more victims before these people are stopped and prosecuted?
Enterprise Switzerland charged me over…
Enterprise Switzerland charged me over CHF 2,000 for damages that were already on the car when I picked it up in August 2025. I had a time-stamped video proving the scratches were pre-existing, sent screenshots, filed tickets, replied to emails (their call center is non-existent) — all ignored. A week after drop-off they sent photos of the alleged damage, which could have come from any renter after me, and still charged my card.
This feels like a pattern — looking at other reviews, many people describe the same treatment. How many of us have to go through this before a lawsuit becomes an option? Stay away from this company.
DO NOT RENT WITH THEM / READ CAREFULLY
DO NOT RENT WITH THEM AND READ CAREFULLY! I was a faithful customer of Alamo/Enterprise with over 40 rentals during last 3 years until they scammed me and had me pay over 400€ for an already existing tiny scratch (less than 1 cm) on the door handle. When picking up the car, they always tell you that you should not care about these tiny scratches. When returning the car, the agent told me "Everything is fine, I will close the contract". Of course, you never receive any confirmation and there is no commun signature from both parties when closing the contract. 25 days after returning the car, I received a bill regarding this scratch I had not made and my credit card was charged. I filed a complained to the customer service that reply after weeks that they would see with the corresponding team. Needless to say that they never came back! I called Mastercard who told me they had numerous similar cases with Enterprise Zurich. Food for thoughts... DO NOT RENT WITH THESE SC@MMERS!
Worst company to rent a car
I have select drop location different. At a time of pick up they said this location is permentaly closed so you drop on different location which very far from our planning then we asked for solution - they told cancel the booking. They sent me 3 invoice instead of 1. I missed one. Instead sending reminder they sent my file for collection department 3 times payment.
Ruined driving holiday.
Ruined driving holiday!
I reserved a small car several months before my holiday as I was visiting small villages with narrow streets and limited parking. I had also rented a garage for a small car.
When I arrived at the rental desk I was told there were no small cars available and I would have to take a larger SUV, despite Enterprise having accepted my early reservation. I complained at the rental desk and again in the collection garage but was told both times that I had no option but to take the larger vehicle. The inevitable happened and one of the wheels scraped on a kerb for which I was charged just under £400 by Enterprise. To make matters worse, my reservation was for a manual/ petrol but the SUV was automatic/hybrid!
Enterprise has been my rental company of choice in the past but I'll look elsewhere in future!
Do not hire a car from Enterprise cars…
Do not hire a car from Enterprise cars Geneva. We have been trying to get hold of this company to reclaim £1400 they have stolen from our bank by falsely claiming damage on their car that we hired . The photo evidence they sent us is exactly the same as the ones we submitted at the beginning of our journey. The damage was there before ! The damage we had reported to them! We have now found a Facebook group where many other people have encountered the same scam. There is something very corrupt happening within this establishment and Enterprise Cars should be looking into this franchise. Easy Jet should not be promoting these people. In our opinion Enterprise Geneva are committing a crime and need investigating .
Lack of maintenance
My brother in law hired a car from ALAMO at the airport of Geneva to visit me. The car run without problem until it was time to leave for the airport. It was an early cold morning in the mountains and the car refused to start, nothing worked or turned on, no sound from the starter motor, no dashboard lights nothing. There was no time to loose After explaining the case on the phone to the emergency number, I had to drive him to the airport 165km away immediately. The handling by ALAMO at the airport was done and he could take the plane home. However two months later he found that ALAMO had withdrawn the full deposit from his card, 10 084 SEK. ALAMO claimed repair costs and roadside assistance. The problem was a faulty battery that was changed. I see this as a lack of maintenance, a good battery should work with no problem at a temperature around zero. I do not understand why ALAMO do not cover this themself. it was obviously a faulty battery from the beginning. What is more the amount withdrawn does not correspond to the invoices shown.
Worst car rental experience ever
Worst car rental experience ever. Wish I had seen these reviews before. I just realised that this is what they do with all their customers. Get them to pay for damages that weren't there. They are scammers and crooks. Been months now and they are going on charging me with admin fee even after I have paid everything.
We rented a car from Alamo Basel on…
We rented a car from Alamo Basel on 25/08/24. Weeks later, we received a demand for EUR 1,400 for alleged damage. We were never shown any photographic evidence despite multiple requests. Our bank investigated and reversed the charge because the claim could not be substantiated. We also have documentation showing the damage was pre-existing. Despite this, the matter has been escalated to a German debt collection agency (Debtist), causing significant distress. We are asking Enterprise Zurich to take responsibility and stop this unfair process immediately.
If I could give zero stars
If I could give zero stars, I would. My experience with this rental location has been the worst I’ve ever had with any travel service.
I returned my rental car to their Zurich Airport location in perfect condition. I even documented the return with timestamped photos and a video showing the exact drop-off moment. Everything was clear: the vehicle was undamaged, parked properly, and photographed thoroughly.
Nearly two months later, after I had left the country, I was shocked to find they charged my credit card for alleged damage to the vehicle. Despite sending multiple emails and providing clear evidence disproving their claim, including photo and video proof, they refused to reverse the charge. Their responses were dismissive and repeated the same generic statements about “terms and conditions,” ignoring the evidence I provided.
The timing and handling of this situation raise serious concerns about their practices. If they can charge me two months after my rental ended for something I did not do, what’s stopping them from doing this again months or even years later? There was no phone support, and every interaction was slow and frustrating.
This experience feels unfair, unprofessional, and predatory. I am now disputing the charge with my credit card company and filing complaints with consumer protection authorities. No customer should have to go through this after doing everything right.
Warning to anyone renting from this company or location: document every inch of your rental, because even if you return it in perfect condition, you may still face false charges long after your trip ends.
Bad experience, conned, do not use enterprise
Bad experience, do not use enterprise at Zurich airport. Like others before us (I wish I’d seen these reviews!) our car wasn’t available so were offered something else. It was covered in small scratches. The scratches were listed on the documentation at check out but a month after returning it we get an email with photos that have no date or time stamp saying we have added extra new scratches. They charged our credit card over £1,500 so now we have a battle to get this back. Absolute pirates, stay well clear!
Absolutely do not use these guys
Absolutely do not use these guys. As with many other reports, they made up damages on return. I have full Video and picture evidence of this damage pre existing at pick up, two weeks later I'm still waiting for them to respond and have opened a charge dispute.
Not worth the cheap rental price, they clearly earn via game damage claims
Scammers / Betrug Stay away!!
Stay away from Enterprise/National in Switzerland. They practice an earning model on insurance scams.
I am renting cars on average 6 months annually. With National, I hold an Executive membership. But what happened in Switzerland is beyond all imagination.
I rented a car In Bazel, to go to my hotel in Colmar where it was parked in the garage. 2 days later I drove the car back to the airport. The car was not further used. My check-out report was not in order, with described damage that was not there. I did take pictures at the time of the check-out. 2 weeks after the check-in, I get a claim for damage on a rear door sill from a door that was never opened together with a cracked mirror.
A CHF 2.000,- + claim. The "cracked mirror" was a, hard to find, little white dot on the mirror. Since I took pictures of the car, I could prove that it was already there at the time of the check-out. So they had to deduct it from the total claim. I took pictures of the exterior of the car, so I could not notice damage at the rear door sill. This damage must also have been there, since I did not even open this door.
Enterprise/National CH is talking in their standard answers about their thorough check-in and check-out procedure. Well, my check-out report was not correct, and I could prove that their check-in report was also not correct. How do they explain "thorough"?
I am almost convinced that Enterprise/National CH claims existing damages to clients who are using their own insurance policies (via credit card i.e.).
It would be interesting to compare all damage reports.
Personally I find Enterpise/National is a trustworthy company worldwide, but in Switzerland they work on a franchise basis. This Swiss company damages the good reputation of Enterprise/National. So I advice in Switzerland to avoid renting from them.
Fraudsters
If you have had a bad experience - as we have - dispute - the charge. Amex are fantastic. Ignore the Debtist letters as they are again a total scam too - probably another company set up by the same franchise. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

my experience is very similar to the majority on here.
I rented a car from Geneva, the initial collection report for the car indicated only damage to the front and rear wheels. When we collected the car we realised the damage was excessively worse with the damage to the side of the car and the roof. None of this additional damage was indicated.
When we dropped the car back we were told by their official it was fine.
The fun then started, 2 weeks later they charged my credit card for damage to a windscreen a small crack less than the size of a small pee. This was successfully refunded back to the credit card company after their thorough investigation. At that point and a couple of months later they started sending a debt collection agency from Germany to chase the debt. I responded on several occasions to them, but was never able to communicate directly. The letters kept coming with the same amount of 1,931 CHF apparently it costs 1,600 CHF for a Volkswagen Windscreen and the debt collection fees making up the rest.
I am now being pursued by a Law firm.
Enterprise and its associates Haras and Bully.
