⚠️ Just a quick warning about using the…

⚠️ Just a quick warning about using the BeHoppy mobility scooters.

I used one once to get up to my lodge in the hotel grounds and it parked fine. The next day, I took it back down to the Square where I got it from - no problems. When I wanted to use it again, it asked for another £10 deposit, so I checked the map on the app to see where I could take it.

The area was showing as green, which gave the impression that I was allowed to use and park the scooter there. I went out towards neighbouring hotel who is owned by the same branch, but it wouldn’t let me park. I then tried the main reception — again, it wouldn’t let me park there either.

In the end, I had to take it back to where I started, effectively losing the £10 deposit, and then used the hotel’s free shuttle bus instead.

I contacted BeHoppy customer service to complain, and they told me I had been outside the boundary line. The frustrating part is that there was no orange boundary line showing on the app GPS at the time when I was at the hotel. Conveniently, now that I’m back home and looking at their on-site map, the orange boundary is there. 🤣 👎

So just be aware if you’re considering using them — check the parking/operating boundaries very carefully, as the app map may not make it clear when you’re actually on site and I do feel like this is purposely done to rack up the time which is their business model! Judging by other reviews people are complaining about the exact same thing, unable to end the ride.... SHOCK HORROR! Customer service is terrible on the site and by email. AI chat responses, unsympathetic responses by email. I wouldn't care the theory sounds great, jump on jump off but it's not the case. AVOID! AVOID! AVOID!

Hi Adam,

I've indeed answered your e-mail in which you complained that you tried to end the ride in several parking zones but that you were not able to do so. Furthermore, you mentioned that it took a long time to end the ride in the place you started it.

I looked at the ride and saw you started the ride in a parking zone, but then did not re-enter a parking zone until the end of your ride, when you were back where you started and you could end the ride without further problems.

I'm sorry you did not see the parking zones in the app until you were at home, but they are clearly shown in blue on the map in the app. If you look at the map before and during your ride, there is no reason to avoid using Hoppy.

Kind regards,
Hoppy Support

HOPPY FOR THE WIN!

I loved using Hoppy, it was a great way to get around I used it daily and even bought the 30 day subscription pass. I would 100% recommend when in Tenerife. A clutch mode of transport.

would not recommend using Hoppy…

would not recommend using Hoppy scooters in Kos because their parking system simply makes no sense.

We picked up two scooters from the same parking location where there were five scooters parked. We went for a short ride and then returned the same two scooters to exactly the same parking location.

Logically, there should have been two free spaces because we had just taken two scooters from there. No additional scooters had appeared while we were away. Yet when we returned, the app suddenly said “parking full” and would not allow us to end the ride.

Please don’t blame this on GPS or phone signal. Our GPS and internet were working perfectly. The problem appears to be that their parking availability system does not update properly or updates with a delay.

Looking at other reviews, we are clearly not the only people experiencing parking problems with Hoppy in Kos.

The worst part is that while the app refuses to let you end the ride, you continue being charged and have to drive around looking for another parking location.

This completely defeats the purpose of renting a scooter for a quick and convenient journey. Until Hoppy fixes its parking system in Kos, I would strongly recommend tourists use another company.

Hi Customer,

I'm sorry you had problems ending your ride. The maximum number of scooters in each parking zone in Kos is 3 because otherwise we receive fines from the local police. The local authorities don't want the scooters to be in larger numbers in the same place.

This has nothing to do with the GPS or other connection issues, but someone else must have left two scooters there without ending the ride properly. After some time one of our colleagues then ends the ride or it ends automatically. That's why there were no 'free places' when you came back with those scooters.

I hired a bike in Valle del Este

I hired a bike in Valle del Este, a small community in Spain. I followed the tutorial on the app. The tutorial does not warn not to leave the red line.

However Valle del Este is a small zoned area surrounded by a larger zoned area. I accidentally went out of Valle del Este area zone (I had not been told not to do so or warned I was going into a no go zone). AND I was still within the wider zoned area!

I was going down hill, so the bike just carried on. When I tried to go up a hill the bike wasn't working and I stopped. The bike went off-line and I had a message on the app I was in a no go zone. The wheel locked and it said I must manually move the bike. Because I had coasted down hill for a mile I was outside the VDE zone by a mile!

I am a 63 year old woman and I had to DRAG the bike back to the small Valle del Este Zone. The bike is very heavy and it nearly killed me in the hot Almería sun! I had constantly tried to message support but was told they would be back in two days!

I was then charged for ALL the time I had the bike, even when it was clearly off line, and I only rode it for about 5-6 minutes in total. Most of that time I was dragging the bike!

I want to be able to go on a Hoppy to Vera or Garrucha the nearest towns, but it appears that bikes from VDE only stay in VDE! Most people in VDE want to go to Vera or Garrucha or even Mojacar because VDE has no public transport.

I would like a complete refund please and an explanation of how the zones work, because I was in a wider zone with no indication that the bike I hired could not leave Valle del Este zone. I can supply screen grabs which demonstrate that VDE is within a wider red zone.

Obviously I am going to report my appalling experience on the local forums and warn people about the zones indicated around VDE. I cannot see the point of you having bikes on VDE if you cannot leave VDE on them!

I look forward to hearing from you and the complete refund for this horrible experience.

Very disappointing experience with…

Very disappointing experience with Hoppy in Kos.

I would strongly advise anyone considering using this service to be extremely careful about the charges. In my experience, the amounts charged were unclear, difficult to understand and appeared completely disproportionate to the actual use of the service.

What makes the situation even worse is the lack of transparency and customer support. I contacted Hoppy asking for a clear explanation of the charges and gave them the opportunity to clarify what had happened, but I received no satisfactory response.

For a mobility service that automatically charges your payment method, transparency about pricing and the ability to obtain a prompt explanation of unexpected charges are essential. Unfortunately, my experience with Hoppy in Kos gave me very little confidence in either.

My advice to other tourists: check the pricing conditions very carefully before starting a ride, take screenshots of the information shown in the app, and closely monitor every charge made to your card.

Based on my experience, I would not use Hoppy in Kos again and I cannot recommend this operator.

Hi Stefano,

The price of the scooters in Kos is visible in the app before you start a ride. You will see the unlock cost and the price per minute we charge.

It's important that there is enough money in your Hoppy wallet to cover the price of the ride during the ride. If there is 1 euro in your Hoppy wallet for example and the ride price is higher, we charge a small amount so that you can keep using the scooter until your ride has finished and the total ride price will be calculated and shown in the app.

If you prefer not to be charged automatically during the ride, you can turn off the 'auto top-up' function in the app. In that case, make sure to add enough money to your Hoppy wallet before you start a ride to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Hoppy Support

Very difficult to use and over charges

Very difficult to use and over charges
The bike system in cartagena does not work. There are restrictions on places to go which make the bike not work; you cannot leave the bike in a park so that you can go in a shop (bike parks are often too "full"); they charge you to unlock it .... AVOID !!!

Good morning,

We're sad to hear you don't like the system in Cartagena. The zones in which you can and cannot use the bikes are decided together with the local authorities. You can see them marked in red in the app.
If you have a problem at the end of the ride or during the ride in general, you can contact our support team via the app and we will do our best to help you.

Hi Anne, I'm really sorry you didn't like the bikes. Many people do like to use them, but I understand they might not be ideal to ride along a path with lots of pebbles.

Only 4 steps per parking spot

Me and my partner went to a location, turned out there were only 4 parking spaced availlable in a very busy area, then the app said we had to put extra credit in our account before we could leave the spot. Yet we couldn't pauze the ride because there were no availlable parking spots. So the meter kept running and we had to put extra money om our accounts in the blistering heat, only to drive all the way back to our resort. 15 euro's per person down the drain only to end up where we started. It was so hot it was a nightmare

Hi Aria,

I'm really sorry you had such a negative experience! It's true that the parking zones can be full sometimes, but you can always pause the ride in the app. That way, the ride remains active, but you can leave it in any place for some time and it will be locked until you unlock the vehicle to take it back to a working parking zone

"Useless

"Useless. You rent one specifically to avoid walking up the hill. Then, you can't park it because the zone is full. So you head back down the hill to the place where you picked it up—there is space available, but the app still claims it's full. Next, you have to walk much further to a spot that finally accepts the parking. The result: walking even further than you originally had to. Meanwhile, the meter just keeps running. Paid 8 euros only to end up walking further than expected. The helpdesk is a useless bot too!"

Horrible!

Very, very bad experience. Horrible.
The bikes stopped working after 4 km. Then they started charging me nonstop. I had to block my bank card. They took almost €50 for 1 hour of use. I asked for an explanation and they replied that it's normal. It's cheaper to take a taxi.

Hi António, the rides are active until you end them in a parking zone. If you did not end the ride correctly it is possible that the price is higher than you expected.

These scooters are not fit for purpose

These scooters are not fit for purpose. The service is terrible. Just rented two for the first time in Tenerife, we tried to choose two which looked in best condition, the app wouldn’t let us, so we had to get in two the app selected for us, which looked like wrecks. Mine appeared to have a buckled wheel making it really difficult to ride.

When it came to ending the ride, I couldn’t. The app said we had to take the scooter all the way back to an allocated the parking spot. Basically back to where it came from. What’s the point of that?

Basically, poorly maintained, and a waste of time.

Hi Matthew,

We’re sorry to hear that your first experience with our scooters in Tenerife was disappointing.

Users are normally free to select any available scooter shown in the app. We would therefore like to investigate why you were unable to choose the vehicles yourself, as well as the condition of the scooter with the suspected wheel issue.

Please contact us via support@behoppy.eu with the phone number linked to your account and the approximate time and location of the rides, so our team can identify the scooters and review the charges.

To keep public spaces organised and prevent scooters from obstructing pavements, rides must be ended in one of the designated parking zones shown in the app. This does not necessarily have to be the same zone where the ride started, but it must be an authorised Hoppy parking location.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Your feedback will help us investigate the vehicles involved and improve the service.
