CNAME / Custom Domain

Updated 2026-10-15·11 min read

Give your published apps and shared links an address that your customers trust. Pick a free Taskade subdomain on any plan, or connect a custom domain with a CNAME record on Business and above.

TL;DR: Open Settings → Go Live → Domains on your Taskade Genesis app. A free taskade.site subdomain works on every plan. To use your own domain, such as app.yourcompany.com, click Connect, then add the CNAME record that Taskade shows at your DNS provider. Taskade adds the SSL certificate for you. Custom domains need Business, Max, or Enterprise.

In this guide, you will:

  • Pick a free Taskade subdomain
  • Connect a domain that you own with a CNAME record
  • Buy a new domain in Taskade
  • Fix the common domain errors

A published app on a custom domain

Before You Start

A free subdomain works on every plan. Your own domain needs Business or above.

Requirement Details
Plan for a free Taskade subdomain Every plan, Free included
Plan for your own domain Business, Max, or Enterprise. Each workspace can connect 1 custom domain. A higher credits / month level adds more: 2x the credits includes 2 domains.
What you need A published app, and access to the DNS settings at your domain provider. See Create Your First App.
Time About 5 minutes, plus the time that your DNS provider takes to update

Choose a Domain Type

The Domains panel offers four ways to get a web address.

Option in the panel Example Plan SSL
Free Taskade address your-app.taskade.app, made when you publish Every plan Automatic
Pick your own Taskade subdomain mycompany.taskade.site Every plan Automatic
Connect a domain you own app.yourdomain.com or yourdomain.com Business and above Automatic
Buy a brand-new domain A new domain that Taskade sets up for you Business and above Automatic

A workspace domain also brands the public links that you share from that workspace:

Area What you share Branded URL
Published Taskade Genesis apps Client portals, booking systems, dashboards myapp.my-domain.com
Published projects Timelines, deliverables, or progress updates. No account needed to view. mymarketing.my-domain.com/a/123456abc123
Published automations Processes and templates that others can reuse mymarketing.my-domain.com/flow-template/workflow456
Public forms Contact forms, surveys, or event sign-ups mymarketing.my-domain.com/f/contact789

Note: A custom domain on the Home space does not change the other spaces or apps. Set a domain for each folder or team separately.

Choosing a domain type for an app

Step 1: Get a Free Taskade Subdomain

A free subdomain gives you a branded link under taskade.site, such as mycompany.taskade.site.

  1. Open your workspace or app.
  2. Open its Settings, then go to Go Live → Domains.

Opening Settings for a workspace or app

The Domains tab in the left sidebar of Settings

  1. Next to Pick your own Taskade subdomain, click Pick address.

Choosing Taskade Subdomain under Add Domain

  1. In Choose your address, type the address that you want, for example "mycompany". It needs 6 to 20 characters: letters, numbers, and hyphens, not at the start or the end.

Typing a subdomain name

  1. Click Set address. To change an address later, click Update.

What you will see: The panel shows your new address. Your subdomain also applies to every public agent that you share from the workspace. See Public Agent Inbox.

The subdomain marked as Verified

Step 2: Connect Your Own Domain

Use this option for a domain that you already own, such as app.my-domain.com. It needs the Business, Max, or Enterprise plan.

  1. Open your app Settings.

Opening the app Settings

  1. Go to the Domains tab.

The Domains tab in the app Settings

  1. Next to Connect a domain you own, click Connect. On a lower plan, a Business badge shows instead.

Choosing between a Taskade subdomain and your own domain

  1. Type your domain. Taskade shows the exact DNS records to add.

Typing your own domain name

The DNS records that Taskade shows for your domain

  1. Click Copy all records, then add the records at your DNS provider. See Step 3.
  2. Go back to Taskade. Taskade checks your DNS records for you and emails you when the domain is connected.

What you will see: The status moves from Waiting to go live to Configuring SSL certificate, then to Your domain is live. This usually takes a few minutes and can take a few hours.

A connected custom domain with SSL active

Step 3: Add the DNS Records at Your Provider

Copy each value from the Domains panel in Taskade. Do not type the values by hand.

Record in Taskade What it does Do you need it?
CNAME Record Points your domain at external.taskade.com Yes
CNAME Record (SSL Validation) Lets Taskade issue and renew the SSL certificate. Set it once. Yes
TXT Record (SSL Validation) The older SSL record, shown only for some existing domains Only if Taskade shows it
Optional extra check (TXT) An extra ownership check Only if HTTPS still does not work after about 10 minutes

For a root domain such as yourdomain.com (no www), Taskade shows two options. Recommended: add an ALIAS, ANAME, or flattened CNAME at the root, if your registrar supports it. Option 2: point the domain's nameservers at Cloudflare, then add the record as DNS only (grey cloud).

Warning: If you use Cloudflare for DNS, set each Taskade record to DNS only (grey cloud). A proxied (orange cloud) record shows visitors "Error 1014" and the site does not load.

GoDaddy

  1. Log in to GoDaddy and go to My Domains.
  2. Select your domain and click DNS.
  3. Click Add Record and add each record from Taskade. Use the host and the value from the Domains panel.
  4. Click Save. DNS usually updates in 5 to 10 minutes.
  5. Go back to the Domains panel in Taskade and refresh the status.

Namecheap

  1. Log in, go to Domain List, and click Manage.
  2. Open the Advanced DNS tab.
  3. Add each record from Taskade. In the Host field, type only the subdomain part, for example app.
  4. Click the check mark icon to save each record.
  5. Go back to the Domains panel in Taskade and refresh the status.

DreamHost

  1. Log in, go to Websites, and click Manage for your domain.
  2. Click DNS Settings.
  3. Add each record from Taskade, with the host and the value from the Domains panel.
  4. Save the records. DNS changes usually take 5 to 30 minutes.
  5. Go back to the Domains panel in Taskade and refresh the status.

You Are Done When

The Domains panel shows Your domain is live, and your app opens at your domain with HTTPS.

Buy a Domain in Taskade

Taskade can find, buy, and set up a new domain for your app, with no DNS steps. It needs Business or above.

  1. Open your app.
  2. In the top-right corner, click the Publish drop-down.

Opening the Publish drop-down in an app

  1. Click Domains, then Buy Domain.

Clicking Buy Domain in the Domains menu

  1. Type a few words for your domain, then click Search.

Searching for an available domain name

  1. Select a domain, then click Add and Buy and Publish.

Selecting a domain and clicking Buy and Publish

  1. Follow the steps on the screen to finish the purchase.

Taskade sets up the DNS records and the SSL certificate for a domain that you buy. The domain renews each year, and you can turn auto-renew off in the Domains panel.

Troubleshooting

Find what you see in the left column, then do the fix.

What you see Why Fix
"Request HOST is not whitelisted" You typed a path that the domain does not serve Open the published link from the app or the Domains panel.
"custom hostname does not CNAME to this zone" The CNAME record does not point at Taskade yet Make sure that the CNAME points at external.taskade.com, then wait. DNS changes can take up to 24 hours.
"Your SSL validation record is a TXT: it must be a CNAME" The SSL record was added as TXT Delete the TXT record, then add it again as a CNAME with the SSL Validation values.
Visitors see "Error 1014" The record is proxied in Cloudflare (orange cloud) Set the record to DNS only (grey cloud).
"SSL validation timed out or expired" The records were missing for too long Make sure that the records are still in place, then click Refresh.
A message says that you used all the custom domains in your plan The workspace connected every domain that its plan includes Remove a domain that you no longer use, or pick a higher credits / month level for your plan on the upgrade page.

Tips

  • Keep your brand the same everywhere. Every public Taskade link carries your domain.
  • Look professional to clients. Share public agents and apps on an address that is easy to remember.
  • Promote your work. Use a custom or free subdomain in marketing campaigns.
  • Polish your proposals. Put branded links in client proposals and presentations.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fix the "Request HOST is not whitelisted" error?

A domain serves only its supported public links. For example, if mymarketing.taskade.site is your subdomain, only public links like mymarketing.taskade.site/a/123456abc123 resolve. Open the published link from the app or the Domains panel rather than typing a path by hand.

How do I fix the "custom hostname does not CNAME to this zone" error?

The CNAME record at your domain provider does not point at Taskade yet, so no certificate exists. Make sure that the CNAME points at external.taskade.com with no typos. Then wait, because DNS changes can take up to 24 hours.

Which plan do I need for a custom domain?

Custom domains are on the Business, Max, and Enterprise plans. Each workspace can connect 1 custom domain, and a higher credits / month level adds more: 2x the credits includes 2 domains. Free, Starter, and Pro do not include them. A free taskade.site or taskade.app address works on every plan.

Can I use a root domain, or only a subdomain?

Both. A subdomain like app.yourdomain.com uses a CNAME that points at external.taskade.com. A root domain like yourdomain.com uses an ALIAS, ANAME, or flattened CNAME at the root, or nameservers at Cloudflare. Taskade shows the right records when you type the domain.

Does Taskade add the SSL certificate for me?

Yes. After your DNS records resolve, Taskade issues the SSL certificate and renews it for you. Keep the CNAME Record (SSL Validation) in place so that renewals keep working.
