When I started at Tabs a year ago, the "revenue team" was just me, Michael Zhang and a mandate from Deepak Bapat: figure out revenue. Fast forward to today, and the Tabs engineering team is nearly 50 engineers (5 on the revenue team!) and growing fast to support the next wave of revenue features. I just got a sneak peek of our 2026 roadmap and it’s really…really exciting. Along the way we’ve added incredible accountants (AKA our CPYAYs) to the team like Molly Mullinger and Marshall Budin who shape how we build. They call us out when we're not thinking like accountants and keep us focused on the real workflows because they (used to) live them. The problems are hard. The edge cases are endless. The impact is massive. And this team is genuinely special. It's been a blast figuring out how to build a scalable, generational rev rec system with really smart people. If this sounds interesting, we're looking for another rockstar engineer - link to apply in the comments! 😊

We at Tabs are shipping with insane velocity for Finance as it relates to usage based billing. Your usage billing cycle is only as fast as your ability to answer one question: “Which invoice is associated with this usage event?” When you can’t answer “what happened?” without jumping across CSVs, tools, and invoices, billing slows down, errors pile up, and revenue leakage creeps in. Today, we’re announcing two upgrades in Tabs that make this much better 👇 1️⃣ A faster usage CSV upload experience, with clear error handling Upload your CSV file, map columns, and validate before submitting Download an Errors CSV that tells you exactly which rows failed + why  Fix any errors and re-upload without leaving the platform 2️⃣ A real-time Events view that ties usage events directly to their invoices Have one place to inspect every usage event, whether it came from API, a CSV, or an invoice edits. Clearer traceability from usage to invoice for faster troubleshooting The result: ✅ Faster billing cycles ✅ Faster investigations ✅ Less engineering ping-pong ✅ Cleaner month-end close and audit trails This is what it looks like when usage-based billing is built on the right foundation. Around 2016, when I started working at early-stage startups, I began eating lunch at my desk. There was always something that needed to get done urgently, and that meant staying glued to my screen so I could pump out work. This continued through the pandemic, when eating at my desk was the obvious choice in an empty apartment. We’ve built an in-office culture at Tabs and recently moved into a new office. As part of this, we shifted to daily delivered lunches with a dedicated cafeteria, which led to lunches being more communal and social. However, I still found myself eating at my desk or in conference rooms. Additionally, with our explosive growth, I found less time to talk with people across the organization more casually than in 1:1s or meetings. More recently, I shifted to eating in our cafeteria. It’s been incredibly energizing to hear from BDRs, Implementation Managers, the Marketing team, and others about what they are experiencing. It’s helped kindle additional empathy for where we can be doing better, and has already provided tremendous context for me with regard to company building. This is a change I expect to keep up for as long as possible. Obviously, it’s not always possible every day. But whenever I can, I close my laptop (gotta keep Slack on the phone open, though) and pull up a chair. At the very least, I’ll probably be part of an interesting conversation.

2026 is here. We are JUST GETTING STARTED 🚀

We. Are. Back. After an incredible 2025 Tabs, it feels energizing to be back together after our first full week of 2026. As we kick off the new year, one thing feels more certain than ever: revenue is hitting a real inflection point. For decades, revenue was relatively simple and predictable. IBM sold on-prem software. Salesforce rented it. Amazon Web Services (AWS) priced usage. Complexity existed but it was manageable. Today? Revenue has fundamentally changed. 2026 will bring the most complex and creative revenue models in history. Revenue is now dynamic. AI has accelerated this shift and pricing is racing to keep up. And this is now the norm as every company is an “AI Company.” At Tabs, we’re seeing a mix of consumption, seat-based, outcomes, hybrid contracts, and constantly evolving value metrics. Net dollar retention is harder to predict. Scaling revenue is less linear. Rev Rec is facing new types of challenges. Finance teams are carrying more nuance, and more manual work, than ever before. This is a new era. What makes this moment so exciting is that we’re still in the early innings.  There are ~3M B2B companies in the U.S. alone navigating this shift right now. At Tabs, we’re building for exactly where revenue is going and supporting this at some of the world’s most scaled / fastest growing companies: ➡️ The most complex mix of revenue models we’ve ever seen ➡️ Usage, Usage and did I say Usage!  ➡️ Higher volume, higher ACV, real money moving through systems ➡️ Less manual work, faster payments, clearer insight ➡️ From billing software → AI-native revenue platform 🙏 Right place. Right time. Right team. If there’s one thing I’m most grateful for heading into 2026, it’s this group of people building through the complexity and shaping what comes next. Let’s go. 🚀

The #1 reason you don't get paid on time isn't collections. It’s that you're invoicing too late. Ali Hussain, Founder of Tabs, breaks it down: Deal closes end of quarter → data sits in sales for days → accounting closes books → board meeting → invoice finally goes out 16 days late → customer resets the payment clock. Thursday, January 15th at 1pm ET, Paul Peterson sits down with Ali for Episode 4 of The Accounting Disruptors Podcast to break down how AI is fixing the revenue operations crisis draining finance teams.
