Joined Founder Sophia Jarvis, CFA, CEO & Co-Founder of Mia Wealth, and Aviva Investors, last week for its launch event in central London. Interesting conversation about their advice and plans for investing for children instead of buying them more stuff, and what it could look like if society started building wealth from birth. A 'Junior Pension' is a mature response to a less certain future. Will be closely following this growing sector. And great to catch up with Susannah Streeter and swap notes on business topics keeping us on our toes!

We're live! 🎉 Mia Wealth is officially launched. Parents can now set up a Junior Stocks and Shares ISA for their child's future. Once it's set up, family and friends can gift straight into the account. We also announced our Junior Pension partnership with Aviva Investors - watch this space! Our launch event on Friday was brilliant and it was the first time meeting some of the team in person. Such a good feeling. Download the app, link in the comments. 👇

About a year ago, I was toying with the idea that someone needs to find a way to encourage more parents to set up Junior ISAs and pensions for their children. Nowhere near enough people take advantage and fewer still understand the power of compound interest. A small regular amount in a child's account, properly invested over 18 years, can produce a huge outcome that could change the course of that child’s life. If you let it run in a Junior SIPP until pensionable age, the additional compound effect can be staggering. I was thinking about how to get more eyes onto this. I started a half-baked newsletter on investing. It had rubbish neon pink and navy branding and went nowhere. Then I met Sophia, who was in the thick of building Mia Wealth. Sophia had identified this gap but was applying a much deeper level of insight. She’d paired this concept of children not being invested early enough with the observation that at the same time, we create enormous physical waste by giving young children toys and stuff that they really don't need. I'm about to start going through the ‘birthday party phase’. I've been shown, by friends already in it, entire rooms full of gifts that they’re very grateful for, from loving and well-intended friends and family, but which will hardly see the light of day. There is so much waste and it doesn’t really do much for children’s long-term wellbeing. What if instead of another Spiderman or Lego set, a fraction of the monetary amount spent by even a few of that child’s benefactors was gifted directly into the child’s investment account and left to compound, tax free, over decades? Mia allows that to happen seamlessly and classily. It’s an innovation which I really believe can positively change children’s futures, and our culture. I think you’ll be seeing and hearing about them a lot more. I was sure that Sophia and team were onto something, so I invested in Mia a year ago and saved myself from the embarrassment of my floundering newsletter. Until now, the team has been deep in the weeds of the myriad challenges of building a regulated, working, trustworthy fintech with an impeccable brand. On Friday, I was incredibly proud to be at their launch event. 🎁 Things are about to take off. Mia Wealth will be all over your NCT, nursery and school WhatsApp groups before you know it and you saw it here first 🚀 —— Not investment advice, views are my own, do your own research 📸 also I’m rubbish and never get any photos from these things with me in it. But a selfie on the way home with branded chocolate is as good as any. Alma Angels

It’s brilliant to see an all-female founding team launching a UK Fintech. My good friend Sophia Jarvis, CFA , ex-wealth manager and mum of twins has launched Mia Wealth in partnership with Aviva Investors 🚀 The stats: - £4 billion spent on toys last year for children - The average 10yr old owns 238 toys …and plays with just 12! Their mission: To make investing for children’s futures as simple as buying them a present. Congratulations to Sophia Jarvis, CFA and the wider Mia Wealth team 👏🏼 And lovely to meet so many speakers and female founders at the event last week - Katie Guild, Rotimi Merriman-Johnson DipFA, Mark Versey, Sara Stokes, Sarah Young, Sam Cooper-Gray,

When I first met Sophia Jarvis, CFA at the start of 2025 and she told me about the idea behind Mia, I remember thinking it was brilliant. Last week, I had the pleasure of joining Sophia and the team to celebrate the launch of Mia Wealth and it was pretty special to see something I first heard about as an idea become a reality. What resonated with me then, and still does now, is the focus on helping families think about their children’s financial futures. Over the years, my daughter has received money for birthdays, Christmas and other occasions. I’d always intended to invest some of it for her, but with so much choice, I kept putting off deciding where and how. The money simply stayed in a savings account. So there was something rather fitting about attending the launch having finally done what I’d been meaning to do for years: opening a Junior ISA for my daughter. I’m a big believer in children learning about money and investing as they grow up — it’s one of the reasons we created a financial literacy course for kids in the first place. For me, this isn’t just about building a pot for my daughter’s future. I want her to understand what we’re doing with her money, why we’re doing it and, eventually, feel confident making those decisions for herself. Huge congratulations to Sophia and the whole Mia team on reaching such an exciting milestone. Having heard about the vision in those early days, it was lovely to be there to see it come to life. 💜 #JISA #Investing #JuniorISA #FinancialLiteracy #FinancialEducation Aviva Investors

82% of our Nugget Savings parents said they did not know the difference between a Junior cash ISA, Junior Stocks & Shares account, JSIPP and Premium Bonds and honestly... I didn't either until I started running Nugget. I'd definitely never heard of a JSIPP. In the aftermath of having a baby, there's often a heart-stopping moment of realisation that you're in charge of this little person's future. And you're desperate to do anything you can to make that future as stable as possible. Cue lots of panic, late night research and feelings of inadequacy. Our audience also told us whilst frantic to build secure financial futures for their babies, they also felt 👇 - They didn't know enough - They were worried about the risk involved - They didn't have the spare cash - They didn't know where to start At the Mia Wealth launch event on Friday I had the pleasure of speaking on the panel - and I also learnt a huge amount too. I ADORE Sophia Jarvis, CFA's killer line that our children have a powerful advantage over every adult in the room - the power of time. Small contributions now can build into meaningful amounts of money. It's a conversation I want to approach really sensitively with new parents. It's a really tough financial time when you've just had a baby - you're likely on very low pay for maternity leave, battling a mountain of new baby related costs and have dreaded nursery fees looming. Layering a load of guilt about 'invest NOW or miss out' is not helpful. Which is why I love Mia Wealth's approach so much. What if you swapped new toys (MORE! that you don't have space for!) with sticking a couple of quid in to invest? What if you redirected well meaning grandparents keen to shower presents into depositing money into a future pension? One thing I know to be absolutely certain is: knowledge is power. If you feel anxious about investing & saving, it's probably a knowledge gap. Which is why I'm delighted to be hosting another masterclass with Sophia Jarvis, CFA: 'How to start investing for your children' this Thursday @ 7.30pm. If you've been wanting to dip your toe in but don't know where to start - take this as your sign!! Come join us - it's a friendly, easy to understand session which has had INCREDIBLE feedback every time we've run it. Link in the comments xx

On Friday, I had the pleasure of attending the launch of the Mia Wealth app powered by Aviva Investors. A huge congratulations to Sophia Jarvis, CFA on bringing this to life. It was great to be in a room with people who are passionate about changing the conversation around money, investing and wealth creation. As someone who is extremely passionate about generational wealth, I’m particularly interested in the conversations around investing for children and starting early. In the UK, parents have several options available to start building wealth for their children, including: • Junior Stocks & Shares ISAs allowing parents to invest up to £9,000 per tax year, with investment growth and income sheltered from UK tax. The account becomes the child’s at 18. • Junior pensions (Junior SIPPs) a much longer term option designed for retirement. Contributions can benefit from tax relief, with up to £3,600 gross contributed each tax year (£2,880 from the parent, plus tax relief). These are very different vehicles with very different purposes, but they highlight an important point: Starting early can give your money more time to compound. Generational wealth isn’t just about how much money we leave behind. It’s also about the financial knowledge, habits and opportunities we pass on. This is exactly why I created Shads Invests to make financial education and investing more accessible and help more people feel confident about building wealth intentionally. Congratulations again Sophia Jarvis, CFA and the Mia Wealth team. It was a pleasure to celebrate the launch. 🚀

It's easier to invest for your children than it is for yourself. That was the idea Antoinette and I left with after the Aviva Investors x Mia Wealth Junior Pension launch in London on Friday. When it's for you, there's always a reason to wait. The holiday. The deposit. Next month. When it's for your kids, the excuses get quieter. We invest for our girls through a Junior ISA. Nothing complicated. We put a fixed amount in every month and treat it like a direct debit. Fewer than 1 in 10 UK children have investments in their name. I don't think that's because parents don't care. It's probably because no one really made it feel normal or accessible which is why the event on Friday was so important. So I'm curious: Do you invest for your children? And if you do, what made you start?

🗓️ This Friday, the 18th of September, I'm joining Mia Wealth and Aviva Investors for UK Pensions Week to talk about how do we get the next generation investing earlier. I'll be speaking on a panel with people from wealth management, pensions, fintech and financial education, talking about: ⌛ Time. It's the biggest advantage you can give a child, and most parents don't use it 🎁 Gifting. Less "stuff", more shares in their future. 📈 Junior Pensions. Could they actually move the needle on long-term security. 🤏 The gap. Could starting earlier help close the gender and ethnicity wealth gaps we still see decades later As fewer than 1 in 10 UK children have investments in their name, it's great to see that Mia Wealth wants to fix that. Make it as easy to invest for a kid as it is to buy them a toy. I'm really looking forward to talking with: Rotimi Merriman-Johnson DipFA, Ellie Austin-Williams, Megan Micklewright, Mathew Gay and Katie Guild. Watch this space! 👀
