Every year we inspire over 250,000 people to take part in our events in cities all over the country accompanied by world class athletes. Since our inception, over 4 million adults and 600,000 children have crossed our finish lines raising £775 million for charity. Today our participants are part of a year-round community running network, supported by 10,000 volunteers, cheered on by over 600,000 spectators and watched live on television by an audience of over 8 million viewers. Heralding from the North East, Burn joins a veritable roll call of local heroes who have performed official starting duties at the world’s greatest half marathon since it first began in 1981 including Sting, Ant and Dec, Sir Bobby Robson, Alan Shearer, Mark Knopfler, Jill Scott and Steph Houghton. Great North Run Week 2026 is officially underway. This morning, we helped celebrate the launch of the GNR45 x Mul exclusive collection at our partner Fenwick, kicking off a programme of fringe events culminating in 63,000 runners taking to the start line this Sunday. The limited-edition GNR45 collection celebrates 45 years of the AJ Bell Great North Run and was created by renowned North East artist Mul Draws, whose artwork also features on this year's official event medal and finisher t-shirt. It will be available at Fenwick Newcastle on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 September, alongside in-store personalised printing sessions. Already well known across the North East, Mul's artwork will now be seen by visitors from around the world, helping to share the region's character and identity with a global audience.
