New research suggests the public's ambition for nature recovery is significantly ahead of current policy ambitions. Polling commissioned by The Wildlife Trusts, alongside National Trust, RSPB, The Woodland Trust and WWF-UK, found that people think an average of 61% of Britain's land should be protected for nature. By comparison, the UK Government's current commitment is to protect 30% of land and sea for nature by 2030. The findings also reveal a striking perception gap. On average, people believe 31% of Britain's land is already protected for nature, when the reality is no more than 11%. The research, conducted by More in Common, shows that nature is one of the issues that unites people across political divides. Crucially, the research shows that support for nature recovery transcends political divides. People who vote for and support parties right across the political spectrum share a strong attachment to the natural world and want to see it better protected. The research, conducted by More in Common, found that: - 46% say nature and wildlife is their favourite thing about where they live. - Nature is the biggest source of local pride for people across all major political parties. - Almost half of Britons believe nature is in decline. Alongside the polling, we've also launched 'Fix nature, fix so much more', bringing together evidence from more than 200 academic studies that demonstrate how restoring nature can improve health, strengthen communities, support food security and help protect people from dangerous weather. At a time when policymakers are focused on economic growth, these findings are a reminder that investing in nature is not separate from delivering for people. It is a foundation for healthier communities, a more resilient economy and a better quality of life. Fix nature. Fix the nation.

The Surrey headquarters of Fidelity International demonstrates how nature-positive land management can create spaces where nature, work and recreation thrive side by side. We're delighted to share that the organisation has successfully retained its Biodiversity Benchmark accreditation for another year at its Kingswood Fields site near Tadworth, Surrey. More than just the grounds of an office, the site is a diverse landscape of gardens, woodland and veteran trees, carefully managed to support wildlife while providing an inspiring environment for employees. Even within formally landscaped areas, plant selections have been made with pollinators in mind, using single-flowering varieties that provide accessible nectar and pollen sources. What particularly stood out to the Benchmark assessors was the strength of collaboration behind the site's success. Fidelity provides strategic oversight, JW Biodiversity Management leads ecological surveys and planning, and Nurture Group delivers habitat management on the ground. Together, they have created a coordinated approach that is delivering tangible benefits for biodiversity. The site also shows how nature recovery can support people. Staff are encouraged to enjoy and engage with the grounds, with a dedicated wildlife group helping employees build biodiversity knowledge, develop practical conservation skills and strengthen their connection with nature. Monitoring has revealed a remarkable diversity of wildlife, including badgers, foxes and roe deer captured on camera traps. Surveys have also recorded all three pipistrelle bat species, alongside serotine, noctule, Leisler's and brown long-eared bats, while fungal DNA analysis identified an impressive 118 species. Congratulations to everyone involved in managing and enhancing this special site, with special thanks to James Webster and Richard Leadbeater. Another milestone passed in our Rothbury appeal! With 7 days still remaining before the deadline, more than 7,000 donors have helped our Rothbury Estate match appeal reach its target. This extraordinary collective effort has given a major boost to the wider campaign to raise £30 million and secure the future of The Rothbury Estate, one of the most significant opportunities for nature recovery in England. What began as a £100,000 match fund grew to £800,000, thanks to the generosity of The Dixon Foundation, Ringtons, The Walker Foundation, The Spear Charitable Trust and an anonymous donor, who responded to the remarkable momentum created by supporters. This achievement demonstrates the power of people, communities, trusts, foundations and businesses coming together behind a shared vision for nature. To everyone who donated, shared the appeal, attended events, volunteered, fundraised or championed the project: thank you.
