The first-ever rewilding debate in the Scottish parliament is happening next week. Join us to demand action on climate shocks 🌍⚡ Communities across Scotland are facing a future of extreme weather as a result of climate breakdown. Fires blazing through much-loved landscapes, droughts and devastating floods are real threats to our homes and livelihoods. These aren't separate, isolated disasters. They are climate shocks with the exact same root cause: degraded landscapes that have lost their capacity to hold water. Yet there is hope. Following our national Rewild to Recover campaign, next Wednesday, 30th September, the Scottish Parliament will debate a motion calling for urgent solutions: - A national Scottish Landscape Resilience Summit - A UK-wide Climate Shock Fund to scale up nature-based defences Here is how you can stand up for nature next week 📣  - Join us at Holyrood (from 3 PM): Gather with us outside Parliament to make some noise, then join us in the Public Gallery to show MSPs from every party that the public demands landscape restoration. - Contact your MSP: Please contact your MSP immediately if you haven't already to sign the motion, attend the debate and speak up for nature. Either email them directly or you can use our e-action tool. Together, we can build resilience across Scotland's landscapes. The inaugural Large Herbivore Working Group (LHWG) Conference took place this week 🦬🐴 It’s been so exciting to be part of the team bringing people together to learn about wild and semi-wild herbivores and how we can apply this knowledge to rewilding in Britain. We talk a lot about keystone species within a rewilding context. The loss of our guild of wild grazers and browsers such as elk and bison alongside more familiar ponies, cattle and boar means the loss of an essential part of the species ‘toolkit’ that helps keep the wider ecosystem in balance. And that when restored in the correct conditions, can help turn around Britain’s fortunes as one of the most nature-depleted places on Earth in terms of wildlife.  What is the LHWG and why is it important to rewilding?  The overall aim of the group is ‘to advance the return of large grazing animals and other ungulates to aid in the restoration of natural processes in the UK’. It’s the only forum of its kind to currently exist at a UK scale. There’s so much expertise out there on large herbivores, but there are still gaps in knowledge that can be filled through collaborative discussion and insight-sharing within the group. We were delighted to be at The Big Picture Conference in Perth yesterday alongside hundreds of people who share a passion for restoring nature and creating a wilder future for Scotland and beyond. With inspiring talks and thoughtful discussions, it was a fantastic day of ideas, connection and shared ambition. We came away feeling inspired by the all the amazing work happening across the rewilding movement! A huge thank you to the team at SCOTLAND: The Big Picture for bringing everyone together, and to everyone we met and chatted with throughout the day. #BigPictureConference

One shared goal for nature’s recovery 🌿 From upland farm to community-owned land, estates to cattle-grazed woodlands and all the way to the sea, these diverse large-scale projects are showing what’s possible through rewilding – and learning, sharing and supporting one another through the Rewilding Network.  In this new film, take a visit to thriving projects across Britain, who are sharing their diverse stories to show how real, large-scale models of rewilding land and sea can work in practice – and how the Rewilding Network provides invaluable support. “Bringing back the lynx would not, on its own, solve our biodiversity crisis. But it could be an important part of wider efforts on nature restoration, with potential benefits for our landscapes, communities and rural economies.” The role lynx can play in woodland regeneration and ecosystem repair is crucial to acknowledge in future nature restoration plans. Thanks to Josh Newbury MP for raising this important issue through his recent article for LabourList, where he explores what a more ambitious approach to nature recovery might look like for Britain and the UK Government.  The Missing Lynx Project’s consultation found 72% of people out of 10,000+ living in the region where the lynx could be reintroduced were supportive. The public has spoken: 74% of people think the UK government isn’t preparing well enough for extreme weather ⛈️🌡️ Our new YouGov polling shows a demand for action: - 62% want the UK government to invest more in nature restoration to tackle events like flooding, droughts and heatwaves. - Just 15% think enough is being done. - Only 3% want less investment. The message is clear. Nature is one of our best defences against climate breakdown — and the public knows it. That’s why our Rewild to Recover campaign is demanding urgent action from the government to back rewilding as a vital climate change solution. Will you join us?
