This week, we welcomed our very first school groups to the newly built Kusuma Neolithic Hall at Stonehenge. ✨ Built by our wonderful volunteers using experimental archaeology, the hall offers pupils an immersive, hands-on way to explore prehistory through expert-led workshops. Inspired by Stonehenge’s Neolithic creators, pupils will be experimenting with the replica tools and materials that would have been used to construct the iconic stone circle. Our multi-disciplinary Discovery Visit workshops support the National Curriculum for KS1 and 2, bringing learning to life through practical activities such as mixing pigment paints, making pottery and creating nets. We're also working behind the scenes, to make it possible for our visitors to step inside and experience this remarkable space. More information coming soon…

A few pence might not feel like much. Today, Asquith Xavier was commemorated with a blue plaque in Notting Hill. Xavier famously fought against workplace racial discrimination, becoming the first Black worker employed as a train guard at London Euston station in 1966.

We were all treated to two amazing celestial events yesterday, so we just had to share how beautiful they looked above the ancient monument of Stonehenge. 📣 We are delighted to announce the appointment of Tim Reeve CBE as our next Chief Executive. Tim is currently Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer at the Victoria and Albert Museum. He is one of the most outstanding and capable leaders in our sector. Highlights from his tenure at the V&A include the groundbreaking V&A East Museum & Storehouse, and the establishment of V&A Dundee. Tim started his career at English Heritage, first as a Registry Assistant before progressing to the role of Director of Historic Properties. He will return to English Heritage as our Chief Executive in November. Both our Chair, Tony Hales CBE, and our board of trustees would like to thank and pay tribute to Geoff Parkin, who has been our Interim Chief Executive for the last 12 months. A £100,000 grant from The Wolfson Foundation will support the transformation of Berwick Barracks, Northumberland, as part of The Living Barracks project. The funding will help bring this Grade I-listed site, which has stood at the heart of Berwick’s history since 1717, back into public use, creating a sustainable, year-round destination for visitors and the local community. Due for completion in 2027, the project will unite Berwick’s collections, including the Town Collection, the Burrell Collection and King’s Own Scottish Borderers regimental artefacts. Thank you to the Wolfson Foundation and all our other generous supporters for helping secure the future of this remarkable site.
