Hello, Sorry to hear this, it does indeed sound like a scam and you are right to ignore it.
We are a UK telephone company and the number in question IS one allocated to us by ofcom. However is not allocated to or in use by any of our customers.
Our logs show NO SMS as having been sent from this number from our systems.
I strongly expect the number has been spoofed by someone else.
Feel free to report this to the authorities, you may also be able to report it to your mobile phone operator too - see https://www.ncsc.gov.uk/collection/phishing-scams/report-scam-text-message
