In short:- My initial enquiry was dealt with swiftly and I had a proposal based on my requirements in my inbox within 24 hours. This was followed up the next day by Richard Scot who talked me through the process and answered my questions. Once I'd signed up I was handed over to Charlie who co-ordinated the actual installation. Both were friendly and professional. They both responded swiftly to my emailed queries often by phone and were eager to answer any questions.

The installation itself went like clockwork and took just over 6 hours. Angelo the electrical contractor and his team of 3 including 2 roofers were swift and efficient. I am very happy with the end result. Both the panels and internal controls look very good.

In more detail:-

My solar journey began in January when I reached out to my energy provider for a quote. It was 3 months before I could get a survey at which point it became apparent they couldn't come up with a cost effective solution. (Mainly due to the size of the 10 Kwh battery ) So I turned to Boxt.

Frankly I should have approached Boxt in the first place having been highly satisfied with the boiler they fitted 3 years ago. So satisfied in fact that I felt able to recommend them to my mother in law. High praise indeed! She was equally impressed.

I have a small 2 bedroomed cottage and as such was looking to have the battery and inverter in the loft out of the way. I wasn't sure how many panels I could fit on the roof but having applied on line to Boxt for a quote which includes the provision of photographs they came back with an acceptable proposal. 8 panels with 2 x 5 Kwh batteries and a suitable inverter. This was at the end of March.

I accepted the proposal on the 4th April and paid my 25% deposit. Richard handed me over to Charlie who contacted me on the 8th April for a few more photo's and a copy of my electricity bill. On the 11th April the installation date was confirmed as 24th April with scaffolding to be erected 2 days before and taken down 2 days afterwards.

Everything ran like clockwork. Scaffolding went up without a hitch on the Monday. Wednesday work started at 8am and was completed by 2 30pm with the contractors cleaning up after themselves. The system can be monitored through an online portal or mobile phone app and Angelo talked me through the app before leaving.

The batteries and inverter are manufactured by Sunsynk and it is their Sunsynk Connect app that is used to both monitor and control the system. Having read some mixed reviews online I was initially a little concerned about its reliability but I have to say that todate I haven't had any major issues. It has hung up a few times but a quick refresh has resolved the problem. It does provide a lot of historic information as well as a flow diagram. My one gripe is that there are a lot of menus and sub menus many of which you are never going to use but nowhere does it tell you how to force charge and discharge the battery. This information is covered in the inverters manuel which I had to find on line and download. I think a quick reference guide would be helpful explaining, amongst other things, how to take advantage of cheap import tariffs and profitable export tariffs.

All the above said I am very happy with the system and I am already reaping the rewards of savings available from solar energy despite the limited availability of direct sunlight since installation. The panels are happy to produce on UV alone on all but the most cloudy of days.

At the moment I find it difficult to resist checking my app ever 5 minutes to see what's happening. I'm sure the novelty will wear off!

Update 15/6/24

Been up and running for 7 weeks now and very happy with my solar system. I got my handover pack 28 days after installation which included MCS certificate and DNO letter which enabled me to apply to my provider for an export tariff. This was up and running a week later. (Outgoing Octopus 🐙)
