It’s another digital sweatshop…
It’s another digital sweatshop basically. Now they are mostly recruiting for legal transcription, falsely advertising it as a lucrative sidejob, while the reality is you need to wait days logged in at the computer whole day to “catch a job”. If you log off and not stare at the screen all day to see if something will pop up, you will definitely not find any work there. And even if you do spend the whole day staring at the screen, it’s not guaranteed you will get a job. People go through the trouble of passing exams and submitting their IDs and then don’t get any work for months. But if you manage to somehow get a job after hours or days of wasting your time on waiting, you will get $15 to $25 for working multiple hours doing specialised work. That can come to about $3-4 per hour of your time. They employ a lot of people from developing countries, especially Africa, who find this a reasonable deal, I guess. The computer transcription that they use for their legal transcripts that you are supposed to edit is absolutely criminal for no good reason and makes the job much more difficult than it should be, and you are forbidden from using another transcription software. Jobs that have very difficult audio and can take days to complete, are paid the same rate. They keep dangling the carrot to people telling them that if they work hard enough they will be “promoted to special teams”, but the reality is these “special teams” often pay even less and have much worse audio, not to mention also do not have much jobs available. Not worth it.
A complete scam
A complete scam. People invest a lot of time to pass their complex exam process, however the system is apparently automated to randomly mark correct work as incorrect. Maybe this is something to do with the number of transcribers they need at any given time or a technical glitch. If I could give 0 stars I would.
If I could give 0 stars I would.
It took me almost 2 months to pass the transcription exercises. After I passed then my account was blocked.
When I reached out to them for help, the response was that I had more than 1 account and submitted someone else's work😮
From where?
I asked for evidence and their response was a borderline rude regurgitation of the same thing said in the first instance. I'm not sure what their angle or deal is but I'd not recommend this company.
Bright side, I have learned a new skill. Sort of 😉
I aced that exam because I have 9 years…
I aced that exam because I have 9 years experience editing and 5 of that in legal files. Yet they failed me for cheating!! That exam was too easy. Was I supposed to make it look hard? I don't understand!!! So disappointed.
Doesn't even deserve a star of you ask…
Doesn't even deserve a star of you ask me. I did a basic English exam and I knew all the answers and answered correctly and they way they wanted it and yet they failed me! They failed me and I am proficient in English and the questions were easy and I'm now awaiting a reply because I am beyond livid.
They use an automated system to mark…
They use an automated system to mark assessments you need to pass to be accepted for a job. There is something incredibly dodgy about their marking system as the automated system randomly fails you, even if you have every question correct. I have screenshots to prove the answers are correct, but were marked wrong. This is unethical in the extreme and I suggest everyone else here who feels scammed file a complaint.
Do not waste your time
After doing eight sections of a very long exam, taking time to do proper research and following the rules, they emailed me a vague rejection claiming I shared information with another account - which I did not. This is after asking me to upload my details and ID. I wish I had read these other reviews before I wasted my whole day. Trash company.
TranscribeMe wiped my exam progress — and they couldn’t care less
I spent about 10 hours working through the Legal Prequalification Exam at TranscribeMe. I took it seriously. I work in IT, I follow directions, and I saved my work carefully.
I passed the first exam on my second try and was excited to finally move forward. I started the second exam, didn’t pass on the first attempt, and planned to double down, review the guide again, and try once more.
That’s when everything went wrong. When I logged in the next morning, my entire history was gone — every module, every saved section, completely wiped. No message saying I failed, no explanation at all. My dashboard looked as if I’d never started the process.
I contacted support immediately. Twice. Both times, I got the same canned responses telling me to reread the style guide and assuring me my “answers were graded correctly.” That’s not what I asked. My data disappeared. I wasn’t asking for feedback — I was asking someone to check the logs and confirm what happened.
As someone who works in IT, I know this isn’t impossible to verify. They have records. But instead of addressing the actual problem, they brushed me off and implied user error.
I’ve now lost hours of unpaid work trying to qualify for a gig I needed during a hard financial stretch. If they fix it, I’ll update this post. But right now, I wouldn’t trust this platform. You can do everything right — save your work, follow every rule — and still have it all vanish overnight with zero accountability.
Thanks to the Reviewers and Trustpilot
Thankfully, I didn’t take the test after seeing the negative Trustpilot reviews. Saved myself from wasting time on a scam.
They are fake and racist people who are…
They are fake and racist people who are uneducated. I don't recommend anyone to do this job and work with them. They should get a big (ZERO)O star. They are a big scam. Cheats and don't pay out at all. And block your account with no reason because they don't wants to pays. They are looking for Free labor. And when you do the test they give you wrong score even if you pass the test. They will say you FAIL.
They need to remove this site.
Scam Alert!
I made my account over there and I realized that they asked me to give a test but when I tried to click on the test nothing appears anymore
I wanted to delete my account so I send them countless emails because every time I click on "manage account" nothing happens either
The only one to steal your data and there is no work available to please don't waste your time
Click bait for job seekers.
Click bait for job seekers.
Don't bother as there is no actual work.
The first thing you do is the onboarding process including uploading your ID.
The net result? ZIP. ZERO.
They have no work. Parasites
Great service for personal use
I submitted close to 200 personal recordings to TranscribeMe in 2024 and have been consistently satisfied with the result, the turnaround time, and the price. I'm so glad I found this service.
Misleading and Unethical Business…
Misleading and Unethical Business practices.
1. At point of registration, I was required to provide a government ID to verify...identity. I also ticked a box about terms and conditions with generic privacy information.
2. Only AFTER uploading a gov. identity document did I receive infromation that English transcription services are closed with no scheduled reopening.
This is misleading and the company does not follow basic ethics and best practices about collecting personal information, which should not be collected unnecessarily.
If this has happened to you: File a complaint with the FTC- It's really easy and if enough of us do, the shady business practices may be held accountable.
(FTC does not, in contrast, require any personal information)
SCAM!!! such a massive waste of time
such a massive waste of time. do not even bother with this company they are the lowest of the low and offer terrible pay.
Scammers.
I wish I'd checked with TrustPilot first. I read on a jobs site that they were a good firm to work for (but then I guess they pay for the promotion), so I went through the application process, giving my phone number and even uploading a copy of my passport since they requested photo ID.
At the end of this process, where there's supposed to be an exam, I got the message: "This exam is currently closed. We do not have a set reopen date. Please check back later."
Having read other reviews on here from people who went through the same months back, I wish I hadn't wasted my time and handed over my personal details.
Account problems
Creating an account was easy, but there is NO WAY TO DELETE IT.
I went to the knowledgebase for freelancers, and there was an entry for "How can I delete my account?", but it didn't actually SHOW HOW TO DELETE MY ACCOUNT!
Closed down or simply incompetent
May have closed down or are simply incompetent.
I signed up quite a while ago and never progressed through the exam process. When I came back and tried ~6 months ago I was greeted with the message: "This exam is currently closed. We do not have a set reopen date. Please check back later."
So, every couple of days since then I've tried at various times throughout the day to see if the exams are open. Nothing. I emailed to find out if they were *ever* going to open again, a complete non-response.
My inclination is that they're not getting enough/any work to justify accepting new applicants, or the whole thing is just a scam.
