Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 132 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Consumers frequently struggled to reach customer support, facing long phone wait times, unhelpful automated systems, and being passed around endlessly without receiving real help. Reviewers also mentioned frustrating difficulties with blocked payments, unexpectedly locked accounts, and overly strict verification procedures that made simple banking tasks exhausting. Though some customers encountered major issues, a small group of people were satisfied with dedicated staff members who provided friendly assistance. These reviewers praised helpful local branch employees who went out of their way to successfully resolve complex banking and card problems.

Very disappointing experience with…

Very disappointing experience with Westpac
I have been extremely disappointed with Westpac’s handling of my recent refinancing.
On the very same day I refinanced away from Westpac, the bank charged me a $395 mortgage package fee, despite the fact that Westpac knew I was refinancing and would no longer be receiving the benefits of the package. Charging this fee on the day of settlement feels completely unreasonable and shows a lack of consideration for the circumstances.
Even more concerning, I am also currently trying to resolve an issue with missing funds from my account. An amount of approximately $4,118 was deducted on settlement, despite me being reassured by the bank beforehand that no mortgage repayment would be deducted. The money does not appear to have been credited to the relevant home loan account and is not showing in the transactions. At this stage, it appears the funds have simply disappeared.
The combination of an unexpected $395 fee and missing thousands of dollars has left me with very little confidence in Westpac’s processes or customer service.
I would strongly recommend checking all transactions and fees carefully if you are refinancing away from Westpac.

Worst bank I've ever dealt with

Absolute worst customer service of any bank I've ever dealt with.
Refuse to answer questions in writing when requested. Wouldn't allow me to record an online meeting, even though they allow themselves to record them. Clearly these two issues are because they know they'll be caught out giving incorrect information. They gave me incorrect information about an important matter I asked about in an online meeting. I didn't trust what the employee had said and when I investigated their website to verify what they had told me I found that yes, they were in fact wrong. It took 1.5 hours in an online video meeting to set up one joint bank account for a SMSF.
They have previously also given incorrect information to my elderly parents.
Steer clear of Westpac for anything related to SMSF's and for anything else for that matter.
Incompetent, arrogant and condescending staff and appallingly inefficient systems.

The worst customer service I have ever…

The worst customer service I have ever experienced. After having my accounts restricted because I couldn't verify my personal details I decided to cancel my accounts and go elsewhere. I visited the bank today to cancel my accounts and was just asked if I was happy to take the cash, no questions asked as to why after 40 plus years I was leaving. Absolutely appalling.

Shocked at how seriously bereft of any…

Shocked at how seriously bereft of any desire to do ANYTHING to help customers, Westpac has definitely hit rock bottom these days and are not only useless but nasty.
Rude, disinterested staff who smirk at customers, delighted they’re going to do zero to help them. The staff do as little as possible so they can get to the end of their day and customers are just an annoying impediment to knocking off from said day.
Aspley didn’t open their door until almost 9.40 then rudely argued with complaining customers that THEIR clock said 9.30. A regular customer there said this happens all the time.

What a shame to see an organisation like Westpac run at Aspley by a trio that make Moe, Larry and Curly look like top customer service personnel.

Pathetic.

Westpac is run by staffed by uncaring people. Want a loan, to deposit save money dont go to westpac. As a merchant running a small business I used their onlie merchant facility as its mobile. Good I thought. It gets closed with no warning and then wait to hear a solution I have to identify myself 3 times over and after 40 minutes when I complain their stupid staff Sonia says I am hanging up as I dont like they way I am been spoken to. Im trying to hive feedback so as to improve your services you fool. She hangs up. Now trying again to get my services back on line, Oh they but they know my time is valuable.....

Westpac have now got absolutely zero…

Westpac have now got absolutely zero customer service. My credit card stopped working and I tried chat, and going to a branch. I had to wait over 30 minutes for a simple chat, and the person at the branch was too busy to help me. It is ridiculous. Senior management needs to go, They are trying to rely on an AI system that does not work.

I have never had an issue with Westpac until now - as have just realized I can no longer get hold of a human to speak on the phone. But it is not about that - it is about getting onto their message system. Their automatied message hangs up on me. It sends me a link. I cannot use my laptop to type to them even - it says to use the app on my phone. Typing into a chat box on my phone takes longer. The app on my phone says I need to log on. This is after I have logged on. I also rang my local branch to get an answerphone. The second time I tried it hung up. This is at 9.30am. I couldn't make a payment to a company of about 4000 from my account. Therefore I had to ring the company and they had to take my card details over the phone to counteract that. A few problems there - they definitely do not make it easy anymore.

Wow can see customers dissatisfaction…

Wow can see customers dissatisfaction is very high.
Super low Star rating on trust pilot.

Well I would call them worstpac they used to be an amazing bank put customers first
But last 9 months all I have had is harassment from them.
They would even lie to me when I called them.
Very smooth lying staff too you wouldn't even pick it till something doesn't add up.
It's not enough to have a disability to deal with have to have a bank acting like scum treating me terrible I think I have Been with them over Two decades they are not Loyal to there customers anymore.
And I'm My opinion they Run covertly racist banking policies seems they don't like black people.
I don't know who the current CEO is but I do no since they want to close out My account I have no reason to trust Westpac anymore..
They have completely failed in banking standards in My personal opinion.
I once suggested a family member open an account with them..
But now if anybody asked me I would definitely say do bank with Westpac.
I also figured out that they gave my information to another bank unlawfully only because the other bank actually contacted me
Would suggest that Albo has also had a hand in the decline of customer service.
New baking laws don't necessarily mean Better ones.
You will also see rams home loans is on the base of their letter despite them moving to sell it so it would appear they have misrepresented the services that they actually provide.

If your with Westpac perhaps consider finding a better bank that doesn't have covert racist banking policies

I have had a problem with their customer service and distribution practices.

I have had a problem with their customer service from day one, not impressed. They rush you, they answer the phone like "Can I help you?" No greeting or politeness. I know the rest of the world doesn't always operate with care and compassion but America used to, at least.
I called the same week I had the distribution request form arrive and sent out, I simply wanted to check if there was tracking. They informed me that I didn't pay for expedited mail and tracking, when that was never offered to me, and they told me to call back in one week, a Thursday, if it hadn't arrived.
I proceeded to do so, waiting an extra day even and calling on Friday, and left a voicemail as they must have closed before 5 pm as it was 4:08 pm when I called.
This is Monday now, and I received no call back and they have been open for 3 hours now. Same deal, very straight forward and rude call answering, and now I've been asked to call back in another week if it hasn't arrived.
I wouldn't even mind all the waiting if they just had someone on the other end not sounding so passive-aggressive.
Any American companies, listen up, because this is what will stop a lot of people continuing business with you.

New customer online account locked out with hours spent waiting for help...

I am a new Westpac customer & recently I received an email stating that my online account has been locked out until I call their Fraud unit to clarify suspicious online transactions. I have spent well over 2 hours today and have been redirected twice by what seems like foreign call centres. 2.5hrs later and I am still listening to their poor quality call waiting music with regular "automated" apologies for the really long wait. I have never had this problem with any other bank in Australia. At best their call centres sound like scam call centres based on previous scam call experiences. This is shocking Westpac, you have lost my trust.

Probably the worst experience that I've…

Probably the worst experience that I've had in 20 years incompetent staff members after ringing up 20 times sending a numerous emails speaking to at lest 10 staff members reporting they looked into my account saying that I've been scammed by eBay then saying I haven't then saying there was no complaint put in after speaking hours on the phone with different people it's been probably the worst experience it's caused me so much stress and over 2 months sending me emails that they want more information when I've already sent all the information to them quite disgraceful for such a big company

NO CONCERN FOR CUSTOMERS

FIRST OF ALL I WANT TO SAY IT IS NOT THE BANK TELLER'S FAULT, BUT THE WAIT TIME IN ALBURY WESTPAC BANK IS DISGRACEFUL, I WAS NUMBER SIX IN THE QUEUE, AND 40 MINUTES LATER I WAS SERVED, THIS IS JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH , MY TIME IS PRECIOUS TO ME AND 40 MINUTES WASTED CANNOT BE RETRIEVED, I VISIT SEVERAL BANKS AND THIS IS BY FAR THE WORST.
WESTPAC , TIME TO GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER AND THINK ABOUT YOUR CUSTOMERS, OTHERWISE YOU WILL LOSE THEM

Westpac sadly going downhill

Been with Westpac for 40 years and over the last week have received the worst experience. Firstly, a video appointment with a Lending Specialist, and they did not even turn up despite sending me numerous notifications. No apology, and only when I contacted them did they acknowledge it. Then today my Mastercard was locked Waited 10 minutes on the phone to talk to them and then another 20 minutes on hold. They said it is blocked for identification reasons - that they did not tell us about. Time to move on.

If possible - minus five stars

If zero stars were possible this bank would be given five zeros. Locked accounts, blocked payments, exceptionally short time-lined snail mail demands (while we were overseas) for more info when - as far as I'm aware - it had been provided, some of it twice. Heavy handed, bullying approach to enforce compliance with (according to westpac) legislation. Extended wait times when calling customer service.
