I placed my first order with Riverford and increased my basket value specifically to receive their promotional “free” chopping board. The board I received was nothing like the photos — large yellow resin‑like stains on both sides, shiny patches that won’t absorb oil, and overall a piece that looks like it would never be sold at full price.

I contacted customer service twice and waited five days for each reply. Both responses were dismissive, repeatedly asking for photos even after I explained that the issue is clearly visible in person but not on camera. They insisted that because the item was a “free gift”, they would not offer any goodwill credit, and kept pointing to “natural variations” rather than acknowledging the poor quality.

The whole experience felt like being fobbed off rather than listened to. Instead of resolving a simple issue, Riverford placed obstacles, delays, and excuses. As a new customer hoping to support a community‑focused farm, this was extremely disappointing. I will delete my account and won’t be ordering again.

I originally joined Riverford because it seemed like a convenient way to get ethically sourced, hard-to-find organic vegetables delivered straight to my door.
Unfortunately, my very first order was a huge letdown. I had items missing, and the quality of some vegetables was incredibly poor. After just 5 to 6 days, the potatoes had gone completely soft and turned to mush when touched, while the onions had already developed mould spores.
When I signed up at one of their promotional stands in a mall, the salesperson specifically told me that the produce is harvested just 2 to 3 days before delivery. They assured me that because it’s so fresh, I could expect items to last much longer than usual—up to two weeks. Clearly, this wasn't the case with my first box.
I called customer service to resolve the issue, but the representative was quite impolite and tried to shift the blame onto me. When I mentioned the lifespan promises made by their mall rep, she bluntly stated that Riverford "does not advertise any timings for how long products will last," which completely contradicts the sales pitch I was given. I did eventually get account credit for the bad items, but I never received an apology.
To be fair, all of my subsequent deliveries have been lovely and the products have been great. However, the initial customer service experience and the misleading sales tactics left a sour taste.

We order from Riverford—mainly sweet potatoes, fruit, and bread—and are very pleased with the service. The delivery is always early and prompt. I love that they use paper bags for the packaging, but what really impressed me is that the driver goes the extra mile to cover the food with a plastic sheet. This completely protects our delivery from the local cats before I wake up to bring it inside! Highly recommended for both the quality and the thoughtful service.

We particularly love their organic Murasaki sweet potatoes. It is currently the only place I can reliably find this variety, and the taste is exactly like the authentic sweet potatoes I've had in Japan. They also stock the vibrant all-purple ones, though they are currently out of stock - we can't wait for them to come back! Highly recommend Riverford for both their exceptional produce and their thoughtful, caring service.

I have used River ford a few times now, the website is easy to navigate, lots of choice, the food comes packaged in fully recyclable boxes which you leave out when you're next delivery is due, most importantly is that all the produce taste so much better than what you get at the supermarket, which I'd like to think means my body is receiving no nasty chemicals, but all the essential nutrients I need

I have found Riverford produce on the whole to be good. They give you plenty of storing, preparing and cooking tips, not to mention plenty of excellent recipes. Contact service is easy, friendly and hassle free. I highly recommend this company.
