I rented a van from Dollar through VIPCARS.Com
I rented a van through VIPCARS.Com. The day before I picked up the van, I called Dollar to see if it was possible to pick up the van a day earlier.
The customer service representative, took my reservation number and confirmed my reservation. I asked him if it would be possible to pick up the van earlier and how much it would cost. He put me on hold. He came back to tell me there were no vans available. So I told him I’d keep my existing reservation. He then told me that he canceled it. I told him that I DID NOT CANCEL NOR AUTHORIZE….ANYTHING. He told me that the existing reservation was already canceled and he couldn’t do anything about it except to offer me the same for over double the cost!
He was then very unprofessional and was argumentative and demeaning, spelling words to me like I didn’t already understand him. “Your reservation is C-A-N-C-E-L-E-D!” He was so rude!
Want fall on this trick again. I feel scammed
The car was new and in good condition, but the service wasn’t great: the guy at the desk was rather rude.
What really shocked me, though, was the pricing policy. We ended up paying more than double the price shown at booking. The toll fees make no sense: $15 fee per toll on top of the cost of the tolls themselves. They push their unlimited toll pass at about $33 a day, even if you don’t really need it.
Overall it would be a 3-star experience, but I don’t tolerate this kind of business model, which I consider sneaky and unethical. It’s also unfair competition against more transparent companies: Dollar’s prices look much lower on screen, only for you to find out they aren’t lower at all.
I won’t be renting with Dollar again.
Never again
1. Rude counter service. Clearly was inconveniencing the agent.
2. Vehicle was absolutely unsafe and not road worthy. Tires were bald and had major damage/gashes. Vehicle has 45,000 miles.
3. Called for an exchange and spoke with Dollar Customer Service (Julian) who was helpful and understanding. We were instructed to call roadside or take it to the closest Dollar - which we did - for a free exchange.
4. We received GREAT service from Hertz (associated with Dollar) during exchange but was put on phone with Dollar at PDX Airport where we originally rented from and they said they "might" charge me an "exchange fee". A possible fee...after giving me an unsafe vehicle AND being told by customer service to exchange the vehicle for at no cost to me.
Never again, Dollar PDX.
I should have checked reviews
I should have checked reviews before renting through Dollar. We rented through a third party with a no worry policy. Meaning it had all insurances included. At the counter I was told the LIS insurance was not included and mandatory. I wouldn't get the car without it even though we showed the employee our voucher which stated LIS was already paid for. As it was 8 pm, we didn't have another choice to pay the amount.
No helpful advice. Just want to increase charges.
We wanted a SatNav as we were driving to N Carolina. The staff told us it would cost $50/day for 15 days. We weren't sure which were the Toll roads on our journey and the staff member couldn't offer advice - other than to charge us $23/day for automatic toll payment. We declined both offers, and managed with Google maps. They clearly just want to charge as much as possible. Not interested in helping customers.
Dollar car hire Maui - chose a different company if you want a decent service
Rented a car with Dollar on the islands of Kauai, Maui and Big Island in Hawaii. We had no problem with the first and last car hire and would give them 5 stars but Maui Dollar Rent A Car is a disaster.
We had a rental voucher from Trip.Com for all 3 islands and we were charged the amount on the rental voucher in both Kauai and Big Island. Instead of charging us $196 in Maui, they wanted to charge us over $500. The assistant at pick up agreed that the lower figure was correct and manually prepared the docs rather than use the incorrect version shown online. Car was fine. We received an invoice to show the higher amount was charged. When I queried this as we dropped off the car, I was told that Trip.com hadn't paid the bill so I had to. Trip.com have since contacted Dollar who have agreed to repay most of the money as this was their error but they are now saying that part of the increased bill was because we had booked a compact SUV but upgraded to a mid-size at time of pick up. We did not do this. Car was no different to those on the other 2 islands which were compact SUV's and perfectly fine for our needs. Trip.com are now returning to Dollar to request full repayment of the overcharge. How can Dollar car rental at the airport in Maui be so incompetent. Is there no training?
Absolute nightmare with Dollar Rental…
Absolute nightmare with Dollar Rental Company in Las Vegas. We reserved a 12-passenger van to fit 7 people, 5 large suitcases, and 7 backpacks, but they did not have it. Instead, they gave us a 15-passenger van with zero luggage space, forcing my daughter to climb over seats and hand large bags over the back.
Four days later, the van broke down on the side of the road. We added water to limp 5 miles to our destination, but Dollar’s roadside assistance was a disaster. They loaded our van onto a tow truck and told us to ride 2 hours to an airport for a replacement, only for the airport to call mid-trip to say they had no vehicles. Dollar then wanted to send a different tow truck from 4 hours away to pick someone up for an 8-hour round trip.
To save our vacation, the tow driver found us a local rental agency where we had to out-of-pocket rent two vehicles. Dollar never returned a single call, despite us logging over 7 hours on the phone trying to reach them. Three days later, they sent a cab to take us 2 hours to get another car, but they couldn't even pay the cab company for over 24 hours.
When I requested reimbursement for the two emergency vehicles we had to rent, Dollar offered an insulting $25. What a joke. I am still waiting on a call back. Never again will I rent from Dollar or Hertz.
Terrible
Terrible. At the counter for over 30 minutes, didn’t have a car or size we had already paid for. Said we either had to get a smaller one that my husband wouldn’t fit in or pay an extra $90 for an upgrade. Will never ever rent through dollar again.

I had a very disappointing experience…
I had a very disappointing experience renting a car. When I arrived to pick up the vehicle, I was told that I needed to make another payment. I paid as instructed, only to discover that I had been charged twice. Despite explaining the situation, the company refused to refund the duplicate payment. This is unacceptable customer service. Customers should not have to pay twice for the same rental due to an error, nor should they have to fight to get their money back. I am extremely disappointed with how this situation was handled and would not recommend this company based on my experience. DTW AIRPORT WILL NEVER RECCOMEND.
Scammed...…
Booked a Ford Expedition or similar with VIP Cars. Unknown to us this had been refused by Dollar even though advertised as such and were offered a Santa Fe which was too small. Neither VIP or Dollar informed us of the change prior to arriving. After a 9½ hour flight and 2 hours waiting we were forced to pay and additional $798 to upgrade to a Suburban as there were no Ford Expedition or similar available. VIP have washed their hands of it as they claim only to have been the Broker and Dollar have only refunded me $375 of the $798 additional costs. I have raised a complaint with Dollar and await the outcome before taking it further
Recently rented a car through Zest and Dollar
Recently rented a car through Zest and paid for extra insurance then went to Dollar Faro airport and they tried to pressurise me into buying their insurance I declined and she/they said if i damaged the car I would be liable for 2,300 Euro, also Zest specified I need to pay a deposit of 900 Euros, Dollar charged 1,100 Euros. I walked out out of Dollar without a vehicle. The worse customer service I have ever had got my money back from Zest, what an awful experience. BEWARE OF DOLLAR AND INSURANCE THERY ARE AFTER YOUR MONEY!!!
Dollar never replied
Dollar never replied. Don’t use them
ubject: RE: It's almost time to go. L5814805539
I made this reservation months ahead. When we got to the Dollar counter, there were NO vehicles of any kind available including mine. There were 4 of us headed to Quemado New Mexico to elk hunt. That’s a 2 ½ hour drive one way. I had to hire an Uber for $570. I also had to pay $200 for a ride back. I want my money back. ALL OF IT!!!!. Shame on you and you company. Never have I been treated with such distain.

**Extremely Disappointing Service from…
**Extremely Disappointing Service from Dollar Car Rental**
I am extremely disappointed with the service provided by Dollar Car Rental. A replacement vehicle was arranged through my motor insurance provider, United Fidelity Insurance, following an accident. Your representative, Ms. Triman, specifically confirmed delivery at 10:00 AM at Motorworld, Ajman, with a clear assurance that it would arrive no later than 10:30 AM.
Trusting this commitment, I took half a day off from work and handed over my car to the garage for repairs. However, the replacement vehicle never arrived, and there was absolutely no communication or explanation. The representative's phone was switched off, and my repeated WhatsApp messages and calls went unanswered.
After waiting for over an hour, I was forced to ask the garage to return my partially repaired vehicle because I could not remain stranded without transportation.
This is completely unacceptable and reflects a serious lack of professionalism, customer service, and accountability. Customers should not have to lose working hours and disrupt their plans because a company fails to honor a confirmed commitment.
I expect Dollar Car Rental and United Fidelity Insurance to take responsibility, provide a proper explanation, and address the compensation for the half-day leave I lost due to this failure.
**I am posting this review to bring this matter to management's attention and expect a prompt and satisfactory resolution.** I would strongly advise management to improve customer communication and ensure that confirmed commitments are honored.
There was a 1 hour delay to get the car
There was a 1hour delay to get the car. Then they did not have the one reserved and gave me a smaller car which was awful.
The car return is in the middle of Queens in a residential area miles form the airport and is not signed so it is impossible to find. I was at the building 3 times and unable to find the return which is around the back of the bulding unsigned.
You office in dtw they dont honor third…
You office in dtw they dont honor third party reservation they asked for 200$ deposit I agree then they went up to 500$ the same no problem then they dont have a car they have mini var but for 89$ more a day the can give me a car then another charge of 50$ for insurance its a high way robbery in dollar rental at dtw location
Appalling service - avoid at all costs
Had a car for two months which wouldn't start on two occasions and to compound matters their roadside assist was appalling. Took over an hour both times to get someone to respond. Avoid at all costs.
I had a wonderful experience with the…
I had a wonderful experience with the customer service agent Steve at the Dollar Car Rental at
Hartsfield-Jackson airport on Labor Day weekend.
As busy as it was, he was friendly, professional, patient, and very helpful throughout the entire process. His positive attitude and willingness to assist made my rental experience smooth and stress-free. Which was a totally different experience from the horrific experience I had with your partner company Hertz’s customer agent July 4th weekend. It’s always refreshing to receive such great customer service. Steve thank you for going above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of. Your excellent service is truly appreciated! I would definitely recommend you and Dollar Car Rental to others. You should be used as an example for your Hertz counterparts. You are the best Steve!!!
Do not use this company out of…
Do not use this company out of Inverness. They charge for everything on return....you cannot fill the car with fuel locally as the garage is under repair. You therefore have to use one in Inverness. This means by the time you get to the airport they deem the car not returned full. How else can you return full.....use a jerry can?? Deliberately looking to charge for damage on return. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
