UPDATE BELOW - Very friendly service, but crucial damage history overlooked (and extra costs for me)

I was spoken to very kindly by the employees of DASimport, but unfortunately, I was left with a great sense of disappointment.

The car in question (a BMW) was offered on the website of a seller as damage-free. In the final quote from DASimport, this was nuanced to "no significant damage," with the statement that only the bumper had been replaced. To have extra certainty, I had an independent pre-purchase inspection carried out through them. The inspection report was crystal clear: "No prior damage found. Paint thickness measurement within tolerances of original paint. No indications of repaired accident damage or repainting. No existing accident damage found." Completely reassured, I was about to sign the purchase contract. Fortunately, I requested a CARFAX report myself at the very last moment. To my great shock, two substantial damages in Germany came to light: one of €1,000 - €2,000 on the left front (October 2022) and substantial damage of €6,000 - €7,000 in January 2025.

That the seller conceals this is one thing, but that a paid, independent inspection via DAS-import completely misses damage of this magnitude (with such repair costs) is, in my opinion, incomprehensible. As a result, I naturally had to cancel the purchase.

When I expressed my disappointment and asked to have the costs of this (in hindsight worthless) inspection refunded, this was unfortunately refused. The friendliness on the phone was pleasant, but the background checks failed seriously here and cost me unnecessary money. So pay close attention and always check the history yourself!

UPDATE 17-06-2026
Updated Review (following DASimport's response):
After my initial review, the seller (DASimport) responded thoroughly. They acknowledged that I was justified in feeling disappointed about how the damage history was communicated, but they clarified that the front bumper replacement had actually been disclosed before purchase—they described it as "no significant damage," a phrasing I interpreted differently.

Key points from their response:

* The CARFAX damage history contains estimates, not verified repair invoices.
* The independent inspection focused on the car’s current technical condition; paint thickness measurements showed no signs of structural repair.
* The front bumper had been professionally repaired or even replaced by a BMW dealer, which may have made it undetectable during the standard inspection.
* They admitted there were internal shortcomings in how they handled follow-up questions regarding the vehicle’s history.

As a gesture of goodwill, they have fully agreed to reimburse the cost of the pre-purchase inspection.
While I still question whether all relevant information was shared in time and with sufficient clarity, I do appreciate their transparency and willingness to compensate.

For future buyers: be aware that damage history often requires careful interpretation, and always seek clear answers before proceeding.

Reply from Das Import

Dear Mr. Hamelink,

Thank you again for your review and for the constructive conversation earlier this week.

First and foremost, we would like to emphasize that we attach great importance to transparency and to communicating information as accurately as possible based on what is known at the time. In this case, it was communicated in advance that the front bumper had been repaired/replaced, and that the vehicle had no significant damage in its current condition, which was confirmed by the independent pre-purchase inspection.

We understand that the inspection report gave you confidence, and that the additional CARFAX information at the last moment led to doubt and disappointment.

For clarification: the damage amounts shown in CARFAX are system-generated estimates and not based on verified repair invoices. In our experience, these figures can be indicative but are not always complete or fully accurate. The inspection focuses on the current technical and visual condition of the vehicle. In this case, paint thickness measurements showed no indications of structural repairs. A professionally repaired or replaced bumper—especially by an official BMW dealer—may not be detectable during such an inspection.

We do acknowledge that we could have handled follow-up questions regarding the vehicle’s history more thoroughly. We take this feedback seriously and will use it to improve our processes.

Based on all available information and the inspection results, we do not see a substantive reason to doubt the quality of this vehicle. However, we fully respect that trust is decisive in a purchase decision and understand your choice not to proceed.

As discussed, we have reimbursed the full cost of the pre-purchase inspection as a gesture of goodwill. We hope this demonstrates that we take your concerns seriously, even where our interpretation differs.

Kind regards,
Team Das Import

Geachte heer Hamelink,

Team Das Import
