WHMCS is truly a fantastic platform

WHMCS is truly a fantastic platform. Powerful, reliable, and essential for managing hosting businesses efficiently. However, I’m not very happy with the constant license price increases. These ongoing changes make users start looking at competitors as a simpler and more affordable alternative. I hope WHMCS reconsiders its pricing strategy in the future, because the product itself really deserves all the success.

WHMCS are the worst.

WHMCS are the worst.

Their teams don't comply with a legal request for data, known in the UK as a subject access request.

A SAR can be requested in anyway that they can be contacted. Instead WHMCS demand you follow a set process, which isn't required by the rules.

This is interesting as they're a UK registered company, with complete disregard for UK laws.

Instead of answering why, when provided proof from the ICO of their responsibilities, they just ignored and closed the request.

A complaint with the ICO has been raised today, hopefully meaing they comply with their legal obligations.

---

Them as a company, they go back on purchase agreements of Owned life time licences because their owners got greedy.

Now they can regularly peer in to your data to see "usage" but you have to trust what they see isn't sensitive - something you cannot because the code is encoded.

Given both WHMCS and their sister brand cPanel was compromised in different ways in the past, leading to a massive data disclosure, can you really trust them to keep such data secure.

Long-time user deeply disappointed

I’ve used WHMCS for over 10 years. It used to be a great product, stable, reliable, and decent support. Since the acquisition, the quality has steadily declined while prices have shot up. Bugs have gone unresolved for years, including one I personally reported multiple times. Instead of fixing existing issues, they add, IMO, useless new features.

Support is unhelpful, with canned responses. Like others, I paid for a lifetime license that was stripped away when they moved everyone to a subscription model.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I’ve had enough. The product no longer meets the standards expected of a paid service.

Hi Melissa,
We've checked our records but could not locate an account or log of your contacting our team based on the information in this review. Please do respond via Trustpilot with your Support Ticket ID or License information so that we can review your feedback in context.

We do review and fully investigate every single bug report and provide individual acknowledgment if an issue is confirmed. Our team will then prioritise each confirmed issue based on a number of factors such as number of user affected and the impact on each of them.

We've found that some users prefer a focus on new features whilst other users prefer a focus on maintenance, so we try and find a balance in the middle. There's a famous quote; "A good compromise is when both parties are dissatisfied".

Please rest assured that you can continue to use the version of the WHMCS software purchased with your Owned license plus any subsequent updates purchased thereafter indefinitely, as we have honoured all Support & Update packages to their conclusion. Software maintenance and security updates are provided in line with our published Long Term Support policy: https://docs.whmcs.com/Long_Term_Support

We transitioned to a monthly pricing model in 2016 and if you wish to update to benefit from the latest updates and new features, it would be necessary to migrate to monthly billing, so that all users are paying the same amount for the same product and 24x7 service. We're pleased to have had you as a customer from the early days and so have a generous discount available to make the switch.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch with our Customer Service team if we can clarify anything further: https://www.whmcs.com/submit-a-ticket/

WHMCS offers outstanding customer…

WHMCS offers outstanding customer support—quick, responsive, and always ready to help with any issue. For more complex tasks, they also provide optional paid services, which can be a great help. While the platform itself can be challenging to navigate and does require a good deal of technical knowledge and setup time, the level of support more than makes up for it. Overall, I’m giving 5 stars thanks to their exceptional service and dedication to their customers.

Good on basics, fails on complex

Good on basics, fails on complex. We have been using WHMCS for a number of years now and have noticed the quality of support drops off a cliff when the questions become more complex. In the beginning you have simple questions, as your business grows you become more sensitive to bugs and issues that you can manage manually when smaller. As you hit more complex issues you usually have to go through 3 iterations of explaining to WHMCS that its not a simple answer, then eventually you get someone who understands the system and you go through another 3 iterations before you get one of two answers: 1) there is no solution; 2) its a bug, we've raised a ticket - and then it never gets fixed. Another problem is they prioritise new features over fixes to existing features, we suspect because the product is now such a patchwork of fudges and fixes they are no longer able to fix one thing without breaking another. We have started building a replacement platform because its got so bad. Its impossible to scale a business using this platform, its a good initial tool, but inadequate as you grow.

In reply to the vendor response below, here are a handful of the more recent issues not resolved to give some examples:
1. No solution provided: No way to accurately reflect Paypal subscriptions on invoices, creating double payment issues
2. No solution provided: Sitejet integration marketed heavily but solution is out of date and doesn't work
3. No solution provided: Render speed on base mobile css exceeds google target which impacts search results
4. Bug - not fixed: namespinner failing for some extensions
5. Bug - not fixed: two-letter domains do not resolve
6. No solution provided: invoice routing
7. No solution provided: WHMCS does not work on standard base Linux installations without also installing cpanel
8. No solution provided: SSL certificates not used within 90 days cannot be used and no refund is given
9. No solution provided: different translations intermittently appearing on a few fields in invoices despite normally appearing correctly
10. Bug - not fixed: EmailForwarding model doesn't display the correct prior data in the "original" array
11. Bug - not fixed: race condition between hosting provisioning and auto configuration of weebly

Hi there,
Thanks for taking the time to write your review. We are always looking for opportunities to improve.

We've found that some users prefer a focus on new features whilst other users prefer a focus on maintenance, so we try and find a balance in the middle. There's a famous quote; "A good compromise is when both parties are dissatisfied".

One of the features we are considering within the next year or so is an update to the Namespinning tool, which may help address some of the edge cases around domain availability checking which you have reported to us recently.

Thanks for your custom, and we look forward to providing your business needs for another 5 years!
