Athlone Ladies Rock

Called into the Athlone branch today for assistance purchasing a new car. Dealt with 2 ladies, Lauren and Elaine and they couldn't have been more helpful and so lovely to deal with. Arranged for the payment to go through straight away so I could collect my car today. Thanks ladies, much appreciated.

Horrific mental torturing

If you want to experience one of the most horrific
frustrating account-opening processes imaginable, try opening a current account with PTSB.
I want to acknowledge that the staff at the branch were genuinely helpful, professional, and did everything they could to assist me. My issue is not with them—it’s with the compliance team and the complete lack of effective communication.
The process involved endless back-and-forth requests, repeated delays, and being told that documents I had already submitted had somehow not been received. Instead of feeling like a valued customer bringing business to the bank, I felt as though I was asking them for a favour.
Had I not already invested so much time into the application, I would have withdrawn it entirely. Looking back, I now understand why so many people warned me that opening an account with PTSB could become a nightmare.
If you value your time, your sanity, and clear communication, I would seriously recommend considering other financial institutions. In my experience, they offer a far smoother and more customer-focused service.
I also can’t ignore the feeling that, based on my personal experience, factors such as who you are and where you come from may influence how you’re treated. I cannot say this with certainty, but that is honestly how the experience made me feel.
This review reflects my own personal experience, but unfortunately, it has left me deeply disappointed, stressed, and unlikely to recommend PTSB to anyone.

Bots 0, Humans 10

Online24 seems to be beset by gremlins for at least two years. Last week it failed to recognise my mother's (correct) password, then locked her out. Exactly the same thing happened to me previously.
Each time we had to physically go to our local branch to have our online portals unlocked and temporary passwords provided. In my case it took several trips as my ATM card had also been blocked.
I also recently received a letter in the post telling me my ATM card was at risk of being deactivated as I hasn't used it for almost 12 months - which was untrue, and I still had the statement I had printed out less than six months ago.
However on each occasion the staff were very helpful. While it's very inconvenient to go to the branch (due to shortage of parking, yobs skateboarding on the footpath, etc), the people at PTSB are great at sorting out tech problems. Special thanks to Jack who helped my very un-tech-savvy mother today.

A service broken from root to branch.

A service broken from root to branch.
They "upgraded" the app and website a few years ago. Completely broke it and it's been broken ever since.
The security is so tight, not even you can get access.
Really obvious broken stuff stays broken.
The website constantly logs you out.
It took about an hour to get bank statements, and only pdfs.
When you ring the phones, it looks me about 15mins asking me security questions, then told me I had to ring back tomorrow.
They are stuck in the 90's...asking you to just "call into the branch"...why dont you fix your website??
You should tell the people running irish banks, they can't continue ripping irish people off, they actually have competition.

Unhelpful Agent

Rang phone helpline to activate new credit card on Friday 12th June, took approx 30 mins to get through, was passed around to different agents. Finally, answered all questions etc, girl told me my card would be activated in 2 hours. Wanted to make sure everything was OK with card today. Tried to purchase an item, unable to do so as my 'card was unsupported' Had to ring helpline again today to be told my card hadn't been activated. Going to Rome tomorrow and picking up rental car. Thankfully I checked today, otherwise would have been a catastrophe at Rome Airport Car Hire

The IT part of this bank is a sad joke but no customer is laughing. First I find out I cannot generate a statement in the app or PC - I have to wait for many days for it to be issued. Then I find out they never heard of Garmin so , payments with an watch will never possible unless you own an Apple product. If you have a choice - go for a bank with proper IT products and support.

Wonderful staff Member.r

I needed to unlock my bank card and was finding great difficulty doing this. I eventually went to a PTSB branch in Grafton St. and they had no success either (blaming the internet). The following day I again tried in a different branch, Baggott St. There they too were finding it difficult and left me to my own device in a chair outside the offices after trying for about 10 mins. A different staff member happened to pass me by and seen I was having problems. She brought me into her office and spent almost an hour trying to sort it out...eventually she succeeded. I will forever be very gratefull to her for her patience and willingness to spend the time with me. I am 76 and losing the "touch" with banking.
Her name is BEATRICE..all the way from Brazil.
God Bless you Beatrice and thank you once again.

appalling Service

Permanent TSB keeps advertising their “upgraded services” and “new app features” — but for the past few days I can’t even make a simple bank transfer! Every time I try to enter an amount, I get an error message saying “amount must be a number.” I’ve tried on the app and on my computer, and nothing works. This is appalling — basic banking shouldn’t be this frustrating!

Avoid the banking app at all costs

Worst Bank App avoid it at all cost.
Was told to download a new version of the app. Did so and work. Month later told to download another new version and again a couple of months later told to download another new version. Put my 24 hour bank details and password and security number and it told me I was locked out because it was an old version of the app. Totally incompetent bank.

Irish Banking at its worst

Banking at its worst. Went here after Ulster Bank shut down. Staff are rude, technology is behind. Branding is awful – boring grey. Time to move on again.

Appalling Customer Service

I have a credit card with the PTSB and rang them on 11/8/25, to ask for a limit increase. I rang them on 25/8/25, as I hadn’t received a response. The employee apologised and advised that my application had ‘slipped through the cracks’. She said I could put in a complaint and I would receive an answer in 48 hours. Again, I didn’t get a response, so I rang back on 28/8/25. This time a different employee stated I would get an answer by 1/9/25. It is now 2/10/25 and I still haven’t had a response. I applied for a credit card with another Bank and was approved within 30 minutes. I am in the process of leaving PTSB. I will not remain with a bank who does not value their customers and provides an inferior service.

If I could I would give PTSB Bank a ZERO. It’s the worst bank I have ever had. I needed to contest a direct debit charge so I went to branch and they said that I would need to call direct through one. It took me nearly one hour answering their security questions for them to say that my information didn’t match to my account. I couldn’t believe that I was liste to this. All the information I gave are genuine. What else they wanted me to say? They are playing with the customers. They left me without solve my problem. I will def move out my account. I’m so stressed and frustrated.

Absolute disgrace

Absolute disgrace, deliberate changes to app to try get people to miss credit card payments. Originally, you were given your balance immediately, then they "upgraded" the app and the balance was no longer visible when you went to pay your bill. Now it's even more hidden and for 1st time ever, I almost missed payment deadline. No doubt in my mind what the motivation was for these changes, banker greed. Well, I've still now look at changing to Revolut for ALL my banking, from receiving salary to DD etc. Complete cowboys
