Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 434 reviews, most reviewers were somewhat happy with their experience overall. People genuinely enjoy attending local group events because the hosts and instructors are consistently friendly, highly professional, and well prepared to help. Consumers truly appreciate the wonderful opportunity to meet new friends, explore shared hobbies, and connect closely with welcoming local communities. However, some customers also noted that the online platform can feel clunky and difficult to navigate, bringing unexpected technical hurdles during login. A few reviewers were not happy with rising subscription costs and excessive fees, explaining that these financial burdens make hosting community events increasingly difficult.

I feel there is not enough community in the United States. Real people interacting with real people, trying to be authentic. Meetup is a good place to start.

Meet up allows people to gather for community which we all seek. However, it is getting too expensive to host a group. It is asking for money just to see who is coming to an event. It blurrs out pi... See more

The Dining Group of Raleigh

I always enjoy events with this group. Robin selects a variety of great restaurants, movies, and other fun activities. She makes everyone feel welcome and takes time to get to know each member and include them in conversations.

Nature hike. Explored a new park in the great outdoors. Welcoming and very informative guide. Definitely Interested in more hikes. Enjoyed nature and the views.

A very nice group with a welcoming leader

I really enjoy the Manchester Swedish Learners Meetup Group (meets via Zoom so available in any location). Andy is a very welcoming and kind host who makes people feel welcome and at ease, regardless of whether they are real beginners, somewhat experienced, or much more experienced. The participants are all different ages, and from various countries, with new people coming along fairly often. If you are shy or very new to Swedish you can just listen in either the beginners or intermediate group.

From my biased perspective

My perspective is biased. For me, Meetup is not just a platform for meeting other people. It sometimes feels almost like a living being, attuned to one’s needs in the moment. Well, I always had a vivid imagination.
But the truth is, the people there are very friendly and open, and there is a lot to choose from. You’d be grateful for some company because you feel a little blue? There is a group playing social games to fill your evening. You want to move from your personal trainer — the couch in the living room — into the real world with a human coach? You find some sports events to choose from. You want to assure yourself that tomorrow you will still have something interesting to look forward to and real people to get to know? Check the events calendar.
I’m not saying Meetup is the answer to all problems, all your moods, or the biggest uncertainties of life (although you will probably find a meeting discussing those as well ;)). Maybe for me it is a good platform right now and in one year it won’t be anymore. Maybe some acquaintances will last years, maybe none. I don’t know. But I wanted to give myself and that vivid imagination of mine a chance to check it out.
And I’m really glad I did it.

Worst app

I used their free subscription and I cancelled 4 working days before the renewal date and they still charged me the subscription fee.
That is seriously unacceptable, and now they are not refunding my money.
Wouldn’t recommend this app to anyone.

This was a well run

This was a well run, very interesting session. Eddy is dynamic and very welcoming. The setting is perfect, as is the size of the crowd. I fully recommend it to anyone who is intellectually curious.

A Wealth of Knots Knowledge

Bonnie was very professional and patient. She was very well prepared and I could tell it was important to her that the class could translate the new knot knowledge into practical use. I learned alot that can be applied to my camping and hiking experiences. The class was really fun.

Intro to Backpacking

This was such a great event! Even as someone who had some previous knowledge of backpacking going in, I still learned some new things. It was also great getting to test out some of the gear that was provided. I’m glad we were able to walk with our packs too, so we could really get a feel for what it’ll be like when we’re ready to actually go backpacking. Definitely gave me the push I needed to get out there and go!

First time is a charm.

Even though it was my first time attending this French meet up, I felt welcomed and included. I like the location and the room in the library was perfect. I look forward to going again.

They collect your email but never respond

So I marked my attendance for this event almost 2 weeks ago. And I registered additionally with my email address. And all I got was an email that says you will get a link. And I never got a link. And neither did they bother to respond when I asked the question online on meetup.
