Order came quickly. The fabrics I ordered were plains and they were stacked to match the invoice of fabrics so I knew what each colour was. That is very helpful.

Another day, another purchase from Morris Works.
A couple of weeks ago, an email landed in my inbox advertising a wooden clapper, which now proudly resides in my sewing room. So far it's proved itself to be an excellent doorstop, a respectable paperweight, and I'm sure, given time, I'll discover at least another dozen uses for it.
I've now become strangely attuned to Morris Works emails, almost developing a sixth sense for when they arrive. Sure enough, on 15th July, one appeared with the fateful words: *"The remnant basket is full again."*
It wouldn't hurt to have a look, would it? I mean... how big can the basket possibly be?
Well.
Somewhere along the line I've transitioned from "I want to sew something, let me find some suitable fabric" to "I want to buy this fabric, now I just need to find something to make with it." That's how I ended up with another two metres from a collection that is still patiently waiting to be introduced to a pattern.
I was discussing what my husband affectionately calls my "too much fabric" problem with a friend. I explained that my usual solution to overflowing fabric was simply to buy more storage. The only snag is that I've now run out of room to put the storage that stores the overflow of fabric. My friend casually suggested, "Have you thought about a storage unit?"
At that moment, all I heard was:
"Abandon hope, all ye who enter here."
To be fair, when the fabric does threaten to overwhelm me, I try to channel my inner Edward Scissorhands. Sadly, instead of creating elaborate topiary and avant-garde hairstyles, I just cut fabric. Edward was considerably more proficient with a pair of scissors than I am with a rotary cutter. My left index finger is now approximately 2 mm thinner than my right.
And whoever coined the phrase, "Blood is thicker than water," had clearly never taken blood-thinning medication.
So yes... thanks, Morris Works. The remnant basket claimed another victim. Although, on the bright side, if you ever start selling extra sewing rooms...

I honestly don't know where to begin! 😂
Firstly, I'm delighted to hear the clapper has already established itself as a multi-purpose household essential. Using it as an actual clapper is clearly just one of its many talents.
Your description of buying fabric first and finding a project afterwards gave me a proper laugh because I think that's a stage many of us quietly reach. Alongside patchwork and quilting, there's another skill that seems to develop over time... the art of creative fabric storage. It usually starts with a basket, progresses to a cabinet, then somehow expands into a dedicated quilt room. Eventually, there comes a point where you simply surrender to the inevitable. In my case, I appear to have progressed straight to a quilt house. So if Morris Works ever did start selling extra sewing rooms, I'm probably living proof that they only delay the inevitable! 😂
Your Edward Scissorhands comparison was brilliant. Thankfully, fabric is considerably more forgiving than topiary, although I suspect Edward would have made an exceptionally accurate quilter. Perfect points, flawless cutting... and probably not a single dulled blade. Sadly, unlike Edward, the rest of us are rather attached to our fingers, so please do look after that left index finger!
