Disappointing service
Disappointing service
My first experience with this company was not exactly "a corker" or maybe it was. The cork on a 15 year old whisky was broken on arrival and crumbled into the bottle. The emailed response was, "We are unable to offer refunds or exchanges for damaged corks...use a strainer". OK, fair enough, but the Consumer Rights Act 2015 states that goods must be of satisfactory quality and so the seller is surely technically in breach of contract. Not according to Lochs of Whisky. So maybe we should all buy from somewhere else where they acknowledge the law and uphold consumer rights and, indeed, have a little more respect and care for their customers. To be fair they did offer me a discount on my next order when I complained about their attitude. However, I won't be taking them up on it after this experience.

As we specialise in older and collectible whiskies, we do state on our website that, due to the varying ages of bottles, corks and their seals, the condition of the liquid is at the buyer's discretion and that we do not offer refunds or exchanges for damaged corks.
However, we fully appreciate how disappointing it must be to receive a bottle with a broken cork, particularly when you have been looking forward to enjoying it.
We are also sorry that you felt our response lacked care and understanding. This is certainly not the level of customer service we aim to provide, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback.
Our intention is never to dismiss a customer's concerns, and we recognise that our response could have been handled more sympathetically. Our policy does not affect your statutory consumer rights.

Corked Whisky
Having found that Lochodwhisky had a bottle of 10 year old Glenkinchie although it was priced at almoest £100 I thought I would treat myself to the this hard to find single malt.
When I opened it the cork had disintegrated and fallen into the whisky! probable due to the bottle not being stored correctly.
The reply from Loch was:
"Our condition statement also explains that we’re unable to offer refunds or exchanges for damaged corks."
Whisky tasting of cork is not accepable!

We're very sorry to hear that the cork had deteriorated and fallen into your whisky. We completely understand your frustration, particularly given the price of the bottle and that you had been looking forward to enjoying this discontinued single malt.
We would like to reassure you that all our whisky bottles are stored correctly in an upright position. However, as we specialise in older and collectable whiskies, the condition of the cork cannot be checked without opening the bottle, and corks can naturally deteriorate over time, even when stored correctly.
This is why we include the following condition statement on our product pages:
"Due to the various ages of bottles, corks and their seals, the condition of liquid is at the buyer's discretion. We will not refund or offer exchanges for damaged corks."
We appreciate that this does not take away from your disappointment, and we're genuinely sorry that your experience was not what you had hoped for.
