First the positives: when I am able to charge, the charging is smooth and fast. The main problems are finding working and available charges: 1) Chargers are not working and non-working chargers d... See more

The app is garbage
The app is garbage, fails frequently upon which you get charged £40 for every time it does.
Customer service non existent.

This company was used to scam money fraudulently from my account. Have reported the incident.
Used the one at Leeds Services
Used the one at Leeds Services. Sadly had no choice as needed a charge. Four attempts were needed before it worked and, you guessed it, that's four 'holding charges' that we now have to wait for...
Very bad experience
Very bad experience, everytime with a charge i need to contact the servicedesk to start, APP doesnt work at all. payment at the machine also.
They charged me sometimes twice or three times and telling me on the phone it will take couple of days to refund it.
The baddest part is somehow i was on station A charging around 13.00pm and somewhere on station B around 13.20pm it charged again and they are not refunding my money.
How can i charge 1 car in 20minutes more than 125kwh.
So they are telling me SORRY we can not give you a refund because they couldnt find any fault and the APP worked perfectly.
Disappointing lack of transparency over pricing changes
I have been an IONITY customer for some time because, as a registered app user, I benefited from the lower charging tariff available through the IONITY app. When I first signed up, this was 71p/kWh, later increasing to 79p/kWh.
On 16 July 2026, I charged at IONITY Cambridge and was billed 85p/kWh. When I queried this, I was initially told that the UK app tariff was "from 79p/kWh", which did not explain why I had been charged 85p/kWh.
After several exchanges with customer support, IONITY explained that it had moved to location-based pricing. Whilst I understand that companies can change their pricing models, my concern is the lack of clear communication to existing customers. The previous nationwide app tariff has effectively been replaced by variable location-based pricing, yet this significant change was not made sufficiently clear.
IONITY states that a mass email was sent to customers in June 2026. However, despite my requests, they have been unable to confirm that I received it or provide a copy of the communication they say was sent.
I also asked IONITY to confirm whether I actually received any saving compared with the standard IONITY Direct price for my charging session at Cambridge and, if so, what that saving was. This simple question has never been answered.
My concern is not that prices have increased. My concern is the lack of transparency around the changes and the difficulty in obtaining clear answers to straightforward questions.
Based on this experience, I have lost confidence in IONITY's pricing transparency and customer communication. As a result, I will be using alternative charging providers where possible in the future.
Absolutely hassle free
Absolutely hassle free.
Just paid the Auth. Charge, use the App, connect, charge, and go.
Having tried a few companies I find ionity to be my personal favourite, easy to use, app no problem.
Ionity won't let you add a bank card without a subscription - what a Con!
Hi Ionity. I got a new bank card. I spend 20 minutes on you (really poor) App - and I have to, because you can't manage to create a website - only to find that I cannot update my card, I have to start a charging session and piss about doing it then!
Why - because you want to con me into making a monthly subscription, which is just gong to add cost to your already, uncompetative rates.
One customer lost - Well Done !!
Just back from a 1000 mile road trip in…
Just back from a 1000 mile road trip in France. Mainly used Ionity for my charging, and subscribed to Ionity Power (free for my first month via Hyundai). Before I left I activated plug and charge on my car, which linked to my subscription. Charged at Dreux, Bourges, Orleans, Paris, and Coquelles. Seamless experience at all chargers, simply plugged in and received power. Speeds at all stations exceeded expectations with regular peaks at over 250 KW, hitting 80% in under 20 mins. A price of 0.29€ KW is very competitive and you'll struggle to find anything cheaper, that matches their reliability and speed.
Confusing experience and high prices
I have only had one experience using an IONITY EV charger (Cambridge services, July 2026), which I found very confusing. The App does not help at all with starting a charging session; there is no information about it and no live progress information if you manage to start a charging session. The screen on the charging units is extremely small and the one I used was dimly lit and south-facing and thus in full glare of the sun, making it very hard to see. There are two different QR codes, with similar names, which is very confusing. I then tried to follow the process but the connection wouldn't work, after they had taken a £40 initial charge. I called the helpline and got through but the person wasn't much help and advised me that the screen was faulty and I should move to another bay, which was a bit of a pain. I did manage to connect in the end, probably took me 10-15 minutes to get it working. Things then went fine and it ran at 100 - 120kW/hours until I was ready to leave. It does feel like I have been charged twice, which a lot of people have already complained about - I am expecting the original charge to be refunded - nothing after 24 hours so far. Self-pay petrol pumps do this instantly, so quite why it takes EV charge points so long is a mystery and needs sorting out.
The cost per kW is also astronomical compared to charging at home or on Tesla machines if you didn't already know - I would expect that the Government will have to intervene in the end and regulate the price.
Top priority for this firm is a large screen on charging units that takes you through some simple steps on how to start a charging session. Not too much to ask is it? The current process is a mess and the App is useless.
Fraud
I had an account paying monthly then one day my details were compromised and there was 50 transactions at a total cost of £2700 and I phoned the number only to be told just send an email we don't deal with that on the phones.
I was and am absolutely fuming, the cheek of it.
Reported to Barclaycard but I will be seeking compensation.
Hold your heads in shame.
Absoute scammers
Absoute scammers. Signed up 5 mins before I thought I would be charging at Brenner. Then got sent away because it was too busy (with no fuether explanation why I couldn't wait). Thankfully I had 40% left and drove past Brenner to Trento. Situation even worse there. The line was super long and would have taken about an hour to charge. Found a different competitior charger in Trento no problem. Wrote to customer service that I would like my monthly fee back, as I did not charge. Customer service was aweful and didn't do refund. Last time I used Ionity. Others better anyway.
2 stars because the chargers work
2 stars because the chargers work. The screen gives lots of information, but not how it's costing you in real time if you pay by card. That's why when I got there there were loads of chargers all empty. Doesn't that tell you something. Rip off merchants. Village Hotel Nottingham.
Ionity failing to honour its 15kWh promotion.
I subscribed to Ionity Power subscription to benefit from their offer of a voucher for 15kWh of free charging, which was meant to be emailed upon subcribing. However the voucher was never emailed. After I complained and sent several emails I was told there had been a system error. I asked them to apply the 15kWh credit as I was going on a 2-day journey and would be charging multiple times. I emphasised the urgency. They did not do so as they had to "investigate". Eventually they applied the credit 3 days after I had subscribed, and after my journey had completed. The credit is now no use to me, and they have refused to apply it against the 177kWh I purchased from them in 3 charging sessions over the two days. Unbelievably unreasonable, and a breach of contract based on the promotion I signed up to.
Disgraceful place
Absoloute shite... took 40.euro and didnt charge my car support told.me they couldn't help refund the money very rude and arrogant staff. Stay away
Charger at Athlone not working
Charger at Athlone not working, but still took €40 deposit. FAQ online indicates it will take a full month for a refund. Shitty service.
Absolutely shocking charger was faulty…
Absolutely shocking charger was faulty took money gave me a little free charge no where near enough to get home would not help any anymore left me stranded with 8 month old baby 70 miles from home stay clear of these chargers
If I could give zero stars I absolutely…
If I could give zero stars I absolutely would. Experienced a failed charging session at IONITY Perth where no charging was delivered, yet I was charged £38.73. Despite reporting the issue to IONITY’s technical support at the time and providing a clear timeline (including evidence that my car was charging elsewhere during the alleged session), support repeatedly relied only on system authorisation records and refused a refund.
Multiple failed attempts resulted in pre‑authorisations, partial refunds were issued, but the remaining charge was still upheld without addressing the core facts. Escalation resulted only in further template responses.
Very disappointing customer service when something goes wrong. I would be extremely cautious relying on IONITY if you expect fair handling of failed charging sessions. I will avoid using IONITY in the future.
Ionity did not accept any of my…
Ionity did not accept any of my creditcards when ordering the charging card and paying monthly fee. Extremely poor explanation of how to pay at charger. 3 different QR codes at one charger. 3 out of 6 stalls at strømstad sweden out of order. Do better!!
Terrible experience – blocked charger, lost money, and impossible cancellation
Yesterday I was traveling from Norway to Sweden and decided to subscribe to IONITY, since the charging price is slightly lower with a subscription.
I stopped at a charging station in Arvidsjaur and started a session. Before charging began, I was required to prepay €50. The charging started, but after only about 5 minutes it suddenly stopped. Worse, the charger locked the plug into my car, leaving me completely stuck and unable to continue my trip.
I called customer support and had to wait around 40 minutes before someone finally answered. They managed to unlock the plug, but the situation only got worse from there.
Out of the €50 I prepaid, only a small amount was actually used. When I asked how I could continue charging using the remaining balance, I was told that I needed to pay another €50 upfront — and that they would “refund it later.” Apparently, there is no other way in their system.
This is completely unacceptable.
I immediately cancelled my subscription, but now it turns out the cancellation process itself is broken. I am forced to send an email and wait up to two weeks for a response, and in the meantime I am still being charged for a service I do not want and cannot trust.
So far, I have not received my money back.
This was one of the worst charging experiences I’ve ever had. Unreliable chargers, locked cables, long support wait times, forced double payments, and a broken cancellation process.
I would strongly advise others to avoid IONITY.
